I really wasn't looking into the politics of the school and/or school district.

I am just not understand why music programs are cut across this nation because the kids need more and more education time, but then it seems there is time for this? Time would be better served seeing if any one of these children (I believe they are 1st to 2nd grade) can perform arithmetic off the top of their head, recite the Preamble (NOW THERE IS A MESSAGE OF HOPE!) but alas I highly doubt it

Find out the name/location of the school, call them and demand that the teacher be put on administrative leave. This is absurd and an outrage. I won't go as far as to say this is indoctrination, but this is a teacher forcing their views to children.

And you're right, if this were Bush, this would have been headline news and ALL the MSM networks would have been talking about it. I can see Chris Matthews now or Keith Olberman spouting off at the atrocity if this were the case.

How the tables have turned.

Call them up yourselves.. I just did.

They are a public school with very liberal values. Kids aren't forced to go to this school, though the entire district appears to have very liberal values as well.

Personally, although I know it offends many here, I believe that the teacher was acting within the spirit of the school.

You are missing the distinction though. What you posted, I also posted, but happened at a private church, where most likely, the parents were proud that their little buckaroos were being indoctrinated.

The other happened at public school where maybe the parents didn't know what was going on. A private church does not equate to a public school.

It really has nothing to do with who the sitting president is...

I think it goes a long way though in understanding why this is happening with no issues there.

I'd have to agree with ya there...

Does this district have vouchers for those who cannot afford to pay for the public school and to send their kids off to a private school? How about allowances for home schooling or private tutoring?

For most of the people living in most of the country their kids are de facto forced into public schools.

Hunka I think you are correct.

It runs deeper than just the teacher. I think its not intentional but more misguided in what they were trying to do. We now have both sides, becoming so far over the top with either --- weird songs of lore about a sitting president and the other side screaming NAZISM!!!!!! Just gets old.

This is why my argument runs deeper to include such things as the Pledge of Allegiance. Just a bit baffled by nearly all of it

OK.

Heres this years Burlington Schools Calendar

If you look at it, in the 09/10 school year school finishes on Thursday 17th June, and Friday is a teachers only day.

Heres a memo from the 08/09 school year that states

Summer vacation for our students starts on Friday, June 19th through Wednesday, September 2nd.

Which means that, if the same pattern was followed in the 09/10 year, the kids weren't in school on the 19th June 2009.

Now granted, the claim on the video says "around" 19th June. But "around" is kinda vague, considering the claim made about it.

This is why I was saying earlier about context, because now it seems the "facts" aren't adding up that well.

This could have been a private thing filmed on the premises, and may not be anything to do with school staff at all.

Again, I reiterate, more info is needed.

hahaha, this is nothing new.

But this IS something new! No children have EVER sung songs about the President of the US before... Well, except for a few.

You see, children LOVE to sing songs. And singing songs "praising" other presidents like Lincoln and Washington or Kennedy or Jefferson or The Generic President or just Various Heroes (including presidents) has been OK in the past, but this is NEW. This is different.

Children singing these songs "praising" our presidents were never brought up or posted on YouTube because ... well... It's just "different" with Obama... So, this IS new. Because it's different. Because nobody noticed before. Nobody cared. But all of a sudden, for some reason, since it's Obama, people care like you wouldn't believe!

President John F. Kennedy,
came to office in 1960.
He said that all should be
treated right
in public facilities,
no matter if your black or white.

They stole lyrics from Michael Jackson!

No.. it's a brand new thing for children to sing songs about their president.

We're talking two differnt things here. One the parents that are sending their kids to private Christian schools are doing that of their own free will part of what a Free nation is about, to bring your children up with your own beliefs. This video though is in a Public school paid for by tax dollars an I'm pretty sure most parents don't want their children brainwashed to believe obama is greater then anything else. (As funny as that may sound)

I like the digging of information there.

We have three possibilities here: A-It happened during school hours (which it might not have been the case) B-It was a private function (could be likely) C- It was a summer school function (which in case, would lead back to A).

Even so, my stance still stands that its tall just FUBAR relating to this, the Bush things people will post from church camps, and people just going off the deep-end for really no reason at all.

Kids are forced to go to school. Oh yes.. If the children do not attend the parents will be fined or arrested or both.. students can also face truancy charges.

Public school education is mandatory in the US...

So was this:

Principal Frank Lay and Athletic Director Robert Freeman at Pace High School in the Florida panhandle county of Santa Rosa could face fines, jail time and loss of their retirement benefits.

During a luncheon to honor those who contributed toward the public school's athletic Field House, Principal Lay reportedly asked Freeman to offer a blessing for the meal. Students were not present at the time of the blessing.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) charged that the action constituted a violation of a previous court order and accused Lay and Freeman of contempt of court. Source

And these people, for dragging their idols into a school, could be sent to prison.

Get a grip.......

I work in one of the largest K12 school districts in Missouri.....not as a teacher....so you can rest assured, I have no vested interest in defending what is in the curriculum.

Your comments are "over-the-top" and hysterical hyperbole.

It isn't happening.

Wow...this is disgusting. This is just proof of how warped some school teachers/school's are...Unfortunately they teach their loony beliefs on their students. The teacher is clearly the antagonist here but I'm sure she's not the only one. This is why I have no faith in the education system in this country and think its an epic fail.

Here to me is what is heartbreaking, watching that video, pretty much every race is covered in those children. Black, white, indian, mexican (i didnt see an asian but maybe). Barrack Obama never told these kids to get along they dont know Racism they were all one classroom together no race. What happens when the kid goes home and tells his/her parents? He/ She may be treated to a tirade of racial prejudice based on what they were forced to do. Or since this is the internet age what happens in 3-4-10 years from now when the kids see that they were forced to do these things? If we as a human race will ever have racial equality we will have to have the same doubts and apprehensions FREELY of a man of any race. Until i can doubt the mexican, asian, black, indian, whatever, until i can doubt them the way i doubt white men we are not living in a fair society.
If I speak ill or doubt a bill/legislation Obama has done im a racist. But doesnt that make the person judging me a racist, because they are assuming bad things about me based on my race. The cylce doesnt look liek its gonna break soon.

I have to agree with most of these replies.

If this is indeed a public school, then this is getting out of hand.

If it is private, well then that is apparently what you are paying for?

It's funny though, I remember moving to South Dakota back in 5th grade and having to stand up and say the pledge. I remember talking to my new classmates about how dumb this is, but everyone looked at me like I was crazy.

I have never been interested in having to "pay my respects" to some sort of "idol"

In the end, perhaps in public schools at least, we need a new education czar or put an end to whatever we have going right now. I guess in this instance I like RP's idea of letting the local community govern schools as long as you dont have to learn like 90% farming in South Dakota or something like that down the line etc..

I have read the communist manifesto and I don't find any similarities here. Although I object to children being taught to praise any given person, the ideas of equal pay for equal work are *not* socialist. If anything, feminist comes to mind. Different pay for different work is allowed there.

Also, all colors equal on his sight? Do you think children should be taught to discriminate instead? Nothing sinister about that part of the lyrics in my mind.

In fact, all the lyrics, except for the name "BHO" are principles that I think children should learn: Compensation based on the quality of your work, and equality for all colors. If anything, equality is anti-affirmative action isn't it?

Does anybody here honestly thinks that some people deserve to be paid more for the same work than others?

-rrr
