WHO: AIDS Leading Cause of Death, Disease in Women

Throughout the world, one in five deaths among women in this age group is linked to unsafe sex, according to the U.N. agency.

With all of the talk of H1N1, a statistic like this may become forgotten. It is pretty mind-boggling the devastating toll that AIDS and STD's are still having around the world, specifically amongst the female population.

The data were included in a report that attempts to highlight the unequal health treatment a female faces from childbirth through infancy and adolescence into maturity and old age.

It is really a sobering reminder that, for all of the advancement of our civilization, that we are still not taking care of our own.
