Another nail in the coffin of shame for the UK military.

Army halts soldiers’ training to cut costs

The Ministry of Defence has cancelled dozens of army training exercises as it struggles to cut costs.

The savings affect the regular Army as well as the Territorial Army and have forced Britain to withdraw from a major Nato exercise alongside the United States, The Times has learnt.

Fifty-six exercises have been cancelled this year, raising concerns about the readiness of military personnel who are deployed to Afghanistan.

General Sir David Richards, the Chief of the General Staff, admitted that there were long-term risks in scrapping exercises. News of the cuts comes at the end of a year in which more than 100 troops have been killed in Afghanistan, the largest death toll for a generation, and the Government has faced constant criticism that underinvestment is compromising frontline operations.

Another fine example of the UK government putting money before lives.

Why not cut back their training???

They're just SOBs, they truly are!

Yet the government could find £850 billion (or just over 28years of our current defence budget) to bail out their banker friends after their own incompetence.

It is criminal what Brown and his cohorts are doing and they should be brought to justice.

But don't think Cameron would be any different, every Prime Minister since Wilson has driven through defence cuts, even the Right's shining light, Thatcher.

I agree with that wholeheartedly, I hope one day these scum are required to account for their poor running of the British Armed forces in a criminal court.

All the best, kiwifoot!

Our military leaders take their lead from the politicians, who we elect, so what can we expect, if our elected leaders want to wage war on the cheap.

Of course, should we expect more our senior military leaders? Yes, of course we should, as they are employed to ensure that our military can execute on the policy that our elected leaders want to employ, and I would expect them to challenge our leaders if the military are expected to operate with out the full support.

But when was the last time that one of the General Staff resigned because the Government were not prepared to support our military? More interested in the senior military gravy train that making a stand in support of our troops?

What can we do? Hassle all our MPs and make it clear that we expect them to support your troops or start making plans for a new career!
