Here's my opinion on this based upon the information in the following links -

Indonesian Military Strength Statistics

and

Australian Military Strength Statistics

Army

Indonesian Army has a huge number of soldiers.....active, reserve and paramilitary compared to Australia....thats a given looking at the statistics and undisputable.

Navy

Indonesian has twice as many Navy ships as Australia.
Australia has 1 port more than Indonesia
Australia has 6 submarines compared to indonesias two.
Looking at the rest of the Navy statistics even thou Indonesia might be a "tad" more in most areas I think Australia would be a bit better than the Indonesian due to better training, technology.

Air-Force

Australia has 153 more aircraft than Indonesia....for an invasion of Australia they are going to need a hell of a lot more planes than that!

We have 116 more helicopters than them........

Australias Defence Budget is 22 Billion USD, Indonesias is 4.7 Billion USD....that is a HUGE difference....and considering how small in number our forces are you can bet we are developing and using worlds best technology and practice for that sort of coin.

The Indonesians could try and get all their troops here by sea thou very slowly and ineffectively due to the small number of ships they have, the number of troops they would need to bring in all at once and not including logistical facilities to ship over to build forward bases....... they sure as hell couldn't do it by air....

Australia would blast them out of the water with their navy before they could get an effective force on shore....our air force would destroy their planes before they got within striking distance of our shoreline, and our missiles would level any port/airport/base etc as soon as our Xband radar would cop a hint of an inpending attack.....

trust me, Australia would hold its own until backup would get here if it would....Australian in the face of adversity would enlist on masse.

We are not a country that you can just walk into and occupy......America cant do it with Iraq or Afghanaistan even with Nato assitance and to think a country like Indonesia could do it with Australia would be pure fantasy!

You're talking battlefield. Wars don't take place like that anymore. Now it's urban infiltration, suicide bombs at tourist locations, targeted first responders and a warfare that has rules that aren't Roman.

The way Islam is infiltrating every non-muslim country on the planet is by immigration, making babies, cohesive theology, planting sleeper cells, hand to hand financial transactions, weapon smuggling using local coyotes, building mosques as central bases, they are quite organized. The plan to dominate doesn't kick off until 2013... so they still have more time to get supplies and people where they will be put into service, that's within Australia. Too late to halt immigration and send everyone home to have a battlefield war, eh?

If you're talking about the Islamic world vs everyone else, I fear it would go badly for them in a truly global conflict. Surely no-one wants to see that kind of destruction again.

So far it hasn't gone badly for Islam. They've managed to change the election in Madrid, took down 2 giant buildings in NYC, committed over 10000 acts of terrorism since 911 and continue to grow in population at an alarming rate. They are car-b-quing Paris, banning cartoons in Denmark and shooting editors, they are demanding Sharia Law in all non-muslims countries, carrying out massive murder in Africa, killing Christians in Egypt and Iran, and it hasn't even begun.

without doubt Australia could more than likely hold its own, but I do wonder how easy it would be for an enemies first strike to come from within by crippling some of Australia's key defence or infrastructures before an all out attack begins, being such a diverse multi-cultural nation could have a downside on whose side these different nationalities will really be on. I also wonder on whose side the indiginous people of Australia would take to, as being on their community lands could be a dangerous position to be on while a war for this land as a whole takes place.

I think the spirit of the ANZAC and the Aus population taking up arms would hold off an invasion, and could prob over throw but not control for ever the Indonesia.

But that would become so much harder now seeing the Oz f1-11 fleet are being mothballed, the new ?Hornets don't have a large enough flight range to be used for an invasion...Where the indonesia I believe use the mig which has vast air superiority over the interim air fleet Aus has untill the new US fighter is delivered in 2012? And while that is suppose to be better than the mig it is still unproven.

Aus has the advantage of size and distance between major cites and infrastructure, surrounded by water and then guarded by desert.

Motivation that would drive an invasion is much stronger on the Indonesian side.
For instance:
"Egypt (AINA) -- Egyptian security forces have intensified their presence in the Upper Egyptian town of Dairout, in anticipation of a recurrence of Muslim violence against Christians. Copts expressed their fear over leaflets entitled "These have to Die!" which are being distributed to all Muslims in Dairout and neighborhoods, enticing them to "burn, vandalize and clean the country of these evil immoral infidels."

Australia would win IMO. God forbid this war ever happens but:

Australia may have a smaller military, but it does have a lot of civilians that
have a huge advantage over anyone else on earth: They are Australian.

Australia is small and our defence budget has been cut dramatically because of stupid gillard,
we have some of the worlds best trained forces not to mention the tech that we have, yes indo has big numbers and some navy and air force but who really pays for it?? Australia, if it wasnt for us they would be screwd,
even if they did get here we would wait at the bottom of the northern territory with everything, and by that time their numbers would have dropd because the snakes and crocs and aboriginies would have picked em off haha

look what happend in east timor, indonesia started it and we finished it.
