US Embassy in South Africa closes for security

JOHANNESBURG — The U.S. Embassy and other American offices in South Africa have been ordered closed for at least two days this week because of unspecified security concerns, U.S. and South African officials said.

Am unspecified threat has caused the closure of "the embassy in Pretoria, consulates in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, and aid and development offices."

Along with all the big threats in the US, something big seems to be about to happen.

I heard that the 'night of the long knives' or at least the African version of it will kick off when NM dies?
That means the majority of Africans will attack the white folk there, and who better to take your frustrations out on but the US? Don't forget a lot of the African states are also Muslim so they'll be raising that standard to fight for as well....

The Night of the Long Knives appears to be a myth (started by right-wing Afrikaners), however since then a lot of militant black youth seems to have taken to the idea quite nicely. Personally I don't think there will be any such thing - The increasingly large black middle class have adapted themselves to a Western way of living and don't have any inclination to change the status quo.

South Africa and most African countries south of the Equator are not muslim influenced nor are do they have any large or radical muslim-based groups or political parties. South Africa, though, does have a relatively large muslim population who are extremely moderate.

They are the least of our worries.

Today is Heritage Day - I am just about to go downstairs and sample culinary delights from our companies many diverse ethnic groups. We are all dressed in our varous cultural or traditional clothing, and the mood is festive and happy.
Despite our problems, South Africa remains a political miracle - even after 15 years of true democracy.
