Make no mistake, this great man really deserves his prize. We must not overlook his outstanding achievements in the field of scientific lying and distinguished bla bla. Isn't he truly the best ever in this regard, surely worth of the Nobel Prize?

.... following in the sublime footsteps of other Nobel Prize winners and peace advocates like Yasser Arafat (Nobel Peace Prize 1994)

IMO he is being setup to fail.

Then he set himself up for failure, he made the promises, no one twisted his arm, all politicians make promises they know they can't keep,

I despise them.

Exactly .. all politicians make promises they know they can't keep. They all say they will make the world a better place so this certainly does not deserve a Nobel prize. But now he has been put under pressure to follow though where most politicians would just forget what they said and go do whatever they wanted. No one expects them to actually achieve what they say they are going to achieve but poor old Obama is just falling into a no win situation if he accepts the prize.

I hope he can do what he says he wants to do but he is going to look a right failure if it doesn't happen.

I think this whole thing has accomplished one thing and one thing only:

Bringing down the importance & prestige associated with winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

Even Obama's biggest supporters can't muster much enthusiasm except to say: "I hope he lives up to it." Which is entirely different than saying he deserved it.

This is though the kind of stuff that leads people to the extreme -- things like he's the anti-christ and what not. I can almost (not quite) understand where they're coming from. The guy comes out of nowhere, becomes President, seals his entire past, upends the entire US, steam rolls right over the critics without so much as pausing to show he understands their concern, etc....and now we can add "Nobel Peace Prize Winner?!" It is freaking crazy. It reminds me of these quotes from Obama's campaign:

"... a light will shine through that window, a beam of light will come down upon you, you will experience an epiphany ... and you will suddenly realize that you must go to the polls and vote for Obama" - Barack Obama Lebanon, New Hampshire.
January 7, 2008.

"This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal."

-- Barack Obama

Bottom line is that I think this HURT the Nobel Peace Prize more than it HELPED Obama.

It has been awarded to him, yes.. telling those who disagree with it to 'get over themselves' is also petty and child like.. No matter what Obamas job is he has done nothing to deserve such a highly regarded award..as a previous member stated, its simply ridiculous for someone to win such an award based on things they may accomplish..until he actually does something in office worthy of this award (which none of us have yet seen), many will continue to feel it was wrong and that it cheated another, probably more worthy person out of recieving it.

That would make him the messiah then, wouldn't it?

The only 'cool' part of that statement is then at least he will become a religious figure and I can use the "It's against my religeon to listen to him..." bit. It would be cheaper than moving out of the country....

Thanks.
But I was only stating what I thought was obvious, even to his most ardent supporters.

I would shudder with embarassment if someone tried to give me an award, and I had done nothing to earn it. Some folks don't have sufficient modesty to decline something for nothing I guess.

This Nobel prize awarded to Obama for accomplishing nothing but promising hope and change is just another example that he is being setup as a fall guy.

Something is getting ready to happen and he will be the one that will be blamed.

I'm really surprised blacks of all people have not been able to read into what is going on here.
Blacks have always been dead on at detecting suspicious behavior and activities, a keen sense that has been developed over the years of not trusting the white man, but this time they got caught up in the hoopla of electing the first black Prez that they let their guard down.

I could not agree more. In my mind it has cheapened the Noble Prize. I suppose I have had to come to the realisation that even this is rigged.

And to everyone that said he coud have declined the prize I also agree. That would have made him more of a man in my eyes.

....and that is your opinion. It is evident that the committee who makes this selection differs with you. You don't want to accept it.

But there it is. Get over it.

It becomes clear that this thread is simply another Obama bashing thread. As if there is not already enough.

Recreational hatred, whining, and negativity. Have fun, guys.

My first reaction to this news was shock and horror. "What a travesty," I thought.

Then I started thinking...well, who else could have received it instead? I can't think of any deserving names off the top of my head; can you? (serious question).

That doesn't mean Obama deserves it...but lets face it, the last year has been a grim one for most people on this planet. It seems like everywhere you look, people are covering their own hides rather that helping their fellow man.

The nobel Peace prize is a strange thing. Sometimes they give it to world leaders, sometimes to people who seem to act more locally and in less influential ways. Its hard to understand the criteria.

Perhaps they should have left it blank this year...that might be the most eloquent statement they could have made.

I dont care what you THINK he accomplished or what you think he WILL accomplish or the grounds people PRESUME he got this award under.

The bottom line is he HASNT done anything to deserve this award and as far as we can see NOTHING in any of his campaign speeches even if they were to come to fruition would be deserving of this award....

You know who deserves this award?

Teachers in muslim countries who are fighting extremism, teaching young children in schools and showing them theres another way besides terrorism and crime.

Aid workers in Africa who are feeding thousands and setting up hospitals to deal with the aids epidemic, dodging HIV and bullets from militant waring factions.

Spiritual leaders be it christian, mormons, catholics, etc in Eastern regions risking hostage situations to bring medical aid and food to people who cant get it themselves.

The lone man and wife who have spent 5 years in a country just to bring them fresh water so they can live and be healthy.

People who actually ARE DOING something, people who HAVE done more things than this man will EVER accomplish.

And they did it all in anonymity, not asking for anything in return.

You want to give that prize to someone, and have it mean something, give it to them. Atleast then the money will go towards helping people and furthering the "peace" movement.....

....instead of to some b.s. union in the US, or another damn vacation for the "new money" in the whitehouse.

Have fun, guys.

No, it's no fun at all to have such a "President".

simply another Obama bashing thread ... whining, and negativity.

"Bashing"? "Whining"? "Negativity"? No. It's a civic duty to criticise a President who spits on the constitution on a daily basis, who spits on most of his voters, who spits on the major part of the population, whose lies actually dwarf those of G.W. Bush, and ... and ... and ... and. Do you really want me/us to repeat some more of all these deplorable FACTS? Why are there so many threads on these issues? Because there are so many REASONS for it.

Does this mean by obama winning the Nobel Peace prize he can now continue

to reduce our nuclear arsenal that has kept us safer then not having them

stockpiled?

Does this mean that obama can continue more gun control in our country and

eventually confiscating all our guns?

This would be done in the name of Peace because this is why the 5 member

Nobel Peace Prize voted for him. This would have our enemies blessings as

well. Isn't wonderful now that we can trust 7 billion people not to argue and

war with each other. ^Y^

I am in wow at the blindness. this has nothing to do with Obama bashing, if someone else equally as unworthy of this award had won it people would still not find it acceptable! The bottom line is the award use to hold a certain prestige that has now been...well... tainted really.. and further more, i have heard from many people who LOVE Obama that also dont understand why it was awarded to him for things he has not done... so no, sorry to point out the wrongness there but its not just the 'anti Obama' people on this. Also, no i really dont care who won it, but something seems awfully dodgy about this..as a previous comment said and i tend to agree, its further evidence that hes being set up as a fall guy for a much bigger agenda. Take care.
