It is because he broke a milestone ...an odd habit.... He made it to office of president.... and he was not a rich old overweight white male.

Him for being him...was first.

For breaking the mold for 12 days of service... he was worthy of the Nobel peace prize.

The UN had a black president before the US did.

I think it was racially motivated.

For better or worse.

For 12 days of service I would like to hear a more logical answer than the one I offer ...

Well that makes more sense to me than what any official would probaly come up with

Yea but it takes away from the fact that his election had nothing to do with race The American people elected him. So actually his race is a poor reason...

Thats the strange thing, I agree it may have been a token of something or other for him breaking a racial barrier. I think it was a horrible idea but can't dispute your logic.

Maybe it is and maybe it aint... I am no judge. All I know is 12 days in office is barley enough time to warm your presidential seat let alone do anything Nobel worthy.

All I can see is that he broke rank.... A long standing tradition.... What was once only the realm of rich white men is no under the direction of a rich black man...

I can not wait for the day a poor man is elected to office..... maybe when pigs fly.....Lord know I do not feel represented by a man who enjoys as much money as obama does.... But that is neither here nor there.

What did Obama do in 12 days?

He won the race to president.

That is what he did....and For some that is enough....

According to the Nobel committee Obama got the 'Peace' prize for what he has promised to do, not on actual accomplishments. Whereas a lot of people know he actually received it for his messiah complex with the global socialist community, of which the Nobel committee are members.

why does it matter to you all so much?

I mean seriously....
Rush Limbaugh was nominated for this thing...

Granted...he did not win, but i mean come on.

But to more accurately attempt to answer your question "What has he done"

Here is the wiki entry for what the peace prize was intended to do

shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses

I bolded the last part because i believe it's the easiest to show you a good example of:

Remember when the right wing was lobbying for an attack on Iran?
Remember when the media war machine was churning out anti-Iran propaganda?

And Barack Obama's response was:

Lets end this strained relationship and begin working anew

And do you remember the right wing back lash that it received?

Yeah. Thats a big difference.

"Lets figure a way to avoid war and solve our differences"

vs.

"KILL THE COMMUNISTS...ERR...WHATEVER THEY ARE!!!! BOMB THEM"

Hence peace prize (for this reason among other things)

Say what you want about Barack Obama. In many many ways he's just like his predecessors and i won't argue with you there.

But he was willing to stand up and say lets use diplomacy - when the administration in power, and the administration running for the GOP nomination, was screaming "bomb, bomb, bomb.....bomb bomb Iran"

You know snarf I read everything your saying and I just wanted to point out the question of the OP to you....

What did he do in 12 days.

Because before that it was just Senator Obama...

What did Obama accomplish in 12 days as president that made him Nobel worthy?

You say it is his diplomatic attitude?

Do you hold to that.... In 12 days he displayed his diplomatic insistence of peace?

I ask I remember the first thing he did.... I thought it involved his wife and a night on the town in Paris.

Lords knows I might of done the same If won the presidency.

I'm certainly not saying that i think Obama was "the best choice" for the nobel prize.

And you seemingly easily forget that before he was president...he was campaigning to be president.

So by talking about peace, and spreading the idea of diplomacy over war...

What did he do in his first 12 days? Thats a strawman argument - with due respect.

Because he did much more - in the context of "what did he do to deserve this prize" before those first 12 days.

A prerequisite of winning isnt "being president"

Hmmmm You should re-read the rules of disinformation as well as the OP. No offense but to quote the OP

President Obama would have been in office for approx 12 days when the deadline for submission of nominees was closed.

So there is no Straw man here. And I understand that he campaigned before he won. I listened to his YES WE CAN attitude...but many before him have campaigned and with much more commitment to the Idea of peace.

It is just mind boggling that HE won it... folks from both sides of the political field are astounded. Everyone is surprised because he has not had enough time to do anything significant. Maybe if the prize was given to him in year two of his presidency or after his term was finished like other ex-presidents ...but no....

He got his for winning the presidency.... and I believe that he won the peace prize strictly for breaking tradition by winning the presidency and by virtue of the color of his skin he was born with. As I said before... The UN had a black president before the US did... now the US has FINALLY elected someone that is not white....

Maybe Obama will go on to do great things.... Maybe he will call our troops home. Maybe he will call for an end to the patriot acts. Maybe he will close Gitmo. Maybe....

Till then everything is what it is.... I don't hold any ill will against him in any difference I would to any president because I find all presidents bad people. After JFK there is no president I like.... and I only like JFK because I heard his speechs I know he was anti fraternal. I doubt Obama is anti fraternal.

But I do not doubt his winning the Nobel peace prize. He won it... was it earned? That may be a matter of debate but it dont change the facts... leaving us with the OPs musings.... What did he do in 12 days that made him special above so many others?

He won the US race for president.

Again - the answer to your question is: NOTHING

In those 12 days

It was those 12 days added to all the days before it and all the speeches before it.

That's the answer.

Now the question si rather or not you agree with it.

You, obviously, do not.

But to say that he didn't earn it because he did nothing in his first 12 days in office is ludicrous.

It wasn't like nobody heard of Barack Obama before his first day as President.

And that being said - to contine to say "what did he do in his first 12 days" *IS* a strawman argument.
