Very large UFO and inverted-pyramid buildings in China

Topic started on 8-10-2009 @ 12:44 AM by cloudbreak

Hi - I posted a small bit of info on this in a thread some time ago, but not sure where it is. But these pics may be of interest - if not purely from an architectural standpoint - but also from their relation to each other, if such a relation does exist.

These two buildings are currently being erected in China for the world Expo 2010, which will attract hundreds of thousands globally, including foreign dignatories and businessmen etc. These two are China's main buildings, one an inverted pyramid - which will be the China Pavillion, and the second a very large UFO replica, which will be the China Cultural Centre.

Quite an interesting choice of architecture.

Now here is how they are shaping up;

This is from about 3-4kms away:

This is the UFO-building zoomed a bit:

Another angle, a bit closer:

The inverted pyramid - its projected tip forms a perfect level at ground-level:

A bit closer:

And last close-up, note the electric fence:

Anyway, this is just for interest purposes. There were actually men walking on top of the UFO building to give you an idea of scale, even though you can't really make them out in the picture. Heavy security surrounding the workzone, as you would expect, so it is not easy to get too close. It will be great when the buildings are finished.

I wish they would still build cool innovative buildings like that in the US. Those are really cool and unique.

Yeah, there are heaps of very strange buildings in China - some truly out-there designs I often think the architects must have been tripping when designing them.

Well the building in the shape of a UFO is actually a great design. very little wind resistance or geological disturbance, and simply attractive.

Reminds me of the MIB movie ufo disguised as the Seattle space needle or whatever it was.
