Currently, I'd say a nuclear holocaust.

In general, I'd say fear of the unknown

You mean the walking dead, right?

I'would have said nuclear holocaust too, but then I learned how to stop worrying, and love the bombs.
Next I'd guess 'the unknown' but I try to be prepared for it. In the end, if you look closely, try to see past the unknown... You'll see fear.

So I'm with Patton, and Zenlike: Fear Itself.

I'll take a stab at it and state that man's greatest fear is probably powerlessness. I think that's why man craves power in all its various forms. Man is powerless over death so I think that is why he craves dominion over others so that he can feel secure over having some semblance of control of something in his life while he still has it.

Man's greatest fear is being alone.

Thinking of something witty or profound to add..........................sorry.

Man's greatest fear is being alone.

I do not think we have any real answer in this thread and i am not going to say my biggest fear, trying not to offend people here.

I think one of the biggest fears is that they are not in control of there own lifes. This is why they all ignore mind control, and never want to discuss it, as they all want to know there life and choices are theres.

I am not saying that is the greatest fear, i am saying it is one of them.

Shouldn't pain be added to that list aswell?? Or how about drowning (i mean if falling is on your list)??

I guess every other animal has a fear of loud noises and beside birds most will not like the concept of falling aswell

The question is what is man's biggest fear, so first look at what defines man......

Peace

No, not pain.
See, many people have to live with pain in varying intensities.
Pain can be overcome, or blocked out. At the very least pain can drive you insane, then it doesn't matter anyways...

You mean these people have learned deal with a certain pain. That automatically means they do not fear any other form of pain??

I do not completly understand what you are trying to say but if you are getting at buddist priest who have learned to overcome the emotion of pain than i can understand what you saying but then still that would not aply to 50% or more of the world population....no way that many people are as dedicated and focussed as those guys.

Peace

Maybe half the worlds population are not as dedicated at this moment.
But they can all learn to deal with pain and the like if they tried or had to.
So I don't think that pain fits into the context of the OP's question "man's greatest fear".

Fear of being yourself.
Fear of yourself.

Fear of shame or embarassment.
Fear of loss.
Fear of risk.
Fear of faliture.
Fear of rejection.
Fear of criticism.
Fear of the unknown.
Fear of change.

That is a good one. The love for another is powerful indeed. When my mother died it hurt beyond what I knew hurt was. But I did not fear losing her. I know we will meet again. As most religions you are reunited in the after this life.
