Hi folks,

For the last few days circumstances fell into place where a couple of the threads I authored happen to have me as the focal point. Now I hear you say "sdog, you always put yourself in the middle of things you narcissistic bastard ... what else is new?"
Fair enough, but this isn't really about that as that will most likely continue to be the case
... this thread being a case in point.

But ...

As a result of some of my recent experiences, some I have shared and some that I may share in the future, I am slowly becoming aware of a slight existential shift. I have always been pretty easy going by nature, but I have also been in a lot of my ATS interactions rather harsh, mocked with intent to belittle, and violently sarcastic. Sometimes I look back at what I wrote, I see why I reacted that way, but cannot see myself being that person any more. I learned not to take things personally a while back but still got frustrated with what I perceived as nonsense and allowed myself and my reactions to be dictated by it. It wasn't a T&C issue btw as most of the time my attacks were passive aggressive in nature and half the time it was veiled with disorienting smileys.

For some or no reason, I feel all of that fading away. I look at my computer screen and even though I feel more connected with those on the other side of it, I see the screen in a different way. It is truly a paradox, by distancing myself in one way it has brought me closer in another.

And I can feel it ... I don't have to consciously try to measure my reaction, the reaction itself has changed. It's kind of a "meh" feeling but without the "meh" of indifference.

I find this kind of stuff interesting. We often differentiate between "real life" and internet life ... those who know me a little know that that line has always been rather blurry with me anyway. But since my presence here and my interactions with you folks is in part the reason for this inner shift i thought I would share it with you.

Mostly, I just wanted to say thank you.

Awakeness is inherent
in all things and all beings
everywhere
all the time.
This awakeness relates to every moment
from innocence
from absolute honesty
from a state where you feel
absolutely authentic.
Only from this state
do you realize
that you never really wanted
whatever you thought you wanted.
You realize
that behind all of your desires
was a single desire:
to experience each moment
from your true nature. *

And yes, that is the way I shall speak from now on.

I'm a little sad about the no more ranting part - I do enjoy hearing a really good rant

so, in the living and learning and becoming more aware of our incredibly annoying selves (that was for me) category - and as far as giving thanks...

you are mostly responsible for making me shut my mouth before I opened it recently

so - thanks!

:-)

edit to add:

It wasn't a T&C issue btw as most of the time my attacks were passive aggressive in nature and half the time it was veiled with disorienting smileys.

in addition to being incalculably wise - you're also funny

Desiderata

-- written by Max Ehrmann in the 1920s --

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

I'm not buying it, wuss.

Reach down and grab a pair and tell us how you really feel. What, are you afraid?

oh, look at the scared little nancy boy.

(is any of this working?)

Stop getting enlightened before the rest of us. Show off.

All hail Mr. Enlightenment....great and powerful is he. Shplechh.
