Key oil figures were distorted by US pressure, says whistleblower

The world is much closer to running out of oil than official estimates admit, according to a whistleblower at the International Energy Agency who claims it has been deliberately underplaying a looming shortage for fear of triggering panic buying.

The senior official claims the US has played an influential role in encouraging the watchdog to underplay the rate of decline from existing oil fields while overplaying the chances of finding new reserves.

The allegations raise serious questions about the accuracy of the organisation's latest World Energy Outlook on oil demand and supply to be published tomorrow – which is used by the British and many other governments to help guide their wider energy and climate change policies.

We are just queuing up the potential disasters lately, aren't we?

Maybe that's why the politicians have all gone mad...

This maybe the case but then again who knows what is the truth here.

You know, within the last week most oil companies have been posting severely reduced profits on against last year.

Next thing you know an IEA whistle blower pops up, shouts that we are well into peek oil and hey presto, the price of oil rises and just wait till the world comes out of recession properly.

I have a friend who works for a massive US energy giant here in the UK, They have the technology to extract more oil from new wells and they even can go back to the old wells and extract more oil which before was not possible.
They also have all the green technology they need and are just waiting on world govt's to say right chaps time to go green.

Peak Oil means Peak Emissions, with Peak Emissions following the same bell curve as Peak Oil (roughly).

If that is true, why have a Climate treaty at the exact time that emissions are peaking? Because the Copenhagen treaty is not centered on tackling emissions. "Greenhouse gas emissions" is just code for Peak Oil amongst world leaders. (Do Kunstler and Ruppert really believe they know something oil exec's, bankers, big industry, and world leaders don't already know? Man, I really laugh at that naivete...)
Cap and trade, emissions "tax", these things are just to disguise the reality of Peak Oil to the masses (in addition to bringing about the more "effecient" global govt). "Why are we getting less oil every year?" "Because we're taxed to death, we can't afford it."

Obviously, they prefer the illusion of control to the fact that they are not in control. But once global population pressures have been "alleviated", they will still retain control.

Here's some breaking news to knock-over that Peak-Oil fantasy wagon...

Today Monday the 14th of December 2009, Exxon Mobile (EOM)

has just bought out XTO 'cross timbers' for +$41 Billion

it seems that the western Pennsylvania field has a proven, recoverable reserve which will provide another 100 years of fuel.


the new technologies are now able to extract natural gas from what was considered dry, barren rocks, not a year ago.


evidently the whistleblower didn't have inside connections to even sniff this Gi-normous deal...

Im glad i dont have a car anymore. Anyway, ive always thought that the notion of "panic buying" is a little bit daft, it'll still run out eventually. What will it do anyway? Let you make those extra trips to the shops that are only 50 meters down the road?
I suppose when oil is gone, coal will come back. And since Britan still has a lot of that to use, we'll find a way. I hope.

We entered the peak oil time frame around 2005. The current worldwide depression has offset the coming disasters a few years.

The new oil findings that people keep talking about are either mostly inaccessible due to environmental reasons, or technologically unfeasible.

People need to get real when thinking that environmentalists are in panic mode for no reason. We're destroying the ecosystem at breathtaking speeds.

It's currently estimated that greater than 30% of the biodiversity on the planet will become extinct by 2100.

We're balancing a tight rope between economic collapse, ecosystem collapse, and standards of living.

The only viable solution I've seen as of yet is oil from algae. If we can mass produce this ASAP, we may prevent the doom and gloom from peak oil.

The other side of the equation is that if we allow alternative sources of energy such as algae oil to overcome our energy crisis, we may collapse the ecosystem from having too many people on this planet for too long of a time period. Did you know that 24% of our carbon emissions come solely from our act of breathing! Yikes!
