If you could give one thing to an alien that would define humanity, what would it be?

I'd give it the coordinates to my ex g/f's hometown, tell them she's directly responsible for everything that's happened to aliens for the past 10 years, and let them blow it to a crisp.

I would show them my hands extended, palm upward in a welcoming gesture and the biggest, brightest smile I have. That should do it!

What would I give them that would define humanity?

A double edged sword.

I would give it LOVE because we as humans always got some form of love for something associated with all our CAUSES down here.

I think i would give them some music;
i think music pretty much sums up the essence of humanity pretty well;
or maybe a really good documentary like "HOME" or the "Planet Earth" series from the discovery channel

I agree, I think a good piece by Mozart or Beethoven, to show them the potential residing in each human, not the selfish barbarian virus we've become!

Well some of us anyway lol!

i would most likely offer the being a book of poetry and prose of the romantic era some byron and poe . showing the bianary nature of the human animal, seeing as how we can be both beautiful as well as horriific and those two writers realy show the dual aspects of our true nature.

I would sit them down for a screening of War of the Worlds and Independence Day, and let them know that that is the way we would treat alien contact as a species and see what the aftermath would be.

Not sure. I suppose it depends on the aliens in question.

If it's a friendly alien full of love and niceness, then perhaps something artistic, peaceful etc, like the picture of the Sistine chapel is good. Or a video of some nice kids playing happily

If it's a war mongering race, lets say Klingons for a giggle, a Glasgow kiss. (for those unfamiliar with this terminology, please go to Glasgow and ask a skinhead what it is. Remember, experience exceeds words)

If it's dull race, (and why shouldn't they be?) a copy of Windows XP reference guide. They'd like that I'm sure

If it's a bunch of Nordics, a party! Nordics seems a lot more friendly and, well, 6+ foot blondes do have a thing about them!

A dollar bill.

Economics seems to be the driving motive force behind the current state of humanity these days. So a dollar bill is a good representative of that.

And as much as it helps drive creation and smooths transactions, it's also the very same thing that currently prevents further progression of society. So not only is it a tool, but a burden.

Maybe we'll get past using a crutch for estimating the value of things by the time we make progress off of this planet. But then again, maybe not. It's fun to speculate upon though.

A strait jacket to let them know that we are crazy.

To define humanity? Given our history, Colonial times and slavery, the dark ages, the roman empire, the other historical warlords, sheesh we can go on and on. I would give them a large sward with a tiny white feather attached. The large sword encompasses our history, the tiny white feather our(The West and Far East) only newly found wish for peace.

What think would describe the amount of 1st degree murderers that walk around on this planet and call themselves human.

No object can depict the beast that is humans.

As much as I would like to answer your question, I can't do it the way you would like.

With that being said, I would give them NOTHING. IMO, this will teach them the ways of humanity. If you want something, either take it or earn it. It won't be given to you.

A lifetime subscription to one of the worlds many satellite providers.

What better way to learn about humanity than t.v.? Period dramas, comedies, soft-core to hard-core porn, documetaries, daily news.

Everything they might want to learn about would be there, but of course out of the thousands of channels, there`ll still rarely be anything good on.

Money, coins and dollars, as that seems to sum up humanity these days.

Harm None
Peace
