Gilad Shalit was an IDF soldier kidnapped on the Israel side of the Gaza border by Hamas on 25 June 2006, age 19.

Wikipedia

In exchange for the release of 20 female prisoners (including a would-be suicide bomber) being held in Israeli prisons Hamas have released a one minute video clip to prove that he's still alive.

You can watch it on JPost, here

I'm not sure that prisoner exchanges are the way forward when dealing with kidnappings, as in my view it just encourages more of the same.

I'm also reminded of the hundreds of terrorists that Israel exchanged for the two kidnapped soldiers held by Hezbullah (which led to the 2006 war), and in return they got two corpses in body bags.

I hope this turns out differently if and when he is finally released back to his family.

Have not posted here in a while but this good news! Usually topics that have to do with Israel degenerate quickly but I would think most people would see this as a good thing. I'm sure this brings some relief to his family.
