He has done nothing since being in office that warrants this prize. I'm happy for him, but it makes the Nobel Peace Prize seem less legitimate when they give it to someone for literally achieving nothing. Even if you didn't agree with Gore and Carter, at least they accomplished a few things. Obama getting the award right now makes this prize harder to take seriously. Then again, Yasser Arafat won one too.

Wow! This is a surprise! I thought it was a joke at first, too. Of course I'm not as surprised as some of you and mine is a pleasant surprise as opposed to the horror and disbelief that's being expressed here.

As I read the reasons the prize was awarded to him, and because I've been tracking his positive influence in the world, I certainly think he deserved it as much or more than anyone else. It makes complete sense to me. Still, I sure didn't see it coming.

- Obama did nothing to get this award.
- It's based on hype and hope-ium.
- It was awarded by the far left to one of their own.
- It was awarded by foreigners to influence American politics.
- Obama was put in for the award 11 days after taking office and after coming out of nowhere and doing nothing (except hang out with racists and criminals).

If giving a speech that changed zero policy, taking over banks, car companies, spending $9 trillion on bank stimulus with no effect, an strengthening the Patriot Act all qualifies as Peace accomplishments, then we all stand corrected....

Anyway, here's my take - The world has truly "jumped the shark".

He is 10 months into a term in which he has completed nothing. For cripe's sake SNL just made fun of him for exactly that!

This only serves to diminish the Nobel Prize and add to it's modern irrelevancy as well as to add to Obama's celebrity cache'. As a supporter I was already concerned over his penchant for style over substance since taking office. This will seal it, getting awards for nothing.

It's like in high school when the prettiest cheerleader gets voted everything from prom queen to most likely to succeed.

What a stunning comeback as Obama was on the ropes with the whole health care / socialist in his administration / and olympic failure

This is especially stunning as the country that Obama leads is currently engaged in 2 wars and maintains rendition / torture centers all over the globe !

..and this was announced the very morning the the NASA bommbs the moon

Well, considering the europeans dissed Obama so bad over the Olympics, they had to do something to smooze his torched pride. So, a couple of back channel telephone calls, and presto, 1.4 mil, a nice shiny medal, and title of head peacenik for 2009 to boot.

Think he´ll do the right thing and turn it down? I doubt it.

Awesome, so we can win the Nobel Peace Prize for just saying we want to do something? Where's mine? I said we should have peace on the whole world. I even wished for it for Christmas on year! I even had intentions to actually do something about it one of these days... So can I have my award now?

wait a minute how the ****, how do u win the Nobel peace prize when your getting ready to attack Iran in less than a month, sounds like thier trying to raise his rating before he decides to to go into Iran?

In reality, Obama was *probably* nominated before the Feb 1st cut off, probably even before the inauguration, and maybe even before the election.

That being the case, it is even more amazing that he won, since prior to becoming POTUS, he had done absolutely NOTHING to justify being awarded this prize.

Edit to clarify: Not that he's done anything since becoming POTUS to justify it either.

Then again, it's only 5 people who decide...

First I read yesterday that he is allowing the taliban to team up with us in the war on terror in Afghanistan/Pakistan because the taliban said they pose no threat to the west. WTF where have I been did I miss something here? I thought the taliban were half the reason we are over there in this mess? Now he is taking down a Nobel Peace Prize, what is this some kind of sick dream, a bad joke, could it be I am in the twilight zone? Someone please cue the music or slap me in the face.
