Gore Vidal: ‘We’ll have a dictatorship soon in the US’

I do hope that should a Dictatorship come, they take measures to increase the collective IQs of people.

We deserve it, we need it in some ways, and if its the only way that this nation will be saved, then I support it...but again, with the contingency that the military dictatorship is focused on bringing intellect to the people.

I thought the nightmare would end with Bush, but obviously that isn't the case. It might even get worse, under Obama. It would be no better under McCain.

Your right 100%, I believe that Bush left this country unrepairable, and not just because of his actions, but because of an accumulation of Laws passed, and corruption over a number of years that the public did not know about or simply didn't care enough to speak up about.

Too put Obama at blame for all of this is just naive, and as Gore Vidal put it " Obama would have been better off focusing on educating the American people. His problem is being over-educated. He doesn’t realise how dim-witted and ignorant his audience is"

This to me was more of a diss to the American people than it was to Obama himself.

I will say that I'm with you on that. I already said this in an post, but this was a diss to American people and not to Obama. I would hardly call being over- educated a problem.

The only thing i've seen in this thread is people saying everything is Bushs fault. Guess what people, Bush isn't in office anymore and do you want to know who is??? Obama. Another thing i've seen on ATS is how people will do personal attacks on another person when they don't agree with them. Sad

As an amature futurist; the scenario I see being played out is that the neo-cons never really relinquished power to anyone, especially Obama and the Democrats. That's just an illusion.

Here's another opinion that makes more sense. Both pollitical parties play for the same team. Get over the idea of a political party. They both answer to the PTB, the ruling elite, the enlightned ones, whatever you want to call them.

The majority of congress answer to these groups of people. there aren't enough honest reps to have a tupperware party. Our leaders answer to these elites, that's why nothing ever gets done. When all is said and done, it's the PTB that rule. The only small power we have is a vote, and that may not be around much longer.

Fellow ATS members, do you not see what is happening before your eyes? There is an agenda that is being played out now. The ruling elite have decided that it's the right time in history to make their move, with their people, and their agenda, no matter what the citizens want. it's not a democrat or republican thing, it's a seize control of everything agenda. it's a move to a New World Order. Our leaders have said it publically, alway back to Bush #1. Obama is just a puppet like the rest of them. Why do you not think he has changed everything that Bush #2 did? Do the math, they all play for the same team. They all run by the NWO playbook. That's why things aren't changing as Obama promised. he has taken the reins from Bush #2, and run with the agenda that Bush #2 started. Look at the facts, and not what he says--but what he does.

How much more evidence do you need? Remember, no significant number of congressmen in Washington are playing on the citizens team. The deck is stacked against us as citizens. The Tea party movement is a big indicator of what is to come. things are just beginning to heat up real good. I predict we will see much more demonstrations against the loss of our freedoms, as members from every group and affiliation wake up and smell the coffee.

I fear the government is waiting, and baiting the citizenery up, in order to get them to "fire the first shot" , so to speak. Then the gloves willl come off, and we will have martial law. That's what the government wants, but they need an excuse. if they don't have an excuse, they'll make one.

This scenerio as I have discussed , is just one of many possibilities. When joe six pack has lost his job, run out of unemployment assistance, lost his house, can't pay his taxes, had his car repossessed, can't afford groceries, has to sign up for food stamps, can't get a new job----he doesn't have anything else to lose. Sooner or later, this group will focus on the blood sucking vampires that got us where we are. They know who to blame. Things could get interesting. I don't think we have long to wait till the next act starts.

Well, Bush did start a lot of the trouble we're in now. Obama just came into office with a lot of the weight on his shoulders. Sadly, he's not fixing it in the economic sense...nor the war department.

I think he's right on the money.

Thanks to alternative news sources and the internet, history will for the first time not repeat itself. It might seem like it's going to be the same, but the end result will not.

I was listening to one of the Austrian Economics lecturers, maybe Schiff, on youtube, and he examined Bush's policies. One of Bush's policies was to help get everyone into home ownership, so he encourages the FED to inflate the money supply. So what happens? Capital starts piling into the housing market, inflating prices to absurd levels. The housing bubble collapses.Instead of letting market forces correct things, the FED again, now under Obama, inflates the money supply to soften things. Not only that they finance more bailouts and stimulus.

I was puzzled by Bush pushing the Iraq intervention and Congress let this happen. I understood Afghanistan. But this is deficit spending, added to the above, plus Obama proposed new spending in the health care which will be more deficit spending. Where is all this money going to come from. Higher taxes on the rich barely pays for this.

So all this capital, that could have gone to the people who create jobs is redirected to the government and disbursed by government plan. What did the investment bankers do instead of loaning money to industry? They bought mortgage backed securities.

So I just wanted to point out that FED and government policies have screwed up the economy.

Now if you are a socialist hell bent on destroying capitalism, the job is being done. I'm pretty sure liberals just want to get people health care. How is that possible without making things worse?

From my days back in the war on poverty, the clients almost unanimously wanted a job with benefits rather than anything from the government. I was in finance and could see that the government would never have enough money to help people.

I think the founding fathers wanted limited government because to maintain low costs and they were also afraid of the power of big government. They wanted freedom and a free market. Special interests have always lobbied for protection or cartels or tariffs or central banking. History shows the bad effect of all of the schemes. Government should protect our freedoms, pass fair laws and regulations as necessary and that is about it. The biggest trouble in the history of the country are the big bankers. The Austrians cover this issue quite well.

If you are a liberal with destruction of the free market and capitalism in mind with the belief in big government, then you are going to have major problems with conservatives of all types and perhaps centrist democrats.

If you want to understand where conservatives are coming from economically, Austrians economics is it. Like libertarians, these economists are not big on war or government spending, because government spending has consequences and improperly directs capital. They are also not fond of the FED and attribute boom and bust to the FED policies.

So I didn't write any of this to knock liberals or democrats, and I can look at Republican policies that are/were wrong. Let's say you get the health insurance thing passed. Is it going to create a job for that person. I don't think health insurance alone is going to help you much if you don't have work or a home. How are we going to pay all this foreign debt we have accumulated without an industrial base? If you understand the economics you might not say we are protesting because we are racist or backwards.

I think the free market can do a lot to solve employment and health care insurance issues, but it you don't believe that, I don't know what to say other than how is the big government we have doing? I'd say not very well at all. Either party trying to steer this huge mess is just making it worse.

Thru his mother, not his Kenyan father. Also Gates, and many other top officials in our govt. gang. It is called Nepotism. And they rely on foolish public thinking that they are enemies. I certainly understand that the differences between the two parties is as wide a nanoparticle. It is a matter of which direction you want to redistribute the money, up? Go with the GOP. Down? Go with the dems. Either way, unless you are one of the elites you a slave to either a) corporations or b) the government.

Obama is not related to Bush, btw, he's related to Cheney!

Gore Vidal is right however, we are heading to a dictatorship. Who started the process, I don't claim to know. [edit to add that I think this process has been long and most likely began accelerating with LBJ and Nixon] But GW Bush, as another poster mentioned, accumulated laws and rigged enough rules (or simply ignored them) to allow the Executive the ability to do whatever they want. Obama, promising change to gain office, has grabbed the "one ring" (to steal from Tolkien) and now realizes that he does not want to relinquish that power.

warrenb, I know I'm new to posting here (been reading for a little while now though) and you post very well put together threads; it's en easy interface for everyone so we will stay interested and read what there is posted. So kudos to you - keep up the good work! I'm trying my best now to contribute as much as possible; searching online for privately run news websites/videos backed up by good sources, the actual facts (for the most part, no one is perfect) seem to be well thought out and used correctly. There seems to be some good reporters over on the source which is TheRealNews.com, I would consider bookmarking the website, regardless if you like this video or not, they have "Breaking News" which is placed in order of date/time, so it's a good source to see the facts on breaking stories around the world (it's not a US only site, it covers everything, everywhere).

Okay, sorry for the rambling, hope you all listen to the video and take in what it has to say, I felt like I agreed with most of the video myself, I liked the metaphore used to describe Obama, which is "he is a vampire," and it's used more than once in the video.

By the way, I'm new to making thread (obviously, I finally joined this month) so please be light on me with the criticism, constructive criticism is fine with me, I would like to hear if this is something that people want to hear/see so I know for future reference what everyone likes for the most part when it comes to new threads. I appreciate any and all opinionsl, thank you.

I'm constantly amazed how short people's memories apparently are.

I don't agree - Nobody wanted Bush assassinated because then Cheney would be president and we would be under martial law right now - I would agree however that the thought of Cheney being nixed did have a certain appeal to it.

But back to the post - America has been getting dumbed down ever since Reagan and daddy Bush were in office - that is when I remember most of the educational system was being unfunded and religion was allowed to have a stronger voice in politics with the exception of Nancy who liked the fortune tellers.

There is a growing population of uneducated children in America and that will be Our Downfall - just look at Bush's successful dismantling of the middle class! The middle class was what made America Unique and successful and helped make a strong military ( I myself do lean left of center - because after all - left is 'right' and right is 'wrong') but I Support a STRONG military used justly - not like the last 8 years when it was used for purposes of 2 men with small privates trying to act like they had Real balls. They abused all Americans with their private war and privatization of public services. They put the final nails into Americas current downward spiral and people like Murdoch who has his own private agenda for America is perpetuating it.

There is a lot wrong at the moment and no one with the real balls that it takes to solve the problems - we need Obama to be the opposite of Bush and just steamroll everything through to change America and to get the Democrats in line by any means necessary.
