Pentagon used psychological operation on US public, documents show

rawstory.com

A months-long review of documents and interviews with Pentagon personnel has revealed that the Bush Administration's military analyst program -- aimed at selling the Iraq war to the American people -- operated through a secretive collaboration between the Defense Department's press and community relations offices.

Raw Story has also uncovered evidence that directly ties the activities undertaken in the military analyst program to an official US military document’s definition of psychological operations -- propaganda that is only supposed to be directed toward foreign audiences.

I think we all expected this to be the case with regards to the Iraq war and the prepping of the public to except the Iraq war .
Is anyone troubled to learn that there government would undertake a psy. op on them to gain approval for a war ?

Or do you simply expect this kind of behavior from your government ?

Makes one think that if your own government will undertake such a policy against its own people just where will it draw the line ?

Personally I am of the belief that if there is truth to this report then some officials should be put on the spot and forced to answer some serious questions , assuming that the public can appreciate the ramifications of such an act on behalf of there government .

I doubt this will surprise anyone. I recall people questioning how all the war correspondents and experts, ect. that appeared daily on all major network news and telling us how well things were going. I also remember all the ones that helped to sell the war before we invaded. The most disappointing one being Colon Powell.

I would like to see more proof of misleading the public before the war. That would be liable.

I can't help but wonder just how often this tactic is used against us ?

Seems not right at all considering we live in a " free and open " society .

Have the people been so far removed from there leadership that the people have lost any and all recourse to take the appropriate action when wronged by there leadership ?

If that is the case does that imply that we have lost our republic ?

Hi there!!
Im fro on of the so-called "allies"countries of the USA, Poland in fact it seems that we are considered moe as the vasal states...and our governements act like servants. Check out the Antymissile Shield story(or whats you call it ?).
Nobody sane in Poland wants it but most of our politicians try to impose the new foreign military base in the Pomeranian region which is known from the centuries from the destructive presence of the would-be allied armies...The first probably the Teuton Holly Mary Order- offspring of the Crussades Knightly Orders...off topic
Well You can google it..anyway- the newest "alies"- Soviet Red Army is still nightmare for many peoples in Poland.
Im not antiamerican- but whats up with the foreign politics of your country now???Surely they easili find the willing servants everiwhere...still...but the polish Peoples, however always friends of the USA are getting tired wit all that story.
And anyway that antimissile installation is screaming loud: "decoy". Im, most of my folks dont want my country to be pawn of anybody !!!!
Please do something with your foreign policy , especial towards the allied countries.
sorry for my English
Peace

Raw Story is the source. Another far left news site. And *SURPRISE* they are blaming Bush for all kinds of things. Oh the irony of a left wing propaganda site claiming that Bush engaged in propaganda, and yet it is Obama who has the school children chanting his name and who is creating a disinformation network that would make Goebbels proud.

The desperation of the left is starting to show. The white house attempting to marginalize Fox News, one of the few media outlets that don't control, the attacks on those who are not in the tank for the Democrats... it's starting to all come apart for them.

Actually Raw dishes it out pretty good against Obama too . . Perhaps you have the site confused with a different site ? Raw is actually a pretty good site for breaking news and I as of yet have never found a flat out BS report .

I don't want to put words in your mouth but am I correct in guessing that you are of the belief that the US government didn't partake in a psy. op. on its own people for the purpose to trump up support for war ?

Anyone of that belief in MHO would be in a very small minority .

What?

FOX may be the underdog of the MSM currently, but if you think they don't try to control you then you are mistaken. They have repeatedly altered and misreported facts to make Obama look bad. I'm no Obama supporter, but FOX news is just as bad as the others. They are just playing on different sides of the fence.

We are subject to this everyday of our lives on some subtle level atleast. Not necessarily as targets of the government, but that's just the nature of the 'consequence of sense' (yea, I just came up with that, it made me laugh atleast. haha)

But on a more serious note, our 5 senses don't show us the clearest picture of the world - so really, anything designed to trigger certain thought process or judgments is in some respect, a psychological factor in our experience.

By the way, I'm not trying to get too in-depth, just trying to get to 20 replies so I can start some topics.

(I know this is off topic, but it is something that needs attention and my reasoning for joining ATS)
Please, if you haven't already, look into it check out the

Hope that helps in some way. For someone.

Sorry, I just saw your post. "Stay on target"

In which case, look into the recently declassified MKUltra documents. I think that's the project name. Something similar atleast.

They have [the military, homeland security, the pentagon, etc] been experimenting with things such as TELEPATHICALLY sending a message from a HUMAN subject to a SUBMARINE underwater. This has been documented under MKUltra. The message, I think, arrived in morse code on the sub.

Check out this article for some more info:
"Federal Money Psychological Warfare Esoteric System Americans Power Elite Democracy Or Socialism"

Thanks.

This doesn't surprise me considering that the Weapons of Mass Destruction contentions turned out to be pure myth and fantasy.

I think the real relevance here is can we trust the Government or the media to be straight with us in regards to Iran?

The similarities are striking, same kind of allegations, and same kind of 'urgent' and 'imminent' threat if we don't act, and act decisively and quickly.

It all though honestly smacks to me of the same exact kind of lies.

I do not trust our government or the extent that they will go to in waging this phony War on Terror.

I flagged your post but I'm not really sure it is news. I think most people expect that from "good old" Uncle Sam.

As the saying goes, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." (See, I can say it better than Bush did!!! Couldn't resist)

I'm bothered that some are being just as easily duped this time around. Although, in all "fairness", some people still don't think they were duped into supporting a hidden agenda. The government tells us everything as it is, you know? That is, unless it's to protect our national security which really seems to cover just about everything.

That's the sad part. People not only expect it but think it's just how things are supposed to go and so it's not really news at all.

It's called conditioning.

How right you are . If we are being conditioned does that not imply that the person/persons doing the conditioning has an agenda ? If thats the case we then need to understand why our elected government officials feel that they need to condition us through manipulation and just who's interests do they have at heart ?

That's a good one. No the source is alright, though I always thought they were right leaning.

Bingo. Iran is going to be a much harder sell though after Iraq, and I don't think we will see any military action with democrats in power. We will have to see what happens in the next elections.

No one should be surprised by the Pentagon feeding talking points to their point men. Unfortunately, the war didn't turn out the way they thought. To them, it doesn't matter, because they achieved their goals and we are left to just suck on it.

America is not unique in this regard. Every country will propagandize to a degree. It is up to each of us to fall for it or not, and that is what this site is all about. Denying ignorance.
