im actualy beggining to understand you people^^
making a protected, self updating, self repairing, self cleaning pc can be a bit troublesome even for a it specialist.
but whats with the mac shows/seminars where they always use words like "better""easy""cooler""beautifull' not those exact words, but they yse them over and over again like brain control I:
plus they talk so much about little features that windows allready has like theyr INNOVATIOn and UNIQUE I:
other then that i understand, macs are pretty sleak and quality.
but im not a laptop kinda guy yet i dont know... desktop mac dont seem like a bargain

Yeah that stuff can be annoying, in fact that's what kept me from trying macs for a long time, namely this full of themselves feeling they project as a company.

But then OS X came out a few years ago and I just couldn't bring myself to deny myself a quality product simply because Steve Jobs happens to be a tool.

But to be fair regarding the "cool, sleek, beautiful" comments, check out apple's new tablet pc rumored to be coming out in January:

I really don't think those commercials do anything for the majority of people because of how expensive Mac have their products - even if they are used! Also, I think you have to weigh in the fact that the average person only uses a computer for the most basic of things - internet, photos, and a few applications with some video games maybe. Mac would be a waste of money for these people for the simple fact that the most basic Mac is still more expensive than a seriously loaded PC. PC sucks? Yeah, it does. A lot of viruses, a lot of pointless updates including license checking on every update, Window Vista is a ripoff, etc. But what is having a Mac really going to do when essentially the PC and Mac do the same damn thing? It is like comparing a book to a Kindle. Sure, you can look pretentious by going into a noisy cafe and sit down and try to read your Kindle. "Look, everyone thinks I'm an intellectual! Yippee!" But at the end of day, you are going to read the end of that book on Kindle and I am going to literally read the end of that same damn book.

I wanted to jump on the bandwagon of Mac, and though I can afford it, besides writing my novel and playing video games and web searching, I cannot really see the need for a Mac that my PC does not already give me. I don't even like Apple products. My Creative Zen is the best MP3 player I have ever had and yes I have had several Ipods.

The commercial appeal more to those who want to be trendy than those of us who want to be practical.

The word "Bargain" and "Apple" or "Mac" will never appear in the same sentence, not even on the apple website. Its not a bargain. At all.

But seriously, my new studio IMac came today, and it is the sweetest freaking computer I've ever plugged in. There is literally 1 cord to the whole thing, the power cord. The mouse and keyboard are wireless and the whole system is built into its shiny magnificent 24" screen.

But again, I probably wouldn't have bought a mac if I wasn't running a studio off of it. They are incredible works of art design-wise.

Perhaps that's an oversimplification ...

A Yugo will get you from A to B as will a Bentley but most of us drive something in between. Same thing with macs and windows pcs but less extreme ... some folks are happy with something purely functional thet requires heavy maintenance, drivers, constant reboots, aggressive protection etc, and others are willing to pay a bit more so they can simply open it, never have to worry about it, enjoy it, and yes god forbid find it an attractive piece of hardware.

i though we have alienware for that,to feel like were driving a lambo.
but i guess alienware is more for rich little boys, who think the faster
theyr pc is the bigger theyr....is XD
mac is like alienware..but for ..well..grown ups.
one thing i would buy is the aluminium laptop, looks really sturdy
or the keyboard, but the other stuff are just too expensive.
and i really hate too people with macbooks in coffes..cmon xD

Nice, but you missed my point. I did not state that the most simple PC (Yugo) was practical nor did I say anything in between was not practical. If you got the best PC money could buy, you still get a little more than a Mac at the same price. I've never had a problem with my very expensive PC, never had to invest in anything but virus protection. I have no idea why you even included the "attractiveness of a hardware" as that has no relevance at all unless you are buying a Mac or PC to impress people including thieves.

I use my PC an awful lot everyday, I don't mind admitting that both form and function are appealing to me. I'm not sure why one would be averse to beauty ... other than to make a tenuous point that is.

Had Toshiba Satellites for quite some time now. 2 of them...1 for me...1 for my wife

both have yet to have a single problem. I only finally got my newest after 4 years because dangit I am a gamer and I wanted real power.

So in these four years and 3 computers I have yet to have a single problem. Funny thing is my Mother's iMac crashed one day...know what the real issue was? Finding a person who knew how to fix it

and if you hate the Mac vs PC commercials...I beg you to go watch the I'm a PC commercials that were made to answer Mac. Essentially it is a bunch of people who do top jobs and little jobs...everything from NASA to the college girl. Each say I'm a PC...simply becaus PC is everywhere

love it...never gonna leave it

I'd say hold off on both and just wait til these touch screens become consumer-level.. By that I mean you actually get hardware that you pay for.

Touch screens are no longer much of a problem for companies to produce. When they realize they need to market them affordably, all computer systems will come down in price.

Apparently the Mac tablet is going to be 800 in price. What that tells me is that it is going to be quite powerless compared to the 300 dollar PC mini laptops that are already out.

I'm a huge apple fan, with a desktop, laptop and iphone, but I still see some of their weakness.

Ok, nevermind.. I'm getting one.

I would expect it have pretty much the same, if not slightly better specs than the current (at time of release) MacBook Air. Actually not a bad deal if it's under $1000.

Bought a macbook today, so far im liking it, really easy to pick up and the build quality feels great.

My only problem is the screen, if it's not in perfect position it has like this white wash over it?
really annoying me, £700 and you would expect a better screen, apart from that im happy so far.

Where in the world is the keyboard? You just cant type using a touch screen, it would be horrible and the screen would be smudged.

Yeah unfortunately Apple has decided to get rid of the anti-glare screen on the laptops forever. Apparently the infinitesimally small resolution loss was worth taking the road to glossy-only.

Yes I am one of those Apple people, I swear they should hire me. I would sell a lot of Apples. As many friends as I have converted to Apple I should be getting paid by now

No seriously that looks like a near little computer.

Treat myself to a new sony vaio instead, shame because it is a sexy little piece
