A tenth grade student once asked me, "When, if ever, is an individual justified in breaking the laws of society?". There were a few reasons that were thought up as possible justifiable reasons which included:

1. Self-defense
2. Survival
3. Enforcing Laws (police officers - although highly debatable)
4. Ambulance (Escorting)
5. Fire Trucks (Emergencies)
6. Rosa Parks (Civil Rights)

Someone once said that sometimes breaking the law is what needs to be done to bring about the kinds of changes that are needed to promote freedom and equal rights. I'm just curious to know what good ideas the ATS community can come up with for this.

It is measure for measure. Even if you don't want it that way. There is no need to think long about right or wrong.

Well, take care.

How about when the law itself, or the application of it in the particular circumstances, is stupid?
Eg. A friend of mine was fined for "Urinating on the Public Highway". Well, obviously we dont want our streets running with piddle, so fair enough, right? He was in the middle of nowhere urinating into a hedge

If I become violent, abusive, deranged, or a thief, all these things are against the law because they mess other people's lives up. Why then should there be any additional law against recreational drug use? Its stupid.
I think most "decency" laws are pretty stupid also. Although it has to be said that there's a little additional spice to be had from breaking them

All laws are null and void when they only apply to the governed.

Nothing more to be said, but I didn't wanna make a one liner.

Dear Mr Knowledge

When considering the Law one has to remember that all laws that were developed over the years are designed to protect them from us.

Any other use of the law that just might benefit others is purely by coincidence.

I think that it's not a matter if laws should be broken. I think that some laws are so broad that makes a wide range of activities that shouldn't be illegal in the first place illegal. It's these things- these petty crimes illegal, or, something silly such as needing a permit to protest illegal that shouldn't need to be followed. I am not advocating for theft. I'm just saying in my view, like gambling under 21 shouldn't be a crime and stuff like that.
