700 arrests across country as FBI rescues children from sex trade

www.guardian.co.uk

The FBI says it rescued 52 children, one just 10 years old, from prostitution rings during nationwide raids that led to nearly 700 arrests. There were arrests in 36 cities after a surveillance operation of children sold for sex on the internet, on streets, in casinos and at truck stops.

Among those detained were 60 pimps, who face lengthy prison sentences for child trafficking. About 1,600 officers were involved in the three day operation.

Child welfare groups estimate that around 2 million children a year run away from home in the US, and that many of them are lured into prostitution or pornography to survive.

The justice department says there is an "epidemic" of commercial sex activity among children living on the streets. It says more than half of street girls are engaged in prostitution, many of them beginning between 12 and 14 years old.

This why I personally think that Porn should be made illegal.

Porn is becoming more and more and more violent as times go by. In fact it's worse than rape, it's rape but in the end, because it's a porn movie, the girl ends up enjoying it.

That will inevitably make people respect women less and less and less and less.

I think that child prostitution is way more common than every one of us here thinks it is.

Sooner or later something will need to be done

And we could even talk about the source of kids running away from home, and again that probably will have to do with music, TV, video games and all that kind of stuff.

As we do to the least of these...
This is a world-wide problem with a lot of protection or uncaring over the situation.
Can we bring back being drawn & quartered (but alive when it is done)?

I get you in the people need more extreme forms of pleasure, if they are over stimulated. I have no idea about the porn, but i assume that rule works for people watching porn too.

Poor kids. Not much more to say really.

The whole media encouraging this sort of this has been around for some time. Even the song “Brown Sugar” by the Rolling Stones promotes the rape of a young slave girl. I would like to blame the media and actually the media out there today might be influencing more than it has in the past, but this sort of thing has been around long before the media we see today.

Rape has been used as a tactic in warfare for centuries. Prostitution and the selling of children into sexual slavery has been around since most likely mankind started to form societies.

This sort of thing has been here for a very long time, but I will agree to a point that the media today seems to be making light of it. I have heard many songs and seen many movies where rape takes place and is seen as an everyday thing.

These people that are trafficking these kids should feel what it is like to lose everything they have. They should feel their very dignity ripped out from under them and feel what it is like to be forcefully penetrated by someone else. The johns who supported this action are no better and should be sought after as well.

As for porn, it is hard to say for sure that some of it may not be real and that some of the people involved might be underage. I highly doubt that all the porn out there is being regulated as it should be. With all the incompetence I see from all the other regulating firms I doubt those in charge of regulating porn are doing their job properly. Yes I will agree that it also degrades women, but a lot of things out there that are seen as rights do the same thing to both men and women.

Make porn illegal and the demand for things like this will only increase.

Think about it. Those who already want the crap will always want the crap, and now the hardcore addicts without their "legal" porn will need something.

That is speaking in the short term...say 20 period. Only in about 30 years would we see positive effects IMO. Regardless of that, my personal belief is that it should be legal anyways.

that's like saying telling kids just to look at pictures of candy will decrease their desire for real candies, as opposed to increasing it.

"lengthy prison sentences"

I don't know what makes me more SICK, the fact that an adult lacks any moral fiber and can do this to a child, or the fact that the people making this kind of prostitution happen will only get "lengthy prison sentences".

I say execute them. Execution for this crime is just and fair, even though it won't be able to undo the damage that these animals have done. Those that can even do this kind of sick thing aren't even people. *spit*

I think this is great to break this ring up. Bravo FBI.

The only thing that bothers me is that these big busts like this I feel are done to attract attention. Obviously they've been working these people for a long time to get all the evidence and what not, but can you imagine having to monitor this situation and letting it happen until the big bust day comes?

Also I've been watching the news for a while now and not a peep on this. I guess they need to save more children before it makes the news.

Here is the original article from the FBI.

but kids (the ones who are raised correctly, at least) do not steal candy from seeing pictures of it. And they especially don't rape candy. as long as the kids are taught not to steal, and the adults were taught that sex with underage girls, rape and prostitution are wrong, they should be able to look at pictures of candy (for kids) and porn (for adults).

Although porn depicting rape, even if it is fake rape, should be banned.

Well it seems they are busting a number of these people every year.

In the thread linked by greeneyedleo the last big bust was nearly a year ago. I also swear I recall reading about another the year before on ATS. Maybe they do a year’s worth of investigation. Though I agree it should not take a year, as that is that much longer the victims must suffer. Maybe it takes a year to get such a massive amount of evidence against these people that they will be put away for life.

I agree though on where is the media coverage for this.

What? The difference is that candy is not visually stimulating, unlike naked girls/guys.

It IS NOT the same thing. Do not even try to use a failed analogy to prove your point.

There is already an illegal sex trade (porno involved). I do not deny that. Making porn illegal will do what to this sex trade? You do realize the videos made from these captive sex slaves are ALREADY illegal?

So why should porn be made illegal, when rape and other actions are already such? If you are suggesting that it will decrease the demand for porn, ultimately decreasing rape/sex rings, you are wrong. All that will happen is that the same people hooked into that sort of thing will continue, and the porn addicts who get their fix through "legal" activities will need a new place to look.

The root of the problem is, like in many cases, bad upbringing, negative environment, and then uneducated people.

Freedom is a double edged sword, so we are to blame the ones RESPONSIBLE, not the so called "influencer" that this world loves to put the burden on.

AND - on top of all of those reasons to leave porn legal, I still believe it is freedom of speech if you want to pose naked so others can see you. Keep in mind, forced pornography/rape/sex rings are illegal, so don't think I encourage such.
