Hmm, if it was about the president how come key words that relate to what mostly President Obama has used and are used in relation to him?

My point is that no matter who was president, they would pick out things about him or her and put them in the song. If Hillary had been president, they would have made a big deal about her being the first woman, possibly that being president must run in the family or something. If it had been John McCain, the words would have praised his service to his country and his POW past.

Point being if they are singing in praise of Black History month, then why not come up with a song that relates MLK's dream to the fact that President Obama has broken the ultimate glass barrier?

This is so strange. I see this kind of question asked all the time. "Why didn't they do it slightly differently, and more like I would have done it"? The answer: Because they are not you.

And why is it OK to do it for Black History Month, but not just to show appreciation to the President? Why is it OK to make a song about his skin color?

I just don't understand people!

Singing about Obama is not the problem here. I can care less about his color of skin,

Then why bring it up?

but to start having kids sing his praises when nothing of praise has been accomplished EXCEPT the fact he is the first president that is not purely white.

That's your opinion. Many people think he's accomplished quite a lot.

OK. I didn't either. But it's clearly done in some schools. But no one has cared until now...

For your own sense of personal outrage or your childs benefit? There is a difference.

Best post in the thread!
When you think about what singing a little ditty for the class production does for a kid, regardless the subject, how much damage does it do? What kind of long-term negative effect is this going to have on those kids?

NONE

But because the adults got all upset and made a HUGE political deal out of it and brought the national spotlight to these kids, they're now wondering WTH is up. What did they do wrong? Why is their teacher in trouble? Why is their school on the news?

And it's all because the adults acted like imbeciles about a little song in their school production...

Since the clothes the kids were wearing in the video were pointed out by some astute observers, here's the weather for June 19, 2009 and "around".

www.wunderground.com...

Edit: Oh, and thanks to JacKatMtn for finding this link since I tried and failed, through no fault of my own mind you.

You are confused between reporting actual news and creating it.

A dozen children in some NJ grade school singing a song about President Obama for Black history month...that is not news. At most it is an issue between parents that send their children to that school and the school. NOT national news by any rational definition.

But Fox has gleefully thrown these children and thier school into the National Spotlight in the midst of a fanatical political climate...so their talking heads would have something to rant about for ratings.

I don't consider it news.

I hope any parents of attending children that have issue take it up with the school...beyond that...

NOT national news...

their are kids involved...

leave them and the school the ef alone...

I am sure Fox News is already parked in the school lot waiting for parents to pick up their kids.

No other important news stories for our country right now?....

Regardless, I would be very uncomfortable to have my child do something like this- especially put to the tune of Battle Hymn of the Republic with lyrics similar to Jesus Loves the Little Children in one stanza. Even if others consider that over reaction, I'm the parent so that's that.

Well within the rights of any parent to take issue...if it is your child.

That said...how uncomfortbale would you be if it was your child in that video and Fox News elevated it to national news as a talking point in the context of the current political climate?

And right wing blogs were broadcasting names and contact information of the school and teachers to your childs school encouraging followers to "express" their discontent??

Ponder that for a moment...

I am not naive, I know about ratings and sensationalism, but really...are we targeting a grade school for singing a song about President Obama during black history month? Is that what we do in this political climate?

I can agree with some of the things you are saying here. However, I would ask you a few things to ponder....

Whose fault is it that this has happened to these kids? Personally I would argue the teacher.

Through showing this video, and hopefully this raises this sort of indoctrination to an issue and it is stopped. If that is the case, people seeing this video will prevent other kids from being center stage in a political debate.

And lastly, if this was 5 years ago and a school doing this to Bush, there would justifiable outrage. No sitting President should forced down kids throats to praise with a church-like song spouting the teacher's personal opinions.....

I still want an answer.

Did any of you notice the I am barak Obama Poster in the back round at around 1:36. Left hand side.

And is the second part of the song after 1:36 sung to the tune of Glory Glory Hallelujah?

I am Barack Obama is a book by Charisse Carney-Jones.

I am Barack Obama

The one that supposedly didn't film the kids, but posted the video on her youtube page.

Good find

I see the poster, but it doesn't look like it says that. (BTW, it's spelled "Barack", not "Barak".) The poster definitely doesn't look like it says Barack.

Edit. It does look like the book cover.

Book Cover

I Am Barack Obama is not a book about Barack Obama. Rather, it allows children to see themselves through the inspirational story of President Obama growing up as an ordinary child asking, “Who will change the world?”

And is the second part of the song after 1:36 sung to the tune of Glory Glory Hallelujah?

Yes.

Well personally I would argue that you are not seeing the whole picture here. If this was an isolated instance, or just some sound sung in a school, without the political debate surrounding it, I could agree with you.

However that is not the case. People are concerned about the idolatry of Obama as a God-like person. People are concerned with the indoctrination of children into the political philosophies of Obama. People are concerned with their kids' teacher position of authority being taken advantage of to push their own political agenda. People are concerned with the concept of forced social service from Obama. People are concerned with a civilian defense force. People are concerned by the fact that self proclaimed socialists and communists are part of Obama's administration.

You take all of these concerns, wrap up what many have seen and experienced in socialist societies, and the picture here is much larger than one class singing a song. If it was just that, then yes this would be overblown a bit. Although I still think no sitting President should be idolatrized like this.

Thanks for confirming that it was sung to Glory Glory... Thats freaky... Mixing religious songs into this political incorrectness.

As for the I am Barack Obama Poster... Barack in the in middle I think White flags are in the back round... The words I Am are clearly visible Barack Obama is a little fuzzy but the first and last letter of both words are clear as day..

It does say I am Barack Obama... And apparently it is a book of some type..

Thank you lucentenigma

I am going to go ahead and refrain from letting my true feelings be known about this video in fear that I may be banned from ATS forever. There is no possible way to get my true thoughts across without using explicit language. Instead I will just say that it might take me several days to stop vomiting all over my computer.

Hello again. I found myself agreeing with you on the previous page that you had a good point. However, I do feel you are being a bit unfair or one sided now. You seem to have more of an issue with the media reporting the incident rather the incident itself. I'm curious why you feel more outrage towards the media for exploiting the incident than towards the teacher for actually causing the incident by exploiting the children to begin with?

You've got to admit this is just a tad bit creepy what the teacher had the children do, right?

The actual title is called Battle Hymn of the Republic.

I couldn't read through all the responses yet, so my apologies if this has already been brought up . . .

I call Shenanigans on this video. It strikes me less as an actual indoctrination song being sung by actual kids, than a staged attempt to make people believe this Cult of Obama is being forged. Think about it for a minute. People who would be this theoretically devoted to Obama are generally aware of the heavy anti-Obama sentiment that exists. This kind of display would show a mind-boggling lack of image awareness that I find hard to believe.

Not to mention the lyrics to the song sound slapped together and slipshod as opposing to the carefully crafted ode that a real Obamaton would slave over for the greater glory of fearless leader.

Also, why would this be video taped?

How sure would this teacher be that no parent would be offended by this kind of nonsensical wankery?

Ultimately, what I guess I'm saying is that this seems too incredibly stupid to be legit.

I would be more inclined to this this is staged by anti-Obama forces to try an enhance the "Communist/Socialist/Fascist" label.

This is nothing, It will get worse if we let it. Remember the Presidents SS he got approval for? You know the ones that will be loyal to Obama only and stationed at our nations Universities. They will recruit many with their Satanic brainwashing.

If this happens down south then that teacher had better have some good protection. Its bad enough that we had to send letters to the schools so they would not make our kids watch the Anti-Christ on TV.

I think it is just that. Just some kids singing a song about the first black president during black history month. I see the "whole picture" surrounding it...

I just believe that picture to be a falsehood. A mirage of political rhetoric during a very ugly time in this countries history. A construct created by right leaning media outlets to serve both a partisan agenda of attack and for ratings.

I know that answer must frustrate some who sincerely believe that our President has some hidden "socialist" agenda that involves indocternation, but I can only be honest.

I won't accuse anyone of being delusional or drinking kool aid on this point and I would ask the same courtessy from others. It the view that my own rational analysis leads me to.

However that is not the case. People are concerned about the idolatry of Obama as a God-like person. People are concerned with the indoctrination of children into the political philosophies of Obama. People are concerned ...0trimmed qoute for brevity0.....People are concerned by the fact that self proclaimed socialists and communists are part of Obama's administration.

Like I said..it is my personal belief that the above is news "created" not reported. A bullet point list of Fox news leads. Hyperbole based on half truths and minutia strung together with very weak and often falsely premised political agenda filled rants.

So in the end it is my conclusion that this grade school and the attendant children have shamelessly been used as fodder for an inane political smear and more importantly RATINGS and that offends me.

Just being honest. Respectfully disagree that this is National News.

I don't think the poster a 1:36 is an Obama poster, it looks like it says something about Change to me.

I personally am offended by this sort of thing and I would prefer my children not take part in this. I want them learning the constitution, history and math skills.

I had a chat with my daughters teacher last year for taking the cookie away from her during lunch. The teacher was a real health food nut and on day one of class rounded up all the "unhealthy" snacks from her students lunches and confiscated them. Her logic was that since most of my daughters classmates where from low income families they didn't understand moderation. So she took my daughters one cookie and the bags of chips that were the main lunch of her classmates.

Of course this is the same teacher that gave us heck because our daughter reads at a grade level above hers. Evidently it's wrong to be an achiever or excel.

So let me ask you a question based on your last post; if this is shown to be real and not to be a staged video by anti-Obama forces, what are your thoughts?

I do agree that it is sooooo outrageous, it is hard to see why anyone would knowingly do this and not think it would cause a storm. But that is what fanatical followers do..... and thats not a commentary about Obama fanatics, but just fanatics in general.

This is pretty outrageous. No President, Republican or Democrat, should be universally taught and praised to school children as a savior. If this video was about Bush 5 years ago, there would have been outrage, and it would have been justified.

This is indoctrination of our children. The teacher her in forcing their own politics onto their students. And regardless of if a teacher is Republican or Democrat or unaffiliated, their politics should not be forced on the kids.

Star, Flag and pass a link to this YouTube video on. People need to know what is happening in the schools.

You have no idea what the context of the video is. It could be that Barak is coming to their school. It could be they are singing a song about every president.

Seems like some people here need to go back to school to make up that critical thinking class.
