Students refuse to enlist due to 'occupation'

www.ynetnews.com

Traditional letter signed by high school seniors slams Israel's 'oppressive policy in occupied territories'

"We Jewish and Arab teens from throughout Israel hereby announce that we object to Israel's oppressive policy in the occupied territories and within the state of Israel, and therefore we will refuse to take part in these activities, which are carried out in our name by the Israel Defense Army," says the letter, signed by 80 students.

"The occupation has led the Israeli army to viola

This is a VERY important movement these people have been fighting for quite some time now it seems.

Looks like the children are the future in many ways.

But then when you look at the comments on the bottom of the page on that site it's simply disgusting and repulsive to say the least.

Some people are so blind I just cannot believe it.

But still, seeing these kids realize the wrongs of an oppressive occupation is surely a shinning light in the face of darkness.

I wish them luck and hope that their members continue to grow and grow and grow.

This is fantastic to see. Not surprising that it is the youth of Israel both Jewish and Arab who can see through the myriad web of lies that Israel threads on their own people and the international community.

I'm sure it won't last and they will be censored and lamponed by the more extreme parts of Israeli community (both Jewish & Arab) But it at leasts proves that some people are serious about peace in the region and that it is possible for the two peoples to live together and side by side.

Excellent thread I appreciate You posting it. Hopefully, many of Our JIDF fellow ATSer's will realize that maybe they need to stop, and think who they are supporting. They should be supporting these brave youths.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh they're just racist.

Who/What are you talking about? Can you give a little bit more information about what you mean? I don't see how anyone is being racist here.

These high-school students seem to be fed up with the violence and are taking a stand for human rights. I wish them luck and hope they help bring peace.

I think he was being sarcastic hence the smileys

usually when someone, even the jewish Goldstone from the UN report, says that Israel is commiting acts of war and/or is oppressing through occupation or anything critical, supporters of the Israeli govt. will call such people anti-semites.

So i'm pretty sure it was sarcasm

Nice one. This is the way it should go when people disagree with their government, civil disobedience. When the ones that have to go in the army refuse to go it creates the solution of that problem.

Yes, it was sarcasm.

You can't say anything bad about Israel without bringing down the wrath of the brainwashed Fox Watchers, who immediately call you out for being racist.

Obviously we are all being racist when we get on Israel for what it does, since Israelis themselves are even protesting their country's actions. "Self-hating Jews."

What would happen to the almighty state is Israel if they didn't have a forced conscription program anyway? Would their mighty invincible army fall? Or would their prophecy sve them once again? I often wonder about these sorts of things after a few dozen vodka sours.

Kudo's to those kids! The younger generation in Israel must not have a video game in one hand and a Big Mac in the other.

Hopefully this is the first stage towards some peace there at last. Israel do need to compromise for a future for both sides.

Those kids are showing real courage but mark my words they will suffer for their compassion and be called
traitors, communist, terrorists sympathizers, wacko socialists, treehuggers, hippies, drug addicts by the same people that worship war in any military/industrial economic country.

It takes courage to engage the status quo. long live the www.

I'm waiting for some dolt to come in and defend Israel on this one. It must be taking them a while to create some propagandist work of art.

Anyway, it's good to see this.

I would rather hope they don't. Every time one of that group joins one of these threads, a perfectly calm and interesting conversation is detroyed and turned into a hate slinging contest. As Sancho said.. the JIDF at it's best (little bit of sarcasm there, just a dash)

I think Israel is going through a phase right now, not unlike the United State's phase during the past 8 years. You know, the "Patriot Days", "You're with us or the terrorists." phase. Rather similar, but a little different.

Anyway, the US still has this problem and it's still significant, but it's not nearly as crazy as it was during the "Dixie Chicks" era..

Just to clarify yet again, my first post on this thread was sarcasm.

I called the students mentioned in the OP racist, which was (obviously, at least to me) intended as ironic since the students themselves are both Jewish as well as Muslim, as mentioned in the article.

Is everyone who dissents against Israel racist?

Obviously not.

The race card seriously needs to go, along with anyone party to it. We are more mature than that, one would HOPE.

It’s funny how stories like this get little attention or play in the press. It’s encouraging to see though and sometimes that’s all some people sitting on the fence need is a little encouragement to go the same way.

The Orthodox Jews are already exempt from fighting in the Israeli Defense Forces for religious reasons. Mainly that they don’t believe there is anything remotely Hebrew about the Zionist leadership that has kidnapped the Israel State and taken control of it.

If what was happening to the Palestinians was actually happening to the Jews the Jews themselves would be screaming night and day for intervention, reparations, and the return of stolen property, equal rights, grants, charity and everything else.

But because the state of Israel is the oppressor for some reason the moral ambiguity is just completely overlooked to entire peoples and their way of life’s detriment?

There is something sinisterly wrong with the world we live in!
