He is a dictator in the making. He wants to mandate everything in society. While preaching the words hope and change, he is trying to put everything under government control. Look at all the mandates he preached about while running for office. Look at all the mandates he is trying to put into place now.

(1) Mandated healthcare
(2) Mandated levels for executive pay.

Just to name a few.

Has anyone noticed the sudden presence of new members, generally lacking any profile information, posting blatantly false information, claiming myths as “FACT”, and even going so far as to make unfounded accusations against other members critical of the Barack Obama administration and its policies?

New members? Seriously?

Sorry to say it, but Your a new member, and yes ATS has seen much change over the years.

Your thread churns the same muck that many of us older ATS members dont even bother to read.

Did you run a statistical analysis on the new members with no profile information compared to the old members? What defines new?

In reviewing your membership profile, you joined right before the election, in Sept of 08 and many of your posts are in regards to slamming Obama.

Who again are these new people your speaking of? Yourself?

Peace

I be one of the DISINFO AGENTS you so speaketh of! I come bearing gifts of gold, bulls**t and myrrh. Who dare question the validity of what I claim! Blarrgarrrh!

On a more serious note, a lot of things Obama is doing are not new. Just more than has been done before, i.e. czars, propaganda, disinfo agents everywhere.

P.S. hope I haven't offended the OP or anything. I am, merely, a little bit intoxicated right now.

Frankly, so what? Political parties and ideologies have made use of any and all forms of media and communications forever.

Why should there be any outrage or surprise about this? Isn't it really a great big "DUH" moment?

Are you suprised or just annoyed that people challenge your views?

If you think its bad now you should have been here 2-3 years ago to see all the right wing propaganda spewed...yeah it was REALLY BAD!

In all honesty I don't mind having an intellectul argument with anyone as long as the poster makes sense and is not overly offensive/insulting.

Hmmm...

I have to say, based on some of the things that I have read/saw/heard about this administration... I wouldn't put it past them. After all, what other President has ever asked Americans in a speech to "turn in" other Americans who are spreading "false claims"?

Then there is the media bill that has been proposed.

I wouldn't put it past them.

And that is bad? Why?

I rather have the government control everything rather than fortune 500 companies and/or secret banking cartels ANYDAY! It seems some people are above the law and wanna keep it that way.

The same people that are calling chavez in venezuela and kim jong in north korea dictators are also calling obama the same. Yeah I see your twisted point of view and I don't like it one bit!

Because this is the United States, not Europe. You want Socialism? Move to Europe. Or head on down to Venezuela.

My money is my money. It's not your money. It's not Congress' money. And it's not Obama's money to redistribute to useless oxygen thieves.

Yeah I see your twisted point of view and I don't like it one bit!

Trust me, if Obama has any "disinformation agents", ATS will be the *last* place they'll come to spread their lies. The reason I say this is because we ATS members are already doing a remarkable job of spreading disinformation. There is no need for anyone to come here and add to that.

See, this forum is free to discuss just about any conspiracy theory. For any theory, there are dozens of sub-theories. Take 9/11. OK, there's the standard explanation, then there's the notion that the government did it, then there's the idea that there were no planes involved, that thermite was used, that the planes were holograms, the NWO did it, the Illuminati, the Russians, that it was missiles, and so on. I haven't actually seen anyone claim it was done by aliens, but it wouldn't surprise me to hear it. Maybe the truth is in there somewhere, but there is absolutely no way to ever know *which* explanation is closest to the truth.

Same with Obama. There are so many different claims about him, good and bad, that there is no way to know which, if any, happen to be true. Fortunately, most people don't actually care. They have their axe to grind, their special agenda, and mostly refuse to be swayed by facts or other opinions.

No, what we're seeing here is not "disinformation agents", unless you want to count uninformed ATS members as "disinformation agents". Our own members do so much to muddle the truth that there is no need to call for outside help.

Look at recent posts. Several members were freaking out because we were slamming a 2-ton object into the Moon. Two tons. There were actually members afraid that the Moon might be seriously damaged or destroyed by this. There were claims that the crater would be 5 miles wide and eject material 60 miles into space. Someone claimed that we were bombing the Moon with a 2 megaton bomb. All of this hysteria could have been avoided by checking a few facts and working out a bit of math. Oh, and a bit of common sense.

The problem is, when there are constant hysterical alerts like this, it desensitizes us to the occasional legitimate concerns that arise. It's the "boy who cried wolf". Too many fase alarms, and you wind up ignoring the real ones, too.

There is enough nonsense being written about Obama, both good and bad, that it is impossible to discern the truth. We've got people thinking he's St. Obama, and others thinking he's the Antichrist. The truth is somewhere between those extremes. Where? I don't know, but I'm betting he's basically human. But with all the chatter, there's no need to waste time with disinformation.

The Truth is out there, but we'll never find it among all the lies, half-truths, and downright nonsensical stuff it's lost in, like a needle in a haystack.

Do you know what this country would be like without the social services? There would be tent cities and large parts of the populous living in the dirt. America would be unrecognizable. Just because we offer social services does not make us a socialist country!

How about all the old folks who require care? Does the fact that we care for them make us a socialist country? How would healthcare reform really be any different? Obama is not a dictator, nor is he the antichrist. He is however the people’s choice and like it or not that means something in America regardless of any agendas that try and put it in a different light.

Obama makes Bush look like Satan himself, and I for one am grateful that insufferable idiot is out of office. As the economy sank bush made more and more tax cuts while he increased spending time and time again. You hate Obama because of the legacy/trouble he inherited. What choice did he have but to bail out the economy that Bush allowed to crash. Don’t blame Obama for that tyrants mess.

We need the social services. Without them America would have never become the country you are used to. I personally would like to see those who need medical care get that care, and that does not make America a communist/socialist country.

I seriously think that your post is the best here and should be the closer for this thread.

This is a great place to bounce around ideas, see what else is out there and maybe learn something (rarely) new. Most people here are logical and coherent to have a discussion with. There is always that minority that scream and shout and just run around with their heads on fire.

First of all, I personally don't think that the government, the FBI, the NSA, NASA, and many other agencies, could give a flying rats butt about a site like this. Considering that half the folks here are intelligent and have thought-provoking ideas... but the other half believe that politicians are reptilians, and that we are all going to die in 2012 because of a special invisible brown star, this site is not going to be considered a serious threat anytime soon.

And second, it's common practice to call anyone a disinfo agent if they disagree with your stance. I myself, even though I've just tried to voice common-sense, have been called a disinfo agent on both UFO and 9/11 agendas. Yup.. they keep me busy. When I don't have my normal day job.

You may have read my post a little too broadly.

I come here precisely because I expect oppostion.

It's the posts that add nothing to a thread, make blatantly false claims, and fail to provide sources that make me suspicious.

I didn't see that a year ago. People actually had well-thought out arguments and weren't afraid to cite a source, regardless of whether the source itself could be criticized.

At least they weren't just making things up "out of wholecloth."

As for necessity, someone observed that while many threads can be dismissed by their titles, some might contain the basics of positionsthat might soon appear in the MSM.

Even blogs have their role. "Drudgereport" is still essentially a blog, and was a blog when it broke the Lewinsky scandal. They have value; it's just a matter of degree.

I have no problem with opinions of any sort.

But posts claiming falsehoods as fact, without support, add no value to a thread. They serve to disrupt at best, and to create the basis for acceptance if repeated frequently enough.

ATS didn't have this problem a year ago.

One has to realize that the new media is the internet through the blogosphere. With unemployment at 20%, people are not bothering with the bull# MSM propaganda wing anymore and getting the real news. So of course they have invested money into false posters and commentors. My guess it is their employment plan. They will need at least 500,000 trolls to make a difference. Where has all the stimulus money gone?

I have made a thread about this sort of thing, but from the other perspective. I don't think there are disinfo agents here.

there is too much name-calling. I want some damn names and proof that they are disinfo agents otherwise it's just speculation. the only backbone this conspiracy has is the fact that the internet can be used by anyone. Kind of too general and vague, no?

edit: however, I still don't think I would be surprised if there were a few on here.

edit 2: also not to say that you are name calling or anything of that sort.

Being a new member and at risk of being called a disinfo agent
I would like to remark on some of the OPs original points.

From a new members point of view (or from mine anyway)

I found this site by accident, as I am sure a lot of others did. I was always interested in Mayans and what not and would google myself around various sites reading what I could find. I would stumble over conspiracy theories read the odd Icke book and enduldge in 2012 prophercies.

Well, you know how it goes, one theory leads to another and to cut a very long story short, I end up here.

My first impression was 'this is great, these people seem very intelligent and I have all my answers in one place.

Now going back to the OPs points.

I have a lack of profile I know but these is for a couple of reasons.

1. Being new to this arena it is quite intimidating, My first thought was, I wont give to much info as I don't know who any of these people are. Judging by some of the threads I would have the MIB knocking at my door just for logging on! Just a joke but Im sure you see my point

2. I must admit I've been a bit of a lurker but again some of the replies to threads are very agressive and whilst I understand that the ephos of ATS is to find the truth and out the false it does take some getting used to - I still am getting used to it.

3. I haven't started a thread yet because I don't believe I have anything to say that hasn't been covered. Many member have been researching this stuff for a long time! That is clear. I feel Ive got some catching up to do before I can credibly contribute to this community (there is so much to absorb)

4. My profile does look scarse but wow! Some of the pictures on the profiles/avatars are amazing - My ugly mug just wouldn't cut it so Photoshop here I come :-)

Oh and another point is that Im here because there is a lot more information floating around the net now than there was even a year ago. People are stumbling over links and are finding interesting reading. Its like a whole other would on these kind of sites - some of us were not aware of how deep this whole conspiracy theory idea actually goes so I think new members joining is only going to increase the more information is out there and the bigger ATS grows

That is all my point of view of course but its always worth remembering that everyone if different and like me some people are dignified in their approach, I have always stood back and taken in the environment before making my taking my first cautious step. Its just the way I am I suppose

Maybe your just confusing some of us lefty liberal Europeans with disinfo agents. Many here in Europe held high hopes for Obama after 8 years of Bush, who pretty much scared the sh9t out of us.
