I admit, I didn't know that
thanks for clarifying

You get a star for that. See? We CAN play nice, when we get past the tantrum throwing stages.

No America did not blow up the twin towers, Bin Laden’s henchmen did. No we have not won any territory nor do we get any spoils of war from Iraq... Believe what you want to believe but you are wrong in your observations ( my thoughts)

The whole point of this thread was to point out to Europe that you blame America for the troubles of the world when In doubt you two are the problem. But typical stuff here that people ignore one thing and connect it with something random.

I Don't blame the American people, I blame the American Govt, I blame the UK Govt, I blame the Iran Govt, I blame every Govt around the world because they are all to blame. They all want power, raw materials etc etc.

Also you say that America has got nothing, no spoils of war from IRAQ, Have a look at what companies won the major oil contracts there. There are many spoils for America from the war in Iraq, some directly, some not so directly.

again What? No million Iraqis died there and show me some proof the Ron Paul said that... And incase you are not aware and need a recent history lesson the war is not Illegal the US Congress authorized use of force to remove Saddam. nuff said.

LOL it is illegal my friend from across the pond,The UN would have to authorise the use of force against Iraq-If you cast your mind back to just before the war the UN was bugged by certain goverments shady intel people to see how they would vote.Tony Blair was trying his hardest to tell Bush that the UN would allow it,but when they found out there was no way they didnt bother to wait for the UN and dropped the bombs for fun

I think some of you yanks are wrapped too tightly in your stars and stripes to see the real world, and fall for the media brainswashing and revised history lessons

OF topic slightly,Blair was confronted by parents of the poor brave british soldiers about this disgusting lie of a war and he said getting rid of saddam was the right thing to do!
BS-He himself is on record saying that Saddam could stay in power as long as his WMD were destroyed. The deluded fool lives in a bubble of reality so far out of sync to what we all live in on this board

You are right about Europes bloody past, shame my country tarnished its modern image with this dispicable theatre of war.

It looks like the rest of europe learnt its lessons, hopefully our two countries can do the same one day

So let me see if I can keep score here... for the sake of thread space, we'll start somewhere around the time of the Caesars...

Rome conquered most of Europe, bloodletting everyone from the Norman-Saxons on down... then the Visigoths (or was it the Goths?) sacked Rome, killing thousands upon thousands... Europe engaged in the 1st and 2nd Great Crusades to defend (or retake) Jerusalem from the Moors, both sides killing tens of thousands... the Spanish had their Inquisition, the Roman Catholic Church had people excommunicated or burned at the stake for daring to believe things like the Earth wasn't the center of the Universe... the 100 years war, the War of the Roses, the sinking of the Spanish fleet by the British, the French Revolution which is why we know what a guillotine is, millions of South American natives slaughtered at the hands of the Spanish, the French and Indian war in which smallpox riddled blankies were used as siege weapons, the American Revolution which all but destroyed the British military as well as the East Coast of the current U.S., the war of 1812, Napoleon's genocidal idiocy, Mexican-American war, the virtual elimination of Native Americans, the Spanish-American war, some piddly little Archduke gets his head blown off in Austria-Hungary which brought us Mustard Gas and trench warfare, World War II, the Korean War in which even the U.N. had to pick a side which resulted in China getting pissed and kicking the U.N. and McCarthur clean out of Asia, the French bite off more than they can chew in Viet Nam, so the U.S. goes in and makes an even bigger mess, The Falklands, the Iran Revolution of '79, Grenada, the first Gulf War started by a lunatic despot and ended by the U.S. with a lot of U.N. backing, which lef to Iraq part deux, an Afghanistan which couldn't be taken by neither the Soviets nor (now) the Americans... that about it?

Okay, all that typing may have been for nothing as this post may be deleted, but I think it's safe to say after re-reading the above that historically, we're all a bunch of douchey jackasses that need to learn from past mistakes. Don't think any one nation can claim the prize on this one.

I can agree with your post for the most part, Nowhere did I mention that we are perfect (America) I have mentioned that are foreign policy needs to be revised... and as far as big business there not going to stop there crap until the government tightens down on them... But why would they do that considering the get millions in donations from them...

I will give you this example.. I am poor (money wise) I ran for Congress in 2008 I lost. Want to know why? Not because of my ideas, but because my Dem opponent and Repub opponent out spent me. Who both happened to be backed by Big labor and Big Business. As a matter of fact those two were more afraid of me then they were of each other. They ran attack adds against me and try to keep me out of the debate. even though at the debate my poll number were bumped up because people liked what I had to say...-) unfortunately though I lost because the ran adds like I like to eat puppies and such and there big Union work force who get paid to go get voters. So I know all to well about Americas Political Corruption-)

Interesting perspective.

As an American I see the US being put under the microscope and judged all day everyday by the world. We get our actions thrown in our faces all the time here on ATS.

You do realise this is as a direct consequence of America taking centre stage in world affairs don't you. If you want to stand in the spotlight (and reap the applause, oil, whatever) then you've got to expect the negatives too.

When somebody simply points out what others have done now all of a sudden somebody starts saying we are claiming the following?????

{USA is #1} ?

You're taking this out of context. This thread is in reponse - no matter what the OP claims - to a couple of recent threads about American posters on ATS. Part of the reasoning behind those threads is due to what I mentioned above and you've quoted. Over the years, the 'USA OK!' cheer-leading has been rife, and more often than not, it's quickly followed up with comments about how great America is and how # it is everywhere else because we don't have American [insert variable from a long list]

And of course they throw this crap in there.

{Y'all}

Talk about generalizations

Sad really.

That's a bit rich considering the basis of this thread is about the lumping together of dozens of countries with different cultures and even languages as one single body that's, apparently, all the same.

And you've got the gall to talk about "generalisations"?

BP, China oil firm to control development of major new Iraq oil field
BAGHDAD — The Iraqi Oil Ministry has signed an agreement with British Petroleum and China's CNPC to develop the Rumeila oil field.

Oil companies accept Iraq bid terms
A consortium led by Italy’s Eni has agreed to develop the country’s 4.1 billion barrel Zubair oil field for $2 per barrel produced based on a target production level of 1.125 million barrels per day, he said.

Two other consortiums, one led by Russia’s Lukoil and ConocoPhilips, and another by Exxon Mobil with Royal Dutch Shell, have agreed to develop the 8.6 billion barrel West Qurna Stage 1 oil field for $1.9 per barrel, al-Shahristani said.

Did i say it wasnt or that wall street was right?

No, you obviously didn't ; I wish you would.

Why do you consider it so wrong for European settlers to exploit native races ... yet you have no opinion about present day American corporations which financially rape developing nations ? What happens when the Man from Delmonte says "No" ?

Making out as if you're all morally superior when you're in the gutter like everyone else.

What do you want me to do about European colonialism in the 17th & 18th C ? Send a letter of protest to Ye Olde Worlde New Amsterdam Times ? I wish I could ...

You meanwhile can do something about the wrongs of your nation. Get yourself off your PC, go and demonstrate, organise a tea party, set fire to yourself outside the White House or blow the President's brains out. At least you can do something ; I can't do anything about King Alfred burning the cakes.

*I do not advocate either setting fire to yourself or blowing the President's brains out*
*both would be baaaaaad*
*but would make for great tv*

What? hey! umm....we agree? how did that happen

Big respect for your Congress attempt. I too have been tempted, and the worse the world gets the more I want to take up public service. I've got two problems with it though, first I would hate to be 'known' I like anonymity. Also I have had to use 'herbal' pain relief for my disabilities over the years, and those skeletons always come out, and in the UK it's still an absolute no no for public service.
