There was probably behind the scenes questions being asked , as to the probability of the athletes from the asian nations making it past homeland security / airport security, or the whole iranian team being put on a no fly list and missing events , so they shelved it for a more tolerant and hospitable nation.

NO...this is not about disagreeing with Obama...what part of that don't you understand...its all about gloating which is indeed ungracious and mean spirited no matter how you cut it...

the right wing pundits behavior is unseemly just as it would be liberal pundits doing the same thing or anyone else for that matter.

Instead of rooting for their country they root for Obama to fail.

Fine hate Obama...but root for your country.

And NO this nonsense started when Clinton beat Bush senior.

I finally found the thread where I can revel in Obama's failure. I hope his ego can handle it. It was his ego that most likely caused Chicago to go out in the first round. He pitched for Chicago by talking about himself (no surprise) and his election(appointment). He forgot to check his narcissism at the gate in Copenhagen.

Maybe Oprah should have given free cars and cameras and more of her favorite things to the judges. Perhaps some fluffy jammies.

I think Chicago would have been better off if they sent Blagojevich in Obama's place
. The lesser of two evils approach

Thanks for letting me revel
. What a great thread

S&F from me.

edit to add: THis whole pitch was not about our country it was about Chicago. We have hosted our share of the Olympics in the US. Big Deal. I didn't even know about the vote until it was announced that Obama was flying to Denmark to stump for Chicago. This was not a rally for the country. Get that fact straight in your heads.

I will support my country by supporting our troops throughout the world and I will support the US Olympic athletes by cheering for their victory and by donating money to various Olympic training centers in the sports that I support.

The media has gone in to full defense mode for Obama.

Losing the Olympics Bid Is Good for Obama

But ultimately, it’s a good thing for him. As I wrote on Monday, the Olympics are notorious for running massively over budget. The organizing committees are always rife with infighting and power games as all manner of colorful cronies badger members to get their paws on some of those coveted Olympics dollars. Public support for the Olympics in Chicago itself was already lukewarm. Residents would have been facing seven years of disruptive construction and roadwork as their city raced to prepare itself. It’s a recipe for serious disgruntlement.

Shocked TV Journalists Absolve Obama, Insist IOC Rebuke Won't Hurt President

The broadcast evening networks all led Friday night not with the jump in the unemployment rate to 9.8%, but with the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) rejection of Chicago's bid, stories which reflected the premise Chicago lost “despite” or “in spite” of the “star-studded U.S. appeal from Oprah to the Obamas,” while ABC's Charles Gibson absolved President Barack Obama by pressing for confirmation of “some anti-American sentiment here?” and whether “this is seen as a poke in the eye to the President himself or...to the U.S.?” George Stephanopoulos assured viewers

If the President gets a health care bill this fall, if the economy starts to turn around, if he can build an international coalition to take on Iran's nuclear program, none of this will matter.

Friday's CBS Evening News: “Tonight, Chicago hope dashed. Despite a high-powered, star-studded U.S. appeal from Oprah to the Obamas, the Olympics are awarded to Rio.”

Its those damn right winger's fault! I'm amazed that even though Democrats have all the power, the MSM still finds a way to constantly blame everything on Republicans and Republican citizens.

I think Clark Savage Jr. summed it up quite well above. "

Actually, it is more than just conservatives who should revel in *snip* failed bid .

It should be everyone who gives a damn about this nation."

I am not a conservative but I just love it when Americans show obama the same respect he has shown America.

Obama faithful should lighten up. Sure he is your president so maybe you can't see the humor in it. Think about it though, this guy with an ego the size of a 747 goes there with delusions of grandeur and importance thinking he can sway the rest of the world with nothing more than a speech. Not only did he not secure victory but Chicago got the least votes of all. Relax and see the funny side of it.

You certainly don't ask for much, do you?

You're absolutely right, though. Talk about a tempest in a teapot. The only damage that has been done is that a few egos in the Chicago area have been knocked down a notch. Big deal. So what if some of us find the situation amusing under the circumstances? With all of the whining and crying, you'd think that the world was coming to an end, or at the very least, that someone's mother had been insulted.

Thanks for the invite, Grover, but I'll decline your invitation.

You can count me as one of those who take some satisfaction in seeing the GREAT MYSTERY fall flat on his ass, and in tandem with the Wirst Lady.

What an embarrassment.

Presidents are supposed to be above such things. Fifty dollar whores are more respectable.

This is yet another example that illustrates that it's Amateur Hour at the White House.

What a dumbass.

I think you're a wonderful ATS member.

And that if you're a real American you should support our President.

Remember that?

Well, the democrats did a fantastic job of destroying that notion over the last 8 years. Remember?

Actually, yes, I agree with that... at least to some extent. The problem you'll have is in convincing me that his official duties as president involve lobbying for a sporting event to be held in his hometown as a favor to his campaign donors there, all on the national taxpayer's dime.

"Face it, there's nothing he can do that won't be trashed by somebody. They're desperate to see signs of Obama's fall from power and will grasp at straws."

No, that's not true. He would go a long way with me if he would just honor his campaign promises and his oath of office, if he would put America first instead of the globalist agenda, If he wanted America to prosper with the same zeal as he wanted the Olympics, he would have my respect and support. But that's not going to happen. That's why he is your president, not mine.

As an American I support the Constitution and the Republic.

This isn't 20th century Russia.

How am I supposed to respect a POTUS that respects neither?

Obama the celebrity would have made a fine talk show host but as the President he is failing.

Talk is cheap.

Taxpayers shelled out probably $1 million or more for the president, his wife and others to fly to Copenhagen and back to woo members of the International Olympic Committee.

AP

I think there were much better ways to spend a million dollars. What a slap in the face of every American who is struggling in this economy.

Yay party politics.

I don't know about anyone else but I quite frankly am tired of the Republican Bu#! When Bush was president us Lefties complained but we supported our country because we were in it for the long haul.

Now I see republicans acting in a traitorous manner because they do not like the current president and his policies and they will do anything to basically overthrow this administration. These are traitorous act and they should be treated as such. The Patriot act is still in place - we need to start arresting this people who are clearly trying to incite riots and anarchy in America. Glenn Beck and FOX news being the front runners in this Act. The shots of Beck's falseness and his history of unpatriotic speech recently posted that PROVE there is a conspiracy going on here to discredit people at all costs even if there is no proof of illegal activities.

It is time to arrest those people and call it what it is - this activity would not have been stood for 3 years ago and it should not be stood up for now!

I have a question. What do we need the Olympics for anyways? This is the land of major sports. We have the World Series, The Super Bowl, The college bowl series, NBA Championship, Most of the Stanley Cup, Three major golf tourneys, and the US Open in tennis. We don't need the Olympics. We just had them in 96 in Atlanta. We don't need to hog all the major sporting events. Russia hasn't had them since 1980. Everything doesn't have to revolve around the US. We will go where ever it is and stomp the competition for the most part, even though China is giving us a run for our money any more.

These are world games, not USA games. Maybe we shouldn't host them for another 30 years. Let people get used to not having them so when we do host them again people would appreciate having them. We are spoiled with sports in the US.

Here is a news headline in an alternative universe on worldnetdaily.com:

President McCain loses his bid to bring the Olympics to Phoenix;
Unpatriotic Democrats are giddy.

They turned us down because we are broke.

Here is another reason they turned us down:

Summer Olympics in the US since 1900
St Louis 1904
LA 1932
LA 1984
Atlanta 1996

Winter Olympics in the US since 1900
Lake Placid 1932
Squaw Valley 1960
Lake Placid 1980
Salt Lake City 2002

Either Olympics in South America since Adam and Eve

Reference

Besides, they don't respect Obama. Relax. The world didn't respect Bush either.

We just saved ourselves $20 billion AT LEAST and we just stopped a bunch of DC crooks from making millions.

(I deleted some stuff to keep this post from committing a political hijacking of this thread. Proof your work before you post. I'm sure the mods appreciate it.)

There it is! Peace loving liberals calling for the imprisonment of those who they disagree with politically. Watch out folks, because this sort of sentiment is going to become popular on the left and most likely supported by the media.

As I said before, I'm glad that Rio got the Olympics.

The only question I have is, considering the sex and porn industry in Rio, is the IOC going to issue, "How to spot a T-girl without playing The Crying Game" flash cards?
