I'm all for it. For ages we've had aliens that look kind of like insects, other humans, praying mantises, reptiles, little green and blue men...I think we're seriously past due for a cat-person alien.

The humanoid form of a cat is a Human. Cats are mammals, when they evolve, they evolve into apes, and then humans.
We already are the closest we can get to cat people. We are the humanoid form of mammals. We lose our claws, sharp teeth, etc when we gain arms and legs.
