The Average ATS User

I'd like to take some time, and point out, (IMHO) what the average ATS User is, as seen from a viewpoint of a computer screen

Now I won't sum it all up as one, because each person is an individual, and can fall into several "Unique" categories.

But for the first part, I'll continue with a newly seen, generalization.

1) Vaccinophobic
2) Tyrannophobic
3) Triskaidekaphobic
4) Toxiphobic
5) Theologicophobic
6) Technophobic
7) Symbolophobic
8) Stygiophobia
9) Sophophobic- Fear of learning
10) Sociophobic
11) Politicophobic
12) Pneumatiphobic

Now that's just a small list of common Phobias of ATS users

Now for the persons themselves.


Type A- This user, tends to be logical, rational, and use good reasoning in every aspect. The user tends to look for links, proof, and validation from a reliable source, overly analytical, but justly.

Type B- This user, tends to believe anything someone in a well dressed suit says, via youtube, or in a local gas station. The User tends to believe something, because they want to believe it, than needing a proof to it, and may also build proof around it, making the world fit into a delusion, or perhaps a right answer. (Blind squirrels can indeed, find nuts).

Type C- This is a troll, they post subjects, and quickly log off. The subject is always antagonistic, and has little to no purpose, other to infuriate or mock 'Serious Users'. They may make a thread, or a post, in which they mock users, or just tread lightly against the T&C.

Type D- The "Semi-Lurker". This user has a Account on ATS, and have most likely had the account, for quite some time. Their posts are few and far between, (Usually 2 posts per month). They are frequently on, but rarely post. Due to the users, long time on ATS, they appear, and usually are, highly intelligent in what they speak about.

Type E- The Specialist. This User, (typically found in UFO and Alien threads, or 9/11 threads) sticks to topics, they know very well, and will varyingly go into other topics, such as politics, religion, and predictions. This specific user, tends to know alot more information in their specific field than the majority of ats (sometimes even combined!) does.

Type F- The new User. This user is new, an open minded person, (occasionally close minded) and is a typically, friendly ATSer. They tend to choose a side, after a month or two, and rarely, choose no side, and just watch the mayhem.


I can't seem to think of any other types. If there are feel free to add.

And if you feel you fit into a certain type, let us know, but by now, most probably know which type you are.

This is of course the myriad of users, that makes the community of ATS, and they are all appreciated.

I'll bite, I seem to be more of a cross between Types D and E. Politics, military, and a few other items I keep with in comparison to other subjects. I do spend more time lately since going through Army BCT lurking over posting but still being on and having an account since 2007. I usually do some lurking of a topic before posting anything.
I wanna see what other people have to say.

What about the type of user that gets on and says rude stuff to Rep08 just for attention.. hint hint wink wink.

Also what about the type of user that is on a lot and makes up a bunch of crazy threads to test everyones psyche and gets banned 50 times and keeps coming back...

All I can say that is HotDogs are delicious and so are grapes. Savvy?

There really are infinite possible permutations of users, and each can go through many moods and cycles as to their posting habits.

Not really worth stereotyping imho.

Type D for sure! Part of the reason for that is a lot of really interesting topics turn into childish put-downs & bickering. There are some type A's on here whom I admire very much.

I try to be a type A. But have been prone to flights of fancy and wild speculation, though I present it as just that. I don't believe anything I am told without reasonably looking into it. I've never been a troll and I've never posted a thread with the specific goal of getting a rise out of people. I try to be consistent, and fluid in my ideas. If any of that fails, The one thing that never does is my honesty. I know when I'm wrong and when logic escapes me I try not to post.

I seem to fit under neither. If there were a "worthless posters" type, then I could fit under that. Also, I hate the term "troll".

Plus, I don't think I'm a troll. Unless, of course, someone is a Slipknot fan.

I suppose I would have to fit into a new class.

Type G : A know it all in many topic's, who doesn't mind letting it fly every not and then to get a point across, can either be seen as a complete D-Bag, or a complete saviour depending on your vantage point.

haha, alot of people say I'm rude, but I just think my sarcasm doesnt translate well.

I don't quite fit the type D class, everything fits apart from the highly intelligent in what I speak about part

you forgot the cryptic, irrational, paranoid, afraid of his own shadow type
the abrasive, hypocritical, arrogant, ignorant close minded atheist type
and the abrasive, bible thumping, shove it down your throat christian type

I'd like to think of myself as a type AD... I've been around for quite a while now, but don't post all the time and seldom start threads. When I do post though I like to try and research stuff and provide links to what I say when that is helpful.

Good post, I think you summed it up well. Though I would add another type.

Well why not, as it is on the outside so shall it be on the inside.....

For me it is not so much thinking outside the box but more the realisation that the number of boxes you can choose from is infinite.....

Hmm, Type E I fit in, but I am definitely no specialist, I mean- I stick to certain topics but am no expert. I have many posts, but read alot more than I post here.

Type F, I am not that new here, but am still friendly in my posts and try my best not to be rude, because at the end of the day, we are all people. I do not mind being proven wrong, just don't be too rude and obnoxious about it, because I am overly sensitive and too often take things personally. I do love to learn, but still think my topics are crappy and sometimes wonder if I fit in here. Sometimes, this place makes me feel stupid... But what the heck. Insecurity is biotch. Oh well, Take it as it comes, maybe someday I will feel worthy..

Just thought I'd categorize ATS.

Didn't think it'd draw in negativity, but every thread of mine does, guess I got to get use to it, (though point not of you lol)

Just trying to analyze each type of member, and the first poster, I left out, surprisngly enough.

Type Z- The person who attacks, and contributes nothing, but gains stars for an 'ignorant post'.

There, a new addition added, , also a few others have added in, which I do appreciate, and have starred each post.

I also added in the OP, without editing it, that each individual member, whichever one, is a good member, and a contributional member.

Because without those members, it wouldn't make the great ole ATS, it takes all kinds to make the world.

We on ATS, have our Atheist, Agnostics, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and such will reply a variation of the form lol.

We have our debunkers, skeptics, believers, and truthers. It was a middle ground type of post, which showed me 'partially' that it's unacceptable, hey the guy who flat out attacked me and contributed nothing, got more stars then me, just goes to show, that if you out right attack a poster, then that's what gets you popularity.

But I could give a damn.

ATS is eventually divides into those who hate, and those who accept, and I'm leaning toward the accept group, or those who have followed me, have seen this, and I'd rather, look at what a poster says,then what my bias of them says.

Eh' in the end, I still get sexed, drunk, and a good day, lol, but in the end, you guys are pretty cool, smart individuals, who have found a refuge in a pretty darn cool site, and I appreciate your opinions, just got to find a member who got banned, and replace the ignore list of mine lol, (not you OPMC).

Nope, I already classified you as that! lol

You were one of the ones I thought of as a Type A.

I tried to make a point that each individual is an individual, but can be prescribed to a certain portion of the types.

It's certainly a summary, a stretched out one, it'd take years to identify each one, oh the poor government!!!

We do have some of the brightest on here, and I do wonder from time to time, how they found this place, like OzWeatherman, and such, how they even found this place!

Not just him though lol, not to boost his ego!

But just how some of these genius' found this place, befuddles me.
