What do you do when you are a member of the Ultra-Rightwing Moral "Majority" and your Bible contradicts what you quote?

Rewrite it so that it matches your Ultra-Rightwing Agenda of course!

And that is precisely what the Conservative Bible Project at Conservapedia are doing.

Conservative Group Aims to Delete "Liberal Bias" From the Bible

When your claim of godly authority rests on your interpretation of God's holy word, but God's holy words contradict your desired ends, you're in a bit of a pickle. There is a solution, though: rewrite the Bible and change the liberal bits!

"The insane hubris of this really staggers the mind," writes Rod Dreher at Beliefnet. "These right-wing ideologues know better than the early church councils that canonized Scripture? They really think it's wise to force the word of God to conform to a 21st-century American idea of what constitutes conservatism? These jokers don't worship God. They worship ideology."

I'm not a Christian, but I thought one of the Christian tenets of belief is that the Christian Scriptures represent the Word of God, and were not the Word of Men. I would think that altering the Christian Scriptures would be the greatest form of heresy a Christian could do.

Well, why stop at the Bible. If nothing is sacred, maybe we should rewrite every History Book, Science Book, Biography, Autobiography, et cetera to reflect the Ultra-Conservative Agenda.

At last, I think I've finally heard of everything.

The funny thing is that all of this has already been done. "The victors write history." That is the truest statement ever made.

The Council of Nicea in 325 A.D was nothing more than a ploy to contrive a belief system that supports the status quo. This is no different.

No, wait...

Unbelievable. It's just part of the mudslide that humanity is taking. I can't stop smiling, seriously. Pathetic.

This just cannot be taken seriously.

Yeah the bible has been re-written and changed before this, it is no big deal. You realy think the Kings James VERSION means the same as the King James translation?
If you were listening to me argue to someone in latin and you wanted me to tell you what the other guy was saying. Would you ask me to translate or to give me my version of what the other guy said?
It is not really a big deal. People who do not support it probably will not use it, i advocate voting with my wallet.

Disclaimer - I'm not a Christian or Right or Left....

Maybe they should read their bibles from time to time.

Here is a verse for starters:

Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you. Deuteronomy 4:2

Ye do not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor diminish from it, to keep the commands of Jehovah your God which I am commanding you. -Youngs translation

Now listen, Israel, listen carefully to the rules and regulations that I am teaching you to follow so that you may live and enter and take possession of the land that God, the God-of-Your-Fathers, is giving to you. Don't add a word to what I command you, and don't remove a word from it. Keep the commands of God, your God, that I am commanding you - The message

Krikey, they're gonna have to remove Jesus completely from Christianity. He's far too much of a communist with all that brotherly love, tolerance, sharing and forgiveness.

At least it's a commendable effort to remove hypocrisy from their ideology. Scrap it. This is just too funny and somehow predicable after many discussions. I wonder if they were listening in at the time.

OH oh. Didn't Jesus support the idea that unmarried men should give their money to support orphans, widows and the infirm?

Freakin' Socialist!

I do not think people are seeing what is going on here and are getting the wrong idea. Conservapedia is doing this, not the vatican or any church body. For those of you that use Conservapedia or wikipedia im sure (i hope) that you have learned by now that just because those sites say something does not make it so. If you can organize a group of 10 people you could change any wiki page that you wanted to say whatever you want. So this is not "christinas changing their bible" it is a small gorup making changes to it online.

The whole idea hardly seems conservative. Clearly the hopes go beyond a simple wiki site.

benefiting from activity that no public school would ever allow; a Conservative Bible could become a text for public school courses

And yeah, this one is pretty good:

liberals will oppose this effort, but they will have to read the Bible to criticize this, and that will open their minds

I imagine that it is a joke.

Okay, I *HOPE* it is a joke. I suspect it is a joke. I'm not CERTAIN that there aren't people who would do this though.

They already have the regular bible in public schools, students are told to study the bible as a piece of literature not a religious text. With that in mind they could teach conservopedia in schools but i doubt it. The whole idea of having students study a text that would change drastically over the course of a school year sounds kinda out there for me. Many teachers and professors do not let students use wikipedia as references for writting pappers because of it's constant changing and reliability issues. Conservopedia has the same problems.

Sadly they are not the only ones that had their hand on that cookie jar for centuries my friend.

The so call modern bible is nothing but a shell of its former intention.

Every denomination of religious groups out there had made sure that the "bible" teachings are accommodated to enforce their own doctrines.

Another reason why I don't follow organized religion or follow any religious believes or groups.

Deceptions and more deceptions.
