With the concern of the US regarding terrorisiom, why would our govt. even want to consider having the games in the US?
Thousands if not millions (?) of people from other countries go to the olympic games don't they? What restrictions will there be on travel into the US if the games are here? How effective does anyone think it will be?

I think the Olympics bid is a smokescreen. Surely all of the native Chicagoans will be just so happy with all of this. It would seem the plan to lure the Olympics to Chicago has had some legs for quite some time now, maybe even predated Obama's aspirations of becoming the president. The way I see it the government should slap a spending freeze on every state until that state can show it is in the black. The federal spending has to STOP. We are broke. We have no jobs. Our manufacturing industry is in the gutter and energy is just getting more expensive. Obama was elected to rectify the course that this country has been sailing into hell, but it seems he is only trying to expedite the trip. When this country can sit back and relish all the good things we have done for the world and it's people and start giving the people of this great nation some credit for always picking up the ball and running with it. If looking into ACORN and seeing the millions and millions of dollars that are being stolen by a corrupt organization isn't really that big on the presidents radar screen than why the hell are we even talking about the Olympics? How about we Cap our spending and Trade our intercontinental trips to Europe for an e-mail, or even better, we can just pick the host city by lottery or raffle...I mean if our president feels it's our duty to be fair and not put America first then he should let the Olympics go to Rio, it will do a lot more for the people there than it will here.

Would be a good way for TPTB to marginalize some more of our liberties.

Anyways, I think it would be cool to have the Olympics in Tokyo.

The money given to ACORN doesn't even come close to the amount of money given to questionable military contractors over the years. If the president investigate anything, it should be where the billions of missing dollars for the Iraq war went during the last administration.

Anyway, I don't see anything wrong with hosting the Olympics. While it may bring in people from socialistic European countries and Muslims causing widespread panic on the conservative talk shows and e-mail lists(I am not joking, it will happen), there is nothing wrong with investing tax dollars on the Olympics if the pay off is greater than the cost. That pay off could either be monetary or an improvement in our international image.

Oh noes! If we host the Olympic Games in Chicago then we better put on our best attire for the rest of the World.

Since we want the World to think that the Recession is over and America is on the mend economically we better round up all the homeless and poor in Chicago and move them somewhere else, like Pembroke Illinois. The homeless and the poor won't really notice that most of the homes in Pembroke have no running water or electricity.

While we are at it, we don't want the World to think that the Political Climate in America is a divided one either. Therefore, we best make the entire city of Chicago a "Protest Free Zone" and suspend First and Fourth Amendment Rights there during the Olympic Games.

Also, Chicago is an awfully dirty city (no offense Chicago...I love you having more Museums than any other city in the World, and don't forget your great Libraries and Universities. I love Chicago, but let's face it, you are far more grimy than Seattle). We need to pour Billions into Beautification Projects...nothing that a few coats of paint couldn't brighten up. At least it will put some Americans back to work.

Lastly, we need to send a Clear and Decisive message to the World that the United States is tough on Homeland Security. Therefore, we need to put Police and National Guardsmen every two feet in Chicago. We'll have to setup Check Points every 10 feet. We will have our Air Force running visible patrols around the O'Hare Intl. so that no one who attends the Olympic Games will doubt our Military might!

Yeah, all of that sounds like a splendid idea to me. Canz we has Olympics here now?

Oh please. A massive construction project, merchandising and a huge boost to tourism aren't bad things for Chicago or for the nation at large. It WILL create jobs. Get your logic straight.

I mean if our president feels it's our duty to be fair and not put America first then he should let the Olympics go to Rio, it will do a lot more for the people there than it will here.

After you wipe off saliva off your screen and are able to read this, re-read what you wrote. Apart from pathological hate of Obama, there is little else.

Maybe because the "terrorist concern" is totally overblown? The time for xenophobia is over in this country. We are, once again, part of the world. Olympic security will be just fine. Its a world-wide event and I think hosting it sends a message to the world that we are no longer living in fear of every dark-skinned man with an accent that we see.

I think it would be great to have the Olympics here. It would create lots of jobs and hopefully help mend some relations with other countries and show that we are willing to open our arms to our fellow human beings.

What was life like in Salt Lake City in '02? Wouldn't be any worse than that.

Doesn't matter anyway. The games will in all likelihood go to Rio. Brazil is an emerging economic giant and the Olympics will be a way for South America to show itself to the world. With Vancouver hosting next year, I don't think Chicago really has a chance.

As an Illinoisan, I, personally, don't want the hassle the Olympics are going to bring to my neighborhood. I live 45 miles north of the city and it will affect me. Oh yeah, we've entertained ideas of renting out our basement (fully finished with kitchen/bath/BR) for $1200.00 a week. But, when it came down to it, we'd gladly give up that potential earning amount to keep our quiet unincorporated bliss.

I just don't want it here.
But, that's just me.
Go Rio.

I'm a native Chicagoan and I can assure you that a large portion of the population here does NOT want the Olympics here. Every day, more city workers are facing job & wage cuts, while the city has announced it has put aside million so of dollars in a side fund for the Olympics just in case they can't get enough private funding years down the road. That's really a cheap blow when you think about it.

On top of it, we all know just how corrupt our local government is right down to the aldermen, and we know that we as residents will never see any of the so called 'benefit' of having the Olympics here. Actually, we're pretty sure we will see more hardship. We're not going to see jobs.. people with special contracts will, and they'll be hiring family members and illegals. Unless you want to be a cop, you won't see the extra increase in the police presence and so on, all in the meanwhile, people face having their homes bulldozed for these extra parks and facilities through typical county strong arm tactics which they're chomping at the bit for since property values are crap so eminent domain (which Illinois is extraordinarily favorable to) is a pittance compared to what you should receive. . The list goes on and on. All it will bring is more crime, more police brutality, an dmore corruption befor eduring and after these olympics.

well this doesnt really matter, since the USA will be doomed before Omaba is done with it, 2012 is coming also, so thats more icing on the cake, if we make it thought the first Obama term, and possibly get lucky for a second term... by a not rigged system... then we would be having an excellent time!!!

i guarantee you that USA will be selected for the 2016 Olympics, because our tax money will be used to pay off the selectors of the city for the games, this will get everyone excited for sure!!! if we are lucky well get some nuclear fireworks in the next 1-2 years, and have the fallout olympics in radioactive snow ...

im shocked we didnt get the coming up olympics this time ... i mean it would have been perfect timing for the smoke screen, and for the government to do bunch of sneaky things for us as presents... not to mention, the swine flu, oh how perfect that would be... all the people coming from other countries with swine flu to infect us..oh noes!!!

anyways, let the games begin!!!

I just don't think Chicago is a good place to have the Olympic games.

Let Rio have it. Chicago sucks.

Yea, i'd definitely go if it was in Tokyo, imagine what that city will be like in 7 years!

Madrid would also be big one for me, such an epic city, great backdrop for the olympics.

so Michelle Obama went on a 747 to try and get US to be the 2016 olympics... and then Borak took a 727 to fly there the following day... we just spend $1.5 million dollars on fuel alone and for nothing!!... They could have used that $1.5 million to maybe clean up chicaco a bit and get people some shelters...

USA doesnt deserve Olympics, our government doesnt deserve anything, this was in your face Obama!!
