Hazmat situation at LDS Vault

www.ksl.com

SALT LAKE COUNTY -- Crews are on the scene of a hazmat situation in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

What's being described as a suspicious white powder was found inside vaults belonging to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

An employee says LDS Church history genealogical files are stored in these vaults.

Around noon today 45 workers were inside the vault. Two of them were moving pallets when they saw the white powder.

They both were exposed to the powder and did get it on their skin, but neither is showing any symptoms.

They were quarantined and the powder was tested.

The LDS church says (www.lds.org...) there is only micro film in there with all their records, where would a white powder come from?

There are a lot of rumors in SLC about underground tunnels connecting the temple and church buildings with this vault as well. Supposedly some of the tunnels are wide enough to drive side by side (two lanes). They have always been interesting to me, anyone want to go tunnel hunting?

Depending on where you enter you might be met with heavy gunfire.

Probably not a good idea. But hey if you go get some pictures please.

...harmless fiberglass powder...

I'm moving boxes. I get this powder all over and start itching like mad. Woulda freaked me out.

My first thought had been Baking Soda to preserve the freshness of the place or eliminate odor.
