I searched the ATS but couldn't find any article about it.

Here is the video taken right after the crash:
news.sky.com... rld_News_Article_Teaser_Region_0&lid=ARTICLE_15417869_Falling_Meteor_Blamed_For_15-Metre_Wide_Crater_In_Latvia

And the photos: www.milliyet.com.tr...

And now they are saying it is probably fake: news.bbc.co.uk...

I wonder why would someone fake such an event. The video seems really realistic, but who knows, they are already famous

Did you see the post on the right that says "Latvia has fallen metorite"? How well did you search? It's in the first group of posts.

That said, to answer your question... this was posted as a comment on that site.

"As a Geologist, it is absolutely a hoax.

1) It is too round. Almost all meteors enter the atmosphere at oblique angles causing unsymmetrical craters.

2) Meteors don't burn like a pyrotechnic device (they are typically metallic or stoney). The material burning looks like thermite (a mix of iron oxide and aluminum powder)

3) The ejected material is far too broken up and well distributed. Ejected material typically is thrown out in larger globes of soil because of the cohesive properties of the clay soils.

4) There would have been an audible impact that was not reported"
