I sense another extremely large bubble (maybe the largest of all over the past few years) the bubble of lies and deceptions here and globally. Maybe Fox wants the lead as the white house or is that the black house now cannot find any more reasonable (if their ever was) way of hiding the truth about their (TRUE) colors. Should become very interesting as we watch the unraveling of "yes we can".

I think they should as a news channel...there are laws against presenting offical statements that are knowingly falsehoods. This is not done because its in the guise of commentary of course (which the average brain cannot understand the difference).

What Are Defamation, Libel and Slander?
Generally speaking, defamation is the issuance of a false statement about another person, which causes that person to suffer harm. Slander involves the making of defamatory statements by a transitory (non-fixed) representation, usually an oral (spoken) representation. Libel involves the making of defamatory statements in a printed or fixed medium, such as a magazine or newspaper.

Typically, the elements of a cause of action for defamation include:

1.A false and defamatory statement concerning another;
2.The unprivileged publication of the statement to a third party (that is, somebody other than the person defamed by the statement);
3.If the defamatory matter is of public concern, fault amounting at least to negligence on the part of the publisher; and
4.Damage to the plaintiff.

Ahh nothing like a bit of racism to raise the bar of intellect on this discussion.

Yep, I am out...nothing more to see here...choose your delusion carefully I guess.

If they are proven liars, then most definately. I suggest strong fines for intentional lies...after they lose a few million each time they lie, they will get the message.

Så let me get this straight. There was a poll where americans voted on wich news channel they trusted the most and Fox news was a clear winner. People in here seems to agree. Fox news for me as a foreigner is a very republican channel and you still don't see why the White house is worried?

I really don't get it though since there was many cases under the election last year where Fox news deliberately lied about Obama and the "Clinton's".

Its just like the nobel peace price where it seems nobody understand why he got the prize. If you still havent heard the prize was given mostly because it would make it harder for the Obama administration to go into wars from now on, and the wars they already are in, to do much harm withouth the eyes of everyone looking. Even one of the members nobel peace commity said she felt the prize was not given to him just because of his word's that gave millions blind faith but also for what he will do in the future.

Frankly, I am appalled at the amount of elitism from some posters, here. "Don't watch FOX. They are biased." "Don't watch CNN. They are biased." I find it astounding that those who don't like FOX News (for whatever reason) are always quick to resort to name calling of those who do watch it. Elitist, folks. Very elitist. If you don't believe that's true, just go back and read this entire thread.

How about giving each other a little credit? What about the people who watch the news, then draw their own conclusions? What about those who "see" a news item, then seek more information to either lend it credence or dispel it? We are, for the most part, a more educated, informed and intelligent group than what is being presented.

I don't care which news outlet someone uses, we should not take their stories as truth, based solely on which outlet presents them. Those that do are biased listeners.

Of course, there is some bias in the opinion shows. That is the nature of opinion. If you don't like it, don't listen. But, we can never attempt to stifle a point of view.

Dizzie do you think Beck is right about members of the Obama Administration?

I do after I do my own research if it comes out that he is right. I dont agree with everything that he says. Personally, I believe Cali is doing the right thing with legalizing pot. But at the same token, alot of what he says does turn out to be true. Its hard to argue about Anita Dunn being a Maoist when she, by her own admission, says that he is one of the two political advisors she looks to most. Those are her words out of her mouth. How can somebody really argue with that? She can say all she wants that somebody else said it first, but that still doesnt make it right. I dont care if a rep did or not, why would you follow his lead if he did when you know it is wrong? He was wrong if he said that and so is Anitta Dunn. Simple. Both should be fired and run outa politics imho.

Again tho, he is a commentator. Not a journalist. He admits so all the time. He makes people think outside of the box instead of just taking everything at face value. At face value alot of the bills that are put thru congress sound pretty good. Hell, id even say, just at face value that the Patriot Act sounds ok. At face value it says its only gonna spy on "terrorists". But then you have to think outside of the box and say, gee, who determines who is a "terrorist"? How far does the Patriot Act go in preventing terror? Do they just tap everyone (highly doubtful) to prevent things from happening? Is this moral that this happens? Can we as a people be left to ourselves instead of having to worry about big brother lookin on us?

When you start to think outside of the box like at the Patriot Act, you see that alot of the crap that is in the gov is just that, crap. Instead of taking something at just face value, try asking "What if? Why? What will it be used for? How will it be done? Who will be in control of such a measure?" Always question authority. Questioning authority is what created this nation and made it strong, we are forgetting to do so now imho.

poedxsoldiervet,

Glad to see I am not the only one who caught it. It would seem that for many Americans ..history is not a strong subject.
Those of us who know some history also know some European History and how many wars and cruelties they foisted off on themselves and the world.
I have this topic often with many Englishmen who are raised on a diet of public education and television/movies which ignore the history of European wars and imperialism while trying to point out the shortcomings or effeciencys of other countries.

While I am not interested in gloating on it I do make mention of this history and view of Europe. I also recall recently that Europe sat by and let a genocide take place right there in Yugoslavia in the 1990s. It does not do well to speak of America in this light while this happened right on their doorstep/continent along with all the munitions, debris, and death.

I also agree with most of what Dizzie56 states in their post above about the administration and Fox news. Well stated Dizzie56.

Thanks,
Orangetom

Not really sure what this adds to this, but here is a link showing whom Ruport Murdock gave money too.

www.newsmeat.com...

61 % GOP, 22% Dems (including Hillary in the primary) and 17% Other (special interst)

www.newsmeat.com...

Jon Stewart 2 Dems.

If someone wants to double check with another source, go for it. it appears that Jon Stewart, is basically all talk, no action.

I have to get back to work, but i think it would be fun if someone looked up the heads of MSNBC, CNN, ect and see how they spent their money.

Lets also look at the simple FACT that Fox news is way higher in ratings. What does that tell you?

That tells me the FACTS

FACT: Fox news targets conservative republicans
FACT: MSNBC, CNN, CBS, CSPAN, etc target the rest

lets say you have 10 million news watchers tuning in...2 million of them are conservatives and goto their comfy place of Fox to hear about how they are the only real americans

the other 8 million divide up into the other networks, some going to CNN, some going to MSNBC, some going to CSPAN (may god have mercy on their souls).

Skew the numbers as much as you want, but simply put, Fox, or better yet, ultra conservatives account for about 2-3 million people in America...there are over 300m people tuning in and about 10 times the amount that Fox gets dividing up into the other news networks at the prime times...why? because Fix News is simple entertainment for a specific mind controlled segment of the population.

Fox News should have its broadcasting license revoked or fined heavily everytime they knowingly lie...even the commentators.

If you revoke Fox's, you should def revoke the others as well. If they are number one, to me that means that there are more like minded people that follow along than the viewers of Olberman and company. And why exactly should we revoke anybodys license to exersice their right to free speech?

1) There is no poll, it is based on the number of viewers that actually watch the show. It is a ratings program that generates the numbers.

2) I dont think that calling Obama a socialist is a lie if its actually the truth.

3) So, they are politicizing the nobel peace prize and trying to use it to stop wars from happening instead of giving it to somebody who actually accomplishes something? That argument doesnt help ur cause imo. If you believe that he will stop either war from continuing then you are sadly mistaken and in for a major let down.

I cannot wait until 2010 and congress elections happen and then I cannot wait for 2013 for the Presidential election process to start again hopefully with some good candidates this time...by then hopefully more will have been converted to independents and we can lose the far LEFT and RIGHT and elect someone good for the US...

At the end of the day I am American and care about the US first and foremost, I live here, eat here and will hopefully/probably die here...!

Good Gawd! You sound just like the people who thought of Bush as the best Prez ever and said things like this to people like me who had anything negative to say about him.

Fox news has it's flaws and all those crap (IMO) "news" stations are incredibly partisan. You can't rely on getting straight facts from any of them. The tables turn depending on which party is in power.
