Obama must feel proud, of the great traditions of violence that america has.

Dragging Obama into this discussion is silly at least, mostly illogical and probably simply vile. Not to say it's off-topic.

Oh, I totally agree with you. I'm not condoning their actions in anyway. I was agreeing to the above posters purposed punishment AND THEN let them live with it. - I was actually so angry when I read this that my eyebrow was twitching...

This is a cop out. The opposite could be said, that those who are violent are attracted to video games. I like crazy video games as much as the next person, and I can't kill a spider. There is a huge difference between video and reality. For one, videos have a reset button. And most kids, if they were to wander into the real world of crime, would run screaming home. If they are playing a lot of video games, that is a small symptom of a large problem of parents ignoring them and letting the media babysit.

Then we agree if these things are the things they spend the most time doing then they are contributors to the problem. How they contribute is they tend to act as a means of socializing. If a 12 year old boy spend all his free time playing a video game loaded with realistic imagery where there are sex scenes, drug dealers, prostitutes, carjackers, thieves, and can kill freely in this game without recourse then what kind of socializing is he getting from that game? Yes the parents have to be absent in some capacity for a child to spend all his time in front of a violent game and those who are not absent physically for the greater part of the day can't be too attentive of their child if these are the types of games he's allowed to play.

If you think these areas don't exist you need to quit squeezing the charmin.

No Charmin squeezing here , no I'm trying to inject another perspective. Yes as previously stated there are some rough areas there's no denying this but to make generalized statements to be read as all urban areas being war zones of angry poor people, amoral epicenters, and gangs terrorizing the citizens is stereotypical. I can't deny your experiences but I can draw from my own this is not true from my perspective. My objection was the general painting of all inner cities as a whole being gang ridden.

The majority of these gangs are in inner cities. Are all cities like this? No.

So you do admit there are gangs elsewhere? So shouldn't the focus be on the gangs period instead of giving the false assumption it's a poor problem? If there is a gang of hooligans then it's a problem for the community they exist in but if all is looking at the inner city they overlook the problems in their own backyards.

There are quite a few gangs in well to do communities so it has nothing to do with socio-eco standing and goes right back to home life or the lack of as well as what the child put into their brain on a daily basis.

Does all the violence scare you? Is that why your in denial? No one likes crime or gangs around. But most societies begin and end, or change. ALL have crime, even horrific crimes.

No denials here just pointing out my perspective. Let me put it this way I don't want crime to happen but yet it does. Do I want violence to happen to me, heck no. I don't see it as scared of violence I just don't want it to happen especially to me or my loved ones. There are usually fundamental reasons as to why a society perishes and greed, corruption, and inhumanity are usually the reasons.

No one takes comfort in this crime. But ignoring it won't make it go away. That is why I try to inform people. If you change the socio economic status and clean these areas up, you can make it go away. FBI considers MS-13 a far deadlier threat then terrorists. And because of the current economy, it is increasing instead of the war on gangs decreasing it. And they are winning the war on the borders.

Most normal folks don't but yes there are those who take comfort in participating and or supporting crime which is why this rape happened and people watched and did nothing. No I don't recommend anyone ignore it but if they have children provide your children with your love, quality time, support, discipline (so they understand there are consequences for breaking rules), and parental guidance (laying a foundation for them so they will have the necessary social skills to thrive in this society) that will help slowed down gang growth cause as you said gangs represent a "family" to it's members.

Before proclaiming how scarey society is, realize you are hearing about one event, involving 15 people, out of 360 MILLION in the United States. If it wasn't sensational, it wouldn't be news.

I couldn't handle all the sex and violence on television, so I turned off the news.

George Carlin? Throw in some disinformation and that's the nightly news exactly. The comedian may have been joking but I see a good point to it which why I seldom watch mainstream news but that don't mean I'm unaware of the world I live in.

No, it was hispanics that raped the girl. One of them was 19 and another was 21.

It has not been said what race the girl was, although it doesn't matter really.

Interesting you'd think it had to have been whites that did it though.

news.aol.com...

Three more people have been arrested in connection with the gang rape and beating of a 15-year-old girl outside her high school homecoming dance in an attack that has generated widespread outrage.
A man and two boys were arrested late Tuesday, including 21-year-old Salvador Rodriguez of Richmond, Calif., and two teens, 16 and 17. They were each booked on one count of gang rape and likely face other charges including robbery and kidnapping.
Manuel Ortega, a 19-year-old former student, was arrested after trying to flee the scene. He is being held on $800,000 bail for investigation of rape and robbery. Attempts to reach Ortega at the jail Tuesday were unsuccessful.
A 15-year-old student also was booked late Monday on one count of sexual assault, Gagan said.

It is sad they have only nabbed five at this point. I am sure they will offer a plea deal for some to roll over on others. There should be no plea deal in this they should all face maximum punishment.

I also recently heard on the news that despite some speculation in the thread this did take place on the school campus a half hour after the security (on duty police officers) was sent home. What kind of school that has security sends them home before all the students are gone? That is crazy.

When I was in school teachers (no security) chased the kids off school property after any event was over. They were not allowed to hang out on campus because the school would be held accountable is something happened.

I agree for the most part the parents need to be teaching morals. But I also feel there is simply more to this as well. Schools need to be able to discipline again. This is due mostly because law makers in the past have taken the family values and tossed them aside making it so that the kids are the ones in charge and the parents are nothing more than second class citizens.

I can look at the school I went to, a small country school, and see that they now have police on duty there each day. It is crazy to me the way schools are dealing with things these days. Like when the kids get in trouble for having/using a cell phone and it is taken from them and the parents come to support the kids. Facts are the kid is not supposed to be using the phone to start with. The parents and schools need to work together to make kids realize there are consequences for their actions.

This story is nothing more than the outcome of adults taking the responsibility away from the kids. This is the fault of not only the parents, but the schools and the law makers of days gone by and since. But ultimately I guess the biggest fault lies with the kids themselves for being stupid imbecilic jerk offs (doing my best to be civil) without a care in the world.

It makes me so angry to see that this kind of thing is happening in our country. I fear it is too late and this will be the common happening in the future.

They should offer a plea deal just to make sure they get the names of everyone involved. It should go something like this:

"Give us names, and we'll put a quick bullet in your head and give your parents life sentences. Refuse to cooperate, and we'll burn you and your miserable worthless parents at the stake."

Could you please give a list of video games which promote rape?

Grand Theft Auto comes to mind.

I see by your avatar that you play EvE. Tell me your in game name please. I want to pod you.

Grand Theft Auto DOES NOT have rape. It only allows you to pick up and kill prostitutes to increase your "life" meter. If rape was allowed in the game it would not have been given the R rating and would have been banned .

The only game I know that actively invovlves stalking and raping women is a game called "RapeLay" made by a Japanese company and sold almost exclusively in Japan till it was banned due to protests by some international feminist groups.

Are you really surprised ???/

This is one of those dreaded urban public schools where all the boys are in some gang and on drugs and the girls are pregnant and on drugs.

In this high school psyche, people who report things to the authorities are either beaten up or knifed after school. It is both social and physical suicide to report things and that is how these kids are brought up. Peer pressure forces them to keep quiet about stuff like this.

Well I guess that might be a plea deal worth making. Lol

But I doubt most would care about their parents since they do not care about other people.

While I am not blaming the game I just need to ask.

What do you call having sex with and killing then stealing your money back, if not rape?

If it was simply having sex it would be just that you should not be able to kill the prostitute. But since you can have sex with her, kill her and steal your money back I would consider that rape. After all it is not like she received anything for her services to you and you ended her life prior to her wishing it to end.

I have to be honest here. Given the city Im not surprised or shocked. On the rare occasion we drive by Richmond, we never get off the freeway and button up tight. its really that bad. As a rule, none of the local air ambulances will land in the city limits but rather land outside and ground rig in often with a police escort.

sick, disgusted, but not surprised.

Edit to add: Rishmond was not always like that BTW. It used to be a solid middle class town. My Grandma Ethel (who was really my aunt but its a long story) lived there and she was a welder of Libery Ships during WWII. It was a pleasant community where you never needed to lock your door. Now you need to load up.

We do not really know the details, i doubt many people will step in these days, with the apathy, of society.

While it is an emotive subject, I also feel that the parents should be named also. How does a person raise a young man to be so violent and hateful?

Simply by not raising them at all. Let them wander the streets, mix with older thugs and do odd jobs for drug dealers and gangs they idolize. Come when the Police or the school call to bail them out of trouble and then continue with total ignorance and apathy for the child.

Most teenage kids wants this kind of freedom and most of these parents would have given them exactly this.

I have absolutely no doubt that, if I found myself there as a young man, I would have picked up the nearest heavy thing and started smacking these guys out.

Well that just goes to show that you havent been to school in LONG time. Today in America, such "antics" would be reciprocated by you being beaten up and possible stabbed for your trouble and maybe even face the wrath of the student gangs in school for trying to be a "hero". Not to mention having to deal with the other street gangs who are connected to some school kids.

I cannot understand how any person could be raised in such a way as to not take action in this instance. Therefore, through inaction or poor teaching the parents share blame.

It is not inaction but rather the fear to act. As I said, being a hero would only invite grievous bodily harm and possibly social suicide. Nobody likes a hero.

In the communities these kind of kids grow up in, violence is rife and not intervening in these kind of situations is survival instinct. The most they could have done is call for the police. Their inability to do so shows that they either wanted the girl raped by the perpetrators or were too afraid of the police or the rapists to do anything about it.

It'll take naming these people to force other parents into taking responsibility for their offspring.

When the parents themselves are absent or on drugs etc. Naming names means nothing. If they have a little shame they will disown the kid and claim that they are as much victims as the girl who was raped and blame gangs etc.

I would call it Robbery and Homicide. And so would the police. You can call it what ever you wish but it doesnt make it so!

Do you the meaning of Rape ? One definition of "rape" is : "To destroy and strip of its possession". In this case, that is to destroy and strip a woman of her virtue!
Prostitutes have sex willingly and then are victims to robbery and homicide in Grand Theft Auto. That is NOT rape.

Robbery and homicide. Now if you throw in rape in that scenario I thinks its what they call 'Special Circumstances" and could lead to the death penalty BTW.

Are you guys really arguing the semantics of a fictional video game?

Usually prostitutes are protected by pimps or gangs, so if you murder and rob one, you'll likely be next. Unless you're an invincible character on a video game.

On to real life, i'm still kinda wondering if this wasn't a gang initiation that somehow got out of hand...like i said before, and nobody else has really mentioned it, but females are often initiated into gangs by being "gang banged" in. Again, i have NO idea if that's the case here, and if it's not then hopefully the little f-ers will spend a long time behind bars without ever touching another female again. I'd say they will get what's coming to them in prison, but again, if theyre in a gang they will probably be protected. That's why castration with a butter knife before their sentence would be a nice addition. Another poster mentioned crushing their balls for 2 hours first, but by that time shock would set in and they wouldn't get the full effect of the butter knife. Rapists are some of the lowest life forms on this planet.
