N.Y. Health Care Workers Revolt Over H1N1 Vaccine

wcbstv.com

Workers are being told to either get the swine flu vaccine or lose their jobs.

New York is the first state in the country to mandate flu vaccinations for its health care workers. The first doses of swine flu vaccine will be available beginning next week. Much of it is reserved for state health care workers, but there is growing opposition to required innoculations.

Health care workers in Hauppauge screamed "No forced shots!" as they rallied Tuesday against the state regulation requiring them to roll up their sleeves.

"I don't even tend to the sick. I am in the nutrition field. The

Registered nurse Frank Mannino, 50, was also angry. He said the state regulation violates his personal freedom and civil rights.

"And now I will lose my job if I don't take the regular flu shot or the swine flu shot."

When asked if he's willing to lose his job, Mannino said, "Absolutely. I will not take it, will not be forced. This is still America."

Heck yeah
i am very glad to see health care providers taking a stand on this!

hopefully workers in other area's will follow there example.

Great thread

I'm glad they are standing up for their rights, and ultimately ours too. I hope all health care workers follow suit.

Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition!

I hope this type of stance against institutions forcing "what's good for you" down peoples throats grows as large as the tea parties did.

This is quite paradoxical in a way. The theory is, get all the medical field workers vaccinated so they wont get sick and miss work to tend to all the sick people. By forcing it, those employees who are against it either quit or get fired, resulting in a loss of personnel to tend to sick people.

Lose-Lose.

While I don't think the flu is a major issue as of yet, forcing someone to take the vaccine is going to push people to their limits - especially when the govn't (fed/state/local) start saying you MUST or you don't have a job.

I think people are going to become more and more vocal over the next few months if this continues.

I work in a pharmacy and actively tell people not to get the vaccine. We may end up losing money, but # that, we need to keep people healthy.
