ABUSE CRISIS: Jeremy Sivits Pleads Guilty to Abu Ghraib Abuse - Sentenced to One Year

U.S. Army Specialist Jeremy C. Sivits has pled guilty in court martial hearings to three abuse charges which ocurred at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. The court accepted his guilty plea and has found him guilty on all counts. A decision on a fourth charge is pending. He has been sentenced to one year, has been demoted to private and given a discharge on bad conduct.

Sivits pled guilty to maltreatment of detainees, dereliction of duty for failing to protect detainees from abuse, cruelty and maltreatment and maltreating one prisoner by escorting him "to be positioned in a pile on the floor to be assaulted by other soldiers."

Sivits reached a pre-trial agreement to provide information in exchange for a reduction in charges.

Fox News also reported that Sivits pleaded with the judge to allow him to remain in the military, saying he could be a good candidate for telling others what not to do.

I say, fat chance.

I say give give a desk job or even send to the fronline and see how long he last out there!

Is it just me, or is the rest of the world going to think this is too light? Sure it's nice to have someone "turn state's evidence" and testify, but with the photos, how much more do we really need. This whole thing is disgusting!

Too light? This is an outrage, This mans life has been destroyed! Because he did wha he was told.

If he would have spoke out against this he would have been tossed in there with the detanies.

The PEOPLE giving the orders should have there lives taken away, not the followers.

The man wasn't ordered to do anything. In details from the court martial, he was asked if he had the opportunity to walk away and not be involved in the torture. He said "yes" he had a choice. He chose to stay and participate and now he has to face the penalties. I don't think the punishment is too harsh or too light. I am sure his life is ruined and his conscience will continue to punish him long after we lose track of him.

Im sure thats what the details said. I would say that also, if I thought my head would be found in the streets.

Im sorry, I dont see how the uppers could see this going on, and not stop it if it wasnt ordered.

1 year?!? thats outragous...he should be doing 10-25 years for his crimes...

Youll get prison for pot in america but hell.....just torture and humiliate some detainees and hey...no big deal right?

Why would Sivits be in fear of his head being found in the streets? The eyes of the world and public is on him, he is safer now from military retaliation than he was in the past few months leading up to the revelations. I am sure higher uppers knew of the circumstances and allowed them to go on. I still have no proof to suggest that it was actually ordered by any of the higher uppers.

btw, if that was me and I was defending my life and position, and I was "ordered" to do something, be assured, whomever "ordered" me, would have his/her name literally falling out of my mouth in every other sentence. Mr. Sivits, did not make any claims as Ms. England did to suggest he was ordered to do the actions he did.

I mean he did the right thing to cooperate, and it was the right thing to give him the max....but, he got played. Plain and simple.

I saw they're planning a parade for him in his hometown. Guess they have to wait a year. I'm sure he'll have a nice cushy job as a Fox News commentator waiting for him.

I know that area quite well. There are some very strange, backwards thinking people living there. Lynndie England is from W. Va., not far from that area.
