news.yahoo.com...

NASA's Mars rover Spirit is suffering a new bout of amnesia, one that comes after months of being stuck in deep Martian sand.

The 6-year-old rover's latest memory lapse occurred Oct. 24 and came more than six months after a series of four other amnesia events earlier this year. During the events, the plucky rover failed to record science observations in the part of its flash computer memory that stores information overnight when other systems are powered down.

Just wanted to point out an obvious FYI if someone already hasn't, Amnesia.... really...

This should be in the space exploration forum, but for what it's worth...the fact that there are a few glitches with the rover is not surprising, and is expected...considering they are still actually up there roving about doing stuff...well over a year longer than expected.

Whats the conspiracy?

the conspiracy is that it keeps magically forgetting things.

but i think it is interesting that it this keeps happening.

at the same time, ive used windows enough to know that computers will do what they want when they want lol

ooooo no. i think you have me all wrong! i do everything i wasnt programmed to do !

like that movie shortcircuit! JOHNNY 5 IS ALIVE!!!!!!

but if the storage is only ram, then it could get accidentally dumped if the voltage wasnt at peak. with all the dust on the solar panels then that could explain something. OR maybe phobos or deimos is creating a kind of eclipse that leaves the rover in the dark, thus lowering power to an unsustainable (for ram anyways) levels?

i doubt the latter, but im sure they have a sensor that would say, "HEY VOLTAGE LOW"

ram is kinda spacey anyways

edit: could aliens be walking around and wiping the memory on purpose? kind of like a MiB memory wiper

Ok, well ah, RAM is Volitile - I think maybe you just need to a insert your floppy in the receiver and you should be fine, if not - you will be after you are all rebooted.

Here quick send this to NASA...

Run msconfig choose startup and close all background apps. Then reboot. Bring up the control panel and uninstall all unneeded programs afterward bring up the browser and then go to tools and disable all third party software then close browser. Go to C drive and dump the contents of their TEMP folder and empty the recycle bin. Followed by running regedit and remove all footprints in the registry. Update all their drivers and firmware. Finally run sysedit to verify

Then do a thorough scan disc and then defrag.

Tell NASA to send the check here to my ATS account.

P.S. If it's MAC based then rebuild their desktop and update their extensions.

Hi, FoxStriker.
Not to discredit you, but we don't need Yahoo to get news from space. B-]

Go get them right from the "producer(s)" ! B-)

Mars Explor Rovers Mission.
marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov...

. . and while you're at it:

CASSINI_SATURN ###*###
saturn.jpl.nasa.gov...

. . and while you're STILL at it:

NASA Phoenix
www.nasa.gov...

This mission is out, but the link could inform new arrivals/readers
of what happened in the recent past, on Mars.

EDIT for little mistakes.

Blue skies.
