The Moon is a big sponge that absorbs electrically charged particles given out by the Sun. These particles interact with the oxygen present in some dust grains on the lunar surface, producing water. This discovery, made by the ESA-ISRO instrument SARA onboard the Indian Chandrayaan-1 lunar orbiter, confirms how water is likely being created on the lunar surface.

This is fascinating to me! I just never ever ever would have even thought about that being possible. I think science and the way it works it incredible!

That is awesome news!

It's just too bad we have so much cash flowing into militaries when it all could be going into expanding the horizons of humanity.

What a great day for space news. Plentiful oxygen on Europa and the moon producing its own supply of water.

All we need is a discovery of underground lakes on Mars and it'll make my week!

I wonder if it's a sign of what we need to be doing?

So where does the water go from there? Clearly it doesn't accumulate. Does it just evaporate?
