Very impressive Transparent Aluminum Oxynitride Dome on the link.
Put a weapons grade laser/phaser behind it?
Go ahead and shoot the weapon. The dome will not melt because of
the very high melting point of the Transparent Aluminum Ceramic?
See link: ALON: Surmet Dome

Also the dome can withstand a direct hit from a small asteroid.
ALON acts as armor also.
How much does a Transparent Aluminum coffee cup cost?

Hell yeah. They need to make glasses out of this..

Now, regarding laser use, would the beam be refracted or concentrated when going through the curve of the dome?

Because it wouldn't exactly be like a lens, would it have any effect whatsoever?

Just a curious mind..

no you likely could not fire a laser through the dome it would refract and relect the beam

and deflecting a small asteroid?

thats a little much

other than that the alon material will revolutionize armor glass applications.

I remeber when this material was first announced, it has taken about 6 years to get it this far.

It certainly is scratch resistant. With a hardness of 1850 (roughly 8.3 on the Mohs scale) it is almost as hard as sapphire which is. 9-9.5 on the Mohs scale or 2200. The only thing harder than corundum(sapphire, ruby) is diamond.
