Does anyone know of any herbal remedies for pneumonia?? With the swine flu scare, about hospital acquired pneumonia, I think we should have a thread for herbal remedies that are proven to help any kind of pneumonia.

Please List Some If You Know Of Any!

Herbal remedies certainly have their time and place, but pneumonia is deadly. I think I would consider the mainstream medical establishment before herbs if I thought I might have pneumonia.

The pneumonia should be treated first. Then, (and this is recommended by pulmonary specialists) take 1,000 vitamin C every day, not the chewable kind it is hard on teeth, 500mg zinc and echinacea probably two pills. This regime will cleanse your respiratory system and make it harder for bronchitis and pneumonia to set in.

I have never gone to ER for anything cold/flu related because the key is to nip it in the bud before it gets too advanced. My son recently had swine flu..very badly, but the hospital was full and would only take new patients if the needed a ventilator or oxygen!
So good ol' mom stepped in with my naturopathic remedies.
*DISCLAIMER- Even though I have studied and practiced these for over a decade, Iam not a doctor. Use at your own risk.

My best remedy is at the first feeling of getting sick...up your vitamin C intake, and make garlic chicken soup. Whatever kind you like, I use just plain Lipton's and add FRESH cut up garlic to it. It works better than anything.

Second..PINEAPPLE.

While many people often take extra vitamin C or drink extra orange juice when they have a cold, few consider eating pineapple. The benefits of pineapple when you have a cold or cough are the same as the benefits of orange juice, but there is an additional benefit of pineapple. Bromelain, which is found in pineapples, has been found to help suppress coughs and loosen mucus.

I use this with great success as well.
There are other remedies like eating spicy food, and Mustard plasters,,(oh the horror) but the old timers swear by them.

Good idea about the pineapple!
The issue I have with garlic is it's pungency irritates my mouth. Any ideas how to counteract that with the raw garlic??

I would caution using any natural rememdy that may increase the likelihood of a cytokine storm.
The following article isn't about h1n1, I think it's about bird flu, but you may want to avoid what's on the AVOID list

I had pneumonia this spring.
I tried to heal myself, but finally had to succumb to antibiotics. I caught it early, but still felt like death warmed over.
Not a disease to take chances with.

Sychronicity....

I just got a pneumonia shot today. Painful bugger. Not as painful as pneumonia; or as dangerous.

It's a shame but antibiotics are the way to go for a bad bacterial infection. I've had some nasty chest colds up to and including pneumonia and would like to mention a few things that helped me.

One is a good old hot shower, the steamier the better. Breath the steam in deep to loosen up the congestion and get it out of there. I've also just put a pot of water with a small handful of hyssop on the stove and breathed that in for awhile. -Be careful to not burn yourself up! lol

And finally, the way a lot of lung trouble starts is with a sinus infection and gravity. Saline spray works wonders and is cheap and decongestants can help but I don't like them.
