The reverse technology of what brought me to that time and space in the first place, or wait, were they in the first place and they are in my time and space that eventually led me to this place?

I figure it should be something in the area of math. Math seems to be a constant language that has stood the test of time. If they didn't have it already.....

Fibonacci sequence also known as the Golden Ratio.

It sounds like this would make a good movie. I cant remember if someone suggested a solar powered DVD player and some movies. That would be a great way to show a lot of technology off without bringing a shipload of stuff.

I don't know maybe a dentist would have been a very useful person to people in those times. Just drop him off and leave him.
Here take him.

I would try to give them the periodic table and a machinists handbook. Of course they may think I'm either crazy or a witch. In either case I would be burned at the stake.

If I was successful then when I get back to my time period I will be in a much more advanced civilization. The industrial revolution would have had a 3000 year kick start.

I also thought about a microscope so they would understand a microscopic world is right in front of them and it's the cause of a lot of diseases and sickness. That would be the more beneficial thing to give.

One item eh?
I'm torn between...
... an OLPC pre-loaded with "Rosetta Stone" software, "The Principia Discordia", "Encyclopaedia Brittanica", and engineering courses ranging from introductory through college level including aerodynamics and nuclear engineering, and copies of all religious texts with notes on each asking for them to be fixed before they become a problem...
... Al Gore ...
... or a note addressed to the Romans saying "Don't kill Jesus. You don't what kind of trouble you're going to be starting. And remind everyone else to watch out for Mohammed."

Easy. A bible, Qur'an, and Torah with the words "B.S." on the covers. Civilization would have been a much better place had organized religion never existed.

I'd give them pictures of the horrible and gruesome things that would happen in their future (Our present time) if they don't get their s# straight and start living in peace and harmony.

By the way, what are some things that happened 3000 years ago? Rise of Mesopotamia?

After reading all the pages so far, and seeing the hatred for God manifested by so many posters.... I would say to give 3,000 year old people a good digital camcorder and let them video the parting of the Red Sea.

Well, maybe not. Not even all those who were there 'believed' it...

so no way the people here would believe it. I guess when you start with an anti-God agenda, then idiotic things like amoeba's suddenly sprouting legs and walking makes sense.

I guess they will all have to wait and see for themselves. And they (we all) will.

I'd like to give them a Mountain Bike and 60 minutes
of instruction on how to use it and what it's parts are used for!

From there they could build single and multiperson
transportation devices, and even 2000 to 2500 years ago
the Greeks and Romans HAD the technology to emulate
the functionality of modern Mountain bike in bronze and
Damascus-like steel which is a more ancient invention
that many realize.

That simple device would have caused a giant leap in
transportation which would have cause a technological
cascade because of transportation speed increases.

I suspect we would be 500 years later than we are today...which
means for us we would riding around in flying cars and FTL
spaceships!

Too bad -- if only we could change history!
