Thanks for the comps. I am really happy I got on the front page, I even made a printscreen
It was all impulsive really...been here on ATS for a while, but never felt a need to even register, as liked to read quietly in lurk mode. I just hope it turns out to be even half close to the real deal.

Wow, I can't believe those guys went right up to the crater... I would have have gotten in a car and drive off as fast as the car could go screaming "ALIEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Isnt 20m quite large for a meteor? i thought meteors are barely noticeable on impact/entry?

I have seen pics of a basketball sized meteorite that totally demolished a 4 door sedan, it was nasty. You can probably do a search and find some photos of various damage done by meteorites.

nice...if I was there I'd collect it, wait and see if it endows me with superpowers then if it doesn't, I'd sell it on e-bay.

that's got to be worth a pretty penny, especially if it were metallic like an iridium meteorite

Here is another video from youtube - not sure if this is the same as posted (I'm not able to see it at work), but address is different:

Also, Latvian local news media informed that there was slightly higher radiation inside of the crater than outside and that the meteorit is burried in the ground and cannot be seen (they are planning to dig it out).
Also, the sand has melted in the crater, there is smell of sulfur too.
Few photos here (quality is quite low though):

Here is a source in Latvian

www.tvnet.lv...

photos here www.tvnet.lv...

For those, who don't understand Latvian. Main points.
- radiation above normal, but not dangerous
- sulphur smell - very strong. Source unknown
- melted sand - that means very high temperatures
- the ore has not been touched and investigated yet

That video is awesome. I confess that if I had seen that happen, I would have totally done the exact same thing and ran up to it to check it out without thinking twice of radiation. Yep. I guess I'm stupid that way.

i lol at all the people saying fake ... like they actually know what a meteor impact looks like just after impact

so tell us how many have u seen before ... and exactly what was the metal that landed .. as clearly by ur statements i would assume you have studied the metal in great detail and know exactly what it is

so its either that or you have no idea what your talking about ... hmmm im pretty sure i know the answer to this one

come holmes, onto our next mystery

A very interesting video. By the size of the crater you would have thought it would have been heard for quite a distance. It also doesn't look like crater holes that I have seen documented. And also odd the way the meteor was not buried and just sat right there on top still on fire. I'm not an expert but I have doubts.

Maybe it was a crashed flying saucer instead.A crashed ufo.Now that would make a good story to show the world.

You go King!

I was thinking it but you said it.

All these crater experts on here, make me laugh.

"The meteroite is just sitting on top like someone placed it in the hole"

...too funny.

That is burning sand you are seeing, not the meteor. The meteor is burried under the flames.

Gosh I love this site.

Serious Entertainment value.

First anomalies reported. (works in progress)

1. There was no explosion or it was very insignificant.
2. Consequently there are no parts of meteorite around and in the hole.
3. The whole in the middle was burning - that does not ever happen (apparently) when meteorite crashes in soil.

----------
Additionally.
The size of the meteorite was may be couple of metres. That's why it was not detected when approaching the Earth. They show up on radar starting from the size of the bus.

I'll keep you updated, cause I am Latvian.

I wonder if a local farmer found a small child wearing red underpants,
better check the north pole for strange crystals.

If you mean... this wormwood

"And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter." (Revelation 8:10)

it better bloody not be >.< although it didnt land in a river so i doubt it
