As an amature futurist; the scenario I see being played out is that the neo-cons never really relinquished power to anyone, especially Obama and the Democrats. That's just an illusion.

However soon a faction of right wing military personnel will stage a coup and install their man in the Whitehouse. This will be the dictator and the resurgence of Fascism in America, started by the Bush administration;
Completely dedicated to the continuance of Corporate rule ala the Military/Industrial complex.

It's a brave new world, welcome to the monkey house!

Oh goodie, let's play blame the right! That way we won't unify on anything and never pose a significant threat to change those actually in power screwing us over.

I just want to show him, and every other member who claims "Christians are ignorant" that they believe in "creatio ex nihilo", or the theory of creation out of nothing, which is a Christian/Catholic belief which Abbe Georges Lemaitre proposed trying to reconcile science with St. Thomas Aquinas' theological dictum of creatio ex nihilo.

That's why, and how the Big Bang theory came about. Yet, most scientists, even those who are not religious, believe in this theory, and this is what is being taught in schools.

Those who keep claiming everyone but themselves are ignorant should take a look in the mirror first before throwing stones at other people because of their belief.

You should take a look in a science book.

Hair brained theories on the internet (IE, the electric universe) don't count.

Agreed, but it's always the loudest ones that get the coverage. That and the MSM has their own agenda. And none have been more blatant about it than MSNBC and FOX. While MSNBC is busy paying their pundits to call all conservatives racists, they are missing the point in that religious zealotry in this country is more pervasive than race, and FOX would be the window into that perspective.

I swear the left is trying to start a race war and the right is trying to start a religious war, and where these two paradigms meet I do not know..But I do know nothing good can come from it.

hahaha! a very important life lesson here folks.

while serving in the army several years ago i always thought to myself, "people in the army are so freaking stupid."....and i would immediately look down at the uniform i was wearing.

the first step in gaining knowledge is to admit that you have none. people that make some claim of knowledge are usually the stupid ones.

The Middle Age returns...

A society imprisoned by the ideology of security, with warlords (from corporate and State security agencies) taking over all what's left of the free America, with camps, fortresses (high security detention centers), bulldogs and goons -from State and private police- barking orders and beating people all over the place... no more popular culture, no more debate on the public place, no more "going wild in the streets", no more American Way of Life... just plain, dumb, barbarism. This is indeed where you are all going, so get prepared... either run for the woods or organize your own insurrectional guerilla, coz you won't get back the good ol' America of your youth.

It's sure as hell scaring the pants off of me. Vidal isn't the only one saying things like this, either. Paul Krugman recently did an interview where he said "On bad days, I wake up thinking America is turning into a third world nation."

Noam Chomsky laid it all out 16 years ago, in Class Warfare, where he states the goal of these powerful business lobbies is to "push America into a third world picture" (G, are we seeing evidence of that RIGHT NOW??)

George Carlin had a whole routine where he goes on about how America is finished. In subsequent interviews, before his death, he repeatedly stated that "America is finished. We're done."

A graduate of the National War College wrote a paper on how America becomes a dictatorship in 2012, in which he thoroughly outlines and cites sources, while making a very compelling argument, for why the military will soon take over all domestic affairs (including complete authority over the executive branch), because they are the only institution looked at favorably and confidently by the American public. It was actually a lot like what Vidal was saying. Read the paper here.

And now we have the great Gore Vidal saying it? EEEEEEEESHHHH!

This is really scary stuff. If it were about the anunaki, or moon bases, or whatever, I would shrug it off. But this seems to be a serious, serious, serious problem. It's coming from some very credible, scholarly sources..

We never took guns around Bush because we are afraid of guns. They scare me to death and I dont want to hurt another soul. Those neo-cons are crazy for standing up and fighting for their rights as they see them. Lets just live in peace and love and let the government do as they see fit. Bush was so evil, but we tolerated it and just peacefully waved our flags of protest because we are civilized.

But hey... you want to believe that MANDATORY Community Service, MANDATORY vaccinations, and the takeover of the government of what should be private entities is ok, more power to you, if you like to bow down to a Socialist dictatorship that is.

TPTB haven't taken complete control yet, but we are seeing step by step the same Socialist policies which have turned other countries into Socialist dictatorships being implemented in the U.S.

I honestly haven't seen much evidence that the private sector can handle the responsibility that has been given to them. My 401k is worth 7% of what it was 8 years ago. What that means is that I put my trust in the private sector to handle my money and investments and they pissed it away. I've been putting money into my 401k for 20 years now and there should be a large chunk of change in it. It pretty much means that barring some windfall, I'll be working into my 70's or 80's if I end up living that long.

My 401k did okay during Democratic rule and not so great during the Bush years. I've got a bit more faith in the democrats JUST for that reason alone. Personally though, I wish we'd get rid of the party system and just base your politics on your own merit. Don't ride the coat tails of a party you may or may not subscribe to.

And finally, political reform is what this country needs most. Politicians representing the people instead of themselves or THEIR interests. Any politician convicted of corruption should be publicly flogged and removed from office. And donations from any one source should be limited to $100 and political advertising should be subsidized. THAT would even things out a bit and take a lot of the reason that many corrupt people choose to be in politics.

If I wanted to take over the country and was a man in power with access to large quantities of cash, I'd do just what my government does when we move into other countries. I would hire blackwater (and, the other less well known mercenary groups that the US government hires) to take over the country.
They're headquartered in North Carolina and made up mostly of our retired special forces soldiers from every branch of the military. The CEO of blackwater is part of the Christian Right (going along with Gore Vidal's keen observation of "...religious mania has infected the political bloodstream and America has become corrosively isolationist...".
Just saying... I read people write on this site all the time that no US soldier would attack US Citizens. Well, I can believe that maybe 1/2 wouldn't. I mean, some of our police officers do it all the time, why not the military? But, a good way around that would be mercenaries (Why the HELL do we allow them to set up shop in such large numbers on US soil, anyway?).

Lets all be honest with ourselves. Before the events of 9/11, the United States was slowly being turned into a dictatorship. After the events of 9/11, the United States made certain laws (dictatorish in style) under the influence of fear. Once Obama came into office, he took advantage of our superficial differences to pass more pronounced communistic laws.

Dictatorship is being put into place in real time. Democrats and Republicans are two different entities, which are trying to do the same thing. Just at two different extremes.

Socialism is the foundation for communism and that is the bottom line. When governments take away certain freedoms through mandates, they a promoting and implementing a government based upon dictatorship.

Example: Lets assume that tomorrow the Health Care bill gets passed, and everyone is mandated to follow it's criteria. What will stop the government from coming in and saying, "You cannot weight over 150lbs. You cannot eat a cheeseburger. You cannot eat soda. You can not have brown hair, etc...". Since you the citizens are forced to get health care, you could be held responsible for your health based upon the government's criteria. Individual freedom will be lost to a government system, which forces its citizens to meet their policies. Once this bill is put into place, every citizen of these United States will be owned and regulated by the government. Your physical self will no loner belong to you. There are no clauses in these bills that prevent the loss of individual freedom. None. We will all be healthy, but we will have lost our freedom.

Another Example: Currently, there is an energy bill being created. Our government will force you (Obama mentioned this during his election) to keep your thermostat at certain degrees. In order to control your house thermostat, they will connect it to a government runned facility. If a government official thinks your are using too much energy, they will adjust your thermostat at their digression. You will loose the right to choose what level of temperature you would like.

Another Example: Obama's Civil Service plan is also a problem. According to his own words, Obama will force teens into the service of the government. Young adults will be drafted into the Civil Service programs through a mandate. Don't believe me? Look it up. Once this goes into place, what will stop the government from, "Training these teens to promote government policy. Training teens to keep people in order under government control." None. Not only are teens in jeopardy of being manipulated and conditioned by the government, but there is the potential that they will be used to keep everyone else in line. Sounds like the SS to me.

Now do you guys understand?

Obama is not only going after capitalism, but he is coming for ever man, women, and child from all walks of life. Period. Since his own party is currently in control, there is not a damn thing we can currently do about it.

I constantly see debates on here of left vs. right and I think that is great.

But one question keeps coming into my mind. If the republicans in this country are truly the smart ones, why is it that the "cream of their crop" includes George W. Bush and Sarah Palin?

But the government as in our system will not fall because of left leaning liberals or right leaning conservatives but because of both.

The wild swinging from polar opposites from left to right will render the government unable to function...what did we see when bush minor took power...an extended period where he undid as much of Clinton's works as he could...what did we see when Obama took power...an extended period where he undid as much of bush minor's work as he could. The same thing happens in congress.

Eventually the government will become so ineffectual that it will break down entirely and when the dictator steps forth he will posture himself as an alternative to the poles left and right...in short he will claim that he is neither and will most likely not be aligned with either party...which is why he will succeed.

So no it will not be Obama or anyone from the parties...look outside of them for the future dictator whomever he is.

Amazing.

I also predicted this very thing, but did it during the 2nd Bush administration when the left was so rabidly attacking anything Republican or conservative. I said politics will turn into nothing but "tit for tat", with the result being that nothing gets done in government that needs to get done.

My last prediction was that if the left didn't back off some back then, they would only have themselves to blame for what happened during the next administration if a democrat won.

Guess what? Here we are. For blame, take a good look in the mirror boys and girls.

I thought the nightmare would end with Bush, but obviously that isn't the case. It might even get worse, under Obama. It would be no better under McCain.

We really were screwed, in 2000, 2004, and 2008.

How much worse can it get?

How much worse? for a long long time. But the question is why? I think the answer is oil peak. For decades Oil was our socities's blood, less oil mean less liberties, less money... but I don t think America will fall to nazim or anything like that, no it will be a new kind of dictatorship.

Yes. That's why I still have you marked as a friend.

It's an age old question in all facets of life - who will take the high road and make the first (positive) move?

The interesting thing to me is that many Republicans are supposed to be religious, where they are taught to turn the other cheek, but don't in this case. And many dems are basically pacifists that would run from any fight, but don't in this case.
