Depth = Less than 1 mile.
This is the same depth that the N. Korean nuclear test registered at.
We are either looking at a decent sized ground blast (the nuclear test was a 5.3), or a similar underground explosion.
It is possible that this is not a natural event.

So, according to Google Earth, the location is between Kawich Peak and Little Rawhide mountain well northeast of the Tonopah site.
There are 3 possibilities:
1. Mining blast/civilian construction
2. Natural tremor (ground level).
3. Buried site in the mountain range, near highway.
Does anyone know of any mining operations in the area?

It probably is nothing more than a natural quake that is receiving unusual attention on a conspiracy site.
If it was a unnatural event such as you suggest at a government controlled super secret site......that the whole world knows about,it WOULD NOT even
appear on the Government run USGS web site!
Or did that not cross your mind?

Natural.
Google Earth'd it and very familiar with the area. Notice it is very close to Warm Springs, a fairly hot hot spring denoting geological activity near
surface.

It did. Although, you would think it would be more telling if the data showed up on another, foreign site such as,
China?
We can monitor seismic activity across the globe, so can everyone else. If there were something nefarious going on, the lack of reporting by
the USGS would raise flags.
I am still thinking this could be a mine blast.

Thanks, hot springs would make sense.

I know the area. No mining there. The reading should be pretty accurate since there are three earthquake sensors in the area (that I know of). One is
on the hill above Warm Springs at the repeater site. Another is a bit north of the TTR. The third is in the hills above the city of Tonopah.
Warm Springs repeater site
This repeater site has changed quite a bit. I have new photos, though not uploaded yet. The "Nevada Shared" trunk system is now operational at the
site. Two new shacks have been installed.
Nevada Shared Trunk Radio system
As a side note, the old bar at Warm Springs has been fenced off right at the highway. The reservoir at Crystal Springs is fenced off too. The Warm
Springs site is private, so the fence is legit. I'm not sure the fence at Crystal Springs is legit. In these rural area, people fence off land they
don't own all the time. It is pretty effective since it takes a lot of effort to determine if a fence is legit or not. If the fence or gate is not
legal, the BLM will take it down. The fake no trespassing signs are another story. The BLM doesn't bother to remove them.

Going back and poking around the USGS web site... I notice that either they are using a different UTC than the OP's referenced site... or this quake
doesn't actually appear there.
Timestamp from RSOE:
29 September, 2009 at 19:14:32 UTC
Timeblock from USGS: (also in UTC)
MAP 1.8 2009/09/29 20:21:26 60.443 -152.542 99.3 68 km ( 42 mi) WNW of Clam Gulch, AK
MAP 1.3 2009/09/29 20:07:56 37.610 -119.093 23.1 11 km ( 7 mi) WSW of Mammoth Lakes, CA
MAP 2.6 2009/09/29 20:02:21 51.711 -181.967 72.7 366 km (228 mi) W of Adak, AK
MAP 1.7 2009/09/29 19:44:57 37.508 -122.406 0.0 6 km ( 4 mi) E of El Granada, CA
MAP 1.1 2009/09/29 19:42:29 37.606 -119.080 20.6 10 km ( 6 mi) WSW of Mammoth Lakes, CA
MAP 1.6 2009/09/29 19:36:12 65.859 -146.524 24.4 55 km ( 34 mi) SW of Birch Creek, AK
MAP 1.1 2009/09/29 19:30:41 37.603 -119.067 19.7 9 km ( 5 mi) WSW of Mammoth Lakes, CA
MAP 1.2 2009/09/29 19:13:04 38.825 -122.798 3.4 3 km ( 2 mi) NNE of The Geysers, CA
MAP 1.3 2009/09/29 19:07:25 62.833 -149.632 73.1 51 km ( 32 mi) NNE of Chase, AK
So... either I'm missing something, or the USGS isn't showing this in their data. (This is the US Mag 1.0+ batch) OR like other manmade
events, it's been yanked from the data.
Manmade events that they commonly pull: quarry explosions, mining explosions, weapons tests etc..
.
