You sure you was looking in the right place?

If you was looking at where the sound was coming from then the plane was way past you already.

Sure it wasn't behind clouds?

Did you actually see it?

I think she/he means that the noise stopped which led him/her to believe that it disappeared. Am I correct OP?

Whos Murdoch?

Nobody has tried to debunk anything, us "shills" are just asking questions. Besides, as of right now there isn't anything to debunk.

That's my point, I couldn't see it, BUT I heard it for a few seconds, and then THAT went away

Well I got no idea

The reason why i ask if it's windy is the sound can be carried on the wind and if it changes direction, the sound can appear to abruptly stop.

Don't believe a word of it, but its the only one you are offering.

Chad,

I honestly can't say if it was close or far - that is a perceptional ideal. What I can say is THAT I heard it, and that all of a sudden it went away! As You know, the US has a base in Pine Gap, and many here in Canada, this may have been a test flight?

Absolutely correct!! The sound just disappeared! As if it went elsewhere

You possibly heard a fighter.

I imagine you looked at where the sound came from and since you don't here them long it seemed as if it disappeared.

Also if it was a fighter it might have been doing manuevers that required him to turn his lights off and you simply couldn't see him.

Chad, I am well aware of physics 101! Sound Waves descend in cold weather.... It's cold in Canada, so NO reason for the "sound waves" to abruptly rise or "disappear" out the atmosphere!

Maybe OZweatherman can explain. I hope he can.

There is no way that was a fighter! Have you heard an F-16 fly over your head, or way above?? F-15 with twin jets??

Trust me, NOT either!

Depends on how high it is.

But lets say it wasn't a fighter, replace fighter with C130 and the effects are the same.

I worked at an airport as a lineman for 5 years that catered to military and private planes. I know what they sound like.
