It would be nice if this type of rhetoric would stop on threads such as this.

For the record, first, my own family heritage is Comanche-Blackfoot-Irish-ScotsIrish-Welch-Portugese-Gypsy-Mexican-Polish-Japanese-African (my brother and I traced our family records for years as a hobby.) So, you can see that I have no racial axe to grind.

Second, I am a life-long Progressive Socialist who votes for the best viable candidate available within the bounds of reasonable political honesty and integrity. That position does not allow for supporting candidates who would be in direct conflict with the Constitution, our nation's greatest laws. I cannot be compelled to do so even by the candidate with positions most favorable to my own.

In this case, Obama.

I chose Cynthia McKinney of the Green Party instead, knowing full well I was not voting for the most likely winner by anyone's measure, because of my own research into Obama's increasingly compromised past history and his penchant for lying beyond what I considered prudent in a politician of this era.

Some of my closest friends were shocked in disbelief at my decision. Many of them also came to that conclusion eventually. Some are just now understanding what a difficult position Obama has placed all Progressives in with his lies - and how much more difficult our struggle for the hearts and hopes of our fellow citizens will become in the future.

Last, I come from a background of extreme poverty and religion, worked my way through post-doctoral training, and have a very high IQ. Ignorance, intolerance and right-wing politics are not terms people use to describe me.

Please consider widening your perspective. The world is full of many wonderful people just waiting to be recognized and appreciated for who they really are, not what you think they should be.

Everybody's discussing the Kenya aspect of this article, but instead what I find most disturbing is this:

Kenyan-born US Senate hopeful, Barrack Obama, appeared set to take over the Illinois Senate seat after his main rival, Jack Ryan, dropped out of the race on Friday night amid a furor over lurid sex club allegations.

The allegations that horrified fellow Republicans and caused his once-promising candidacy to implode in four short days have given Obama a clear lead as Republicans struggled to fetch an alternative.

So, this man has seemingly overcome the odds twice. Amazing that, if not for the sex club discoveries, he may never have even been a senator. Then, to further the 'awe' factor, not 5 years after this, he is now President.

But, apparently Obama is only opposed to having HIS records released to the public:

Ryan married actress Jeri Ryan in 1991; together they have a son, Alex Ryan. They divorced in 1999 in California, and the records of the divorce were sealed at their mutual request. Five years later, when Ryan's Senate campaign began, the Chicago Tribune newspaper and WLS-TV, the local ABC affiliate, sought to have the records released. On March 3, 2004, several of Ryan's GOP primary opponents urged release of the records.[5] Both Ryan and his wife agreed to make their divorce records public, but not make the custody records public, claiming that the custody records could be harmful to their son if released. On March 16, 2004, Ryan won the GOP primary with 36 percent to 23 percent against Jim Oberweis who came in second.[6] Obama won the Democratic primary, with 53 percent to 23 percent against Dan Hynes, who came in second.

On March 29, 2004, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Robert Schnider ruled that several of the Ryans' divorce records should be opened to the public, and ruled that a court-appointed referee would later decide which custody files should remain sealed to protect the interests of Ryan's young child.[7] The following week, on April 2, 2004, Barack Obama formally established his position about the Ryans' soon-to-be-released divorce records, and called on Democrats not to inject them into the campaign.[8] The Ryan campaign characterized Obama's shift as hypocritical, because Obama's alleged backers had been emailing reports about the divorce records prior to Judge Schnider's decision.[8]

And yes, for anyone wondering, unsealing a candidate's divorce records is NOT the norm:

According to Ryan, it was unprecedented in American politics for a newspaper to sue for access to sealed custody documents. Ryan opposed unsealing the divorce records of Senator John Kerry during Kerry's race against George W. Bush in 2004, and Kerry's divorce records remained sealed.

What would have prompted the author to say Obama was born in Kenya?

I think I'll buy what state officials confirm to me as opposed to what somebody assumed on a small time online news site.

Well then so long as state officials confirmed it!! He is the POTUS and I am sure that he can get whatever he wants as far as confirmation from a government agency. Personally, I don't give a damn where he was born. Maybe he is actually from Mars , now that would be cool. Let's see if we can dig some info up and start a new conspiracy .j/k

What I have noticed is the man promised a transparent government, and then had made sure it's anything but. This leaves everyone who would have liked what has promised turning into his version of 'conspiracy nuts, possible terrorists' and the like. You have simple racial nose wiping making anyone else who just doesn't like his policy into racists.

As I said a long, long time ago in a thread far, far, away- that short form all over the internet from Hawaii IS A FAKE. I don't know who made it, I don't know if it's official, nothing about that. ALL I know is the fact that that thing is a photoshopped thing. Now, IF that 'short form' is what he's touting as the real thing- we're all in a lot of deep crap. I don't need you blind supporters screaming obscenities at me for the simple fact, I do not support, nor do I NOT support the man. I believe everything everything in politics went down the chute after the whole Bush chad nonsense (Like it wasn't before, but at least they weren't blatant about it).

All I have seen in this country politics- wise has been deception, division, indecision, confusion, name calling, and nothing having to do with the people... EVERYTHING having to do with money and control. It's been far, far worse since 9/11 and now this president, who has muddied the works by his promises and (possibly) even having the rumor started about his birth certificate. NONE of us has much of an idea what goes on behind closed doors in DC. A lot say they might, but...

We need a NEW govt, and the Constitution stripped back to the bare levels in 1776, and we need to just simply start over.

I haven't looked into this too much yet - it's early - but it certainly is interesting.
I can't form an opinion without more information, but it has the feel of a "Kenyan Birth Certificate" popping up out of the blue after all this time. So, let's say that I'm skeptical.

That said, I can't make a judgment about it yet. There are several possibilities and from those I have my suspicions of what the truth is.

Possibilities:

1. It's true. Obama was indeed born in Kenya and there's been a massive effort to stamp out all mentions of it for many years... But they missed one.

2. Africa called him "Kenyan-born" because his father was from there. I know it's a stretch - I fully admit that - but the Africans I know have a pride and almost nationalism that would cause them to say such a thing, even if he wasn't actually born there. They consider him a "son of Kenya", just the same as if he were born there.

3. In his youth, Obama, a young man trying to make his place in the world, thought it would be "cool" to claim to be from Africa. In other words, he lied to someone about it.

4. The guy who wrote the article didn't get his facts. He messed up Obama's name, why couldn't he mess up his birthplace?

5. It's a total Hoax, manufactured recently to boost the birther movement and planted by someone who has the means.

I've got to disagree there.

I don't think showing the long form now will do much of anything at this point. No, I believe that ship has sailed.

You show it now and most birthers will suspect it as fake and doctored at this point. I wouldn't blame them for thinking so either at this stage of the game.

No I think the time for showing a long form birth certificate and having it do anything of substance to stop debate on circumstances of his birth have long since passed.

Just like a certain grassy knoll has attached itself to JFK's legacy... so too shall this birth certificate follow Obama's name through history. Especially in places like ATS.

... This is somehow evidence? Can anybody here explain how this evidence again??

Merriam-Webster, "New World Dictionary":

an outward sign : indication; something that furnishes proof

Satisfied?

This.... this here shows us how low the Obama-ineligibility movement has gone. This is certainly a text books definition of desperation.

Oh my God!

Someone would stoop so low as to cite a nationally-published newspaper. (Which, according to the Federal, and most states' "Rules of Evidence", is self-authenticating)

Your "surprise" and indignance are " text books definition of desperation," aren't they?

I was thinking that too about how his opponent was exposed in a sex scandal. That totally reeks of powerful behind the scenes manipulation. I'm sure the republican was committing sex scandals, but "they" only want controversy to surface when they want it to.

i fail to see how a group that rejects the short form - will accept a long for produced by the very same people wh produced the short form - from the long form

I lived in Illinois then. It was common knowlege that it was Chicago dirty tricks, as usual.

No one batted an eye. Then again, Chicago/Illinois is a deeply democratic state so it was normal for them.

For those saying that they'd like to see the original AP article, I found this link to the Associated Press archives. The only thing is that you have to register and give more information that I would like (Address, phone number, and things of that sort). If this article is truly from the AP, I'm sure it'd be there.

Something I thought of, is it possible that AP may not be the Associated Press that we're thinking of, but instead some African entity? An "African Press", if you will. I looked in Wiki and it seems that there is an organization called "African Press Organization". Perhaps in Africa, they say "AP" when referring to this organization? I just thought it was weird that the normal AP byline wasn't at the top of the article but just "—AP" at the bottom.

Maybe you all want to spam the federal building email account with this clipping as well as ALL the news stations, and radios shows. Maybe then it would garner some limelight, but I expect it to be taken down rather sharpish and quickly swept under the carpet of whitewash.

This piece was emailed to me yesterday by an associate who was once a lead researcher for a news organization, and is still wired-in. So mainstream news is at least aware of it, and digging in.

I've also contacted a former friend who spent time working on the archive.org core spidering and cataloging technology to find out of something like this can be injected into the database out of chronological order -- meaning, can something like this be back-dated to appear in 2004 on the archive.

More info as I have it.

And this proves what? Its another personal assumption from another author of another newspaper. This is somehow evidence? Can anybody here explain how this evidence again?? You have an Hawaiian state authenticated short form birth certificate sitting online and yet you fellas continue to search and believe what somebody else says? Is it that easy to convince you?

This.... this here shows us how low the Obama-ineligibility movement has gone. This is certainly a text books definition of desperation.

That is a great post, however I can promise that the spin on this will be that the article was in error over President Obama's place of Birth. Never mind that at that time no one bothered to try and correct the record.

People, people, people.

It's all part of the vast right wing conspiracy.

-oops- dang, did I say that out loud?

Now I'm gonna get one cheesed off phone call from Karl Rove.
