Thats the quite the list you have there alyosha1981. I hardly know where to begin. I will start by saying that I am a cop, and a good one. I have
never beaten anyone. I have been a fight or two, but never used any more force necessary than that required to defend myself and control the
situation. Actually, I have been hurt a couple of times trying not to hurt the other guy.(thanks, you're welcome) I've have had to pull other cops
off of people and that angers me when that happens. Obviously, there are bad cops out there, and even that is an understatement.
I have recovered tens of thousands of dollars in stolen property. The last 3 guns stolen in my area, I have recovered and gotten them off the street.
I have been instrumental in getting drugs, drug dealers, and numerous drunk drivers off the the street. I have gone to countless domestic disturbances
and have racked up many hours of impromptu counseling. I have rescued an infant from the arms of his drunk father and women from the wrath of their
drunk husbands and boyfriends. I've had to hold people down to keep them from hurting someone while I waited for backup to arrive. I've rushed into
homes where people with guns and one with a samurai sword were waiting. I've stopped cars at 2 in the morning on dark roads with tinted windows
having no idea what was on the inside. I've found a sawed off shotgun under the driver's seat of a car I stopped. Wonder who that was meant for?
I've waded alone into street fights by myself to break them up (we are a one horse town with no backup). I have to deal with sexually abused children
and listen to their stories via cctv as a trained nurse pulls their stories from them. I've listened to sex offenders as they have told their stories
and made them sound like legitimate relationships and that the six year old girl "wanted them". I've sat at the hospital waiting on rape kits from
victims. I have sat hours at the hospital with mental committments keeping them calm as they went from one mood and rant and rage to another.
I've had my life and that of my family threatened. I've been spit at, cussed, and critizied and that regardless of what I do. I'm either too easy
or too tough. I am constantly accused of prejudice and bias and again, regardless of what I do.
I could go on and on, but I could also tell of the countless other officers and their selfless acts that I know of. You may be saying that I seem to
be blowing my own horn and you'd be damn right. I promise you, no one else will. Instead, you, the media, and others (not everyone) are too busy
accentuating the negative and eliminating the positive.
What do you and others here do for a living? Any bad eggs in your office, shop, factory, whatever? Of course they are. The difference? They are not
scrutinized on their every move.
The increase in bad officers is in direct correlation to the decrease in the quality of the labor pool that our crumbling society has to offer. The
problem with the young officers coming into service now is that they believe the badge makes the officer instead of the officer making the badge.
It's the strength of character and judgement that gives the badge it's power, not physical strength, contempt, and a cocky attitude.
I'm sick of it,
Seeashrink, aka beebopcop, aka Sergeant
