Unfortunately Social Darwinism still has a lot of adherents here, who think the poor should just drop dead.

They'll let themselves be taxed to hell as long as the money's going to bomb brown people halfway around the world, but try to pull people out of the gutter and it's "communism"

Canada is far less impaired by a "vocal moron" talk radio contingent.

This is what disturbs me about the government taking over health care in the U.S.: First of all, the U.S. is deeply in debt, unlike the situation Canada was in when they switched to government provided health care. With no spread to a larger population of government funded health care, there would still be some hope of U.S. Medicare (starts at 65) covering the medical needs of the baby boomers. We provided good care for our elders by funding Medicare throughout our working years. Now, as we begin to need more health care due to the aging process, the rules of the game are changing. By increasing the scope of government provided health care, while the tax base decreases and the debt load increases, there is little hope that we will get much care in our old age from the system which we funded for the generation before us.

Unfortunately, the proponents of the study in the OP have obviously never used Canadian health care to any great extent.

Having seen family members be misdiagnosed, crippled for life, and in my own case nearly die of Pneumonia thanks to the ineptitude and uncaring nature of the Canadian health care system, I can say wholeheartedly that it is flawed at its very core.

There is a reason that Canadians are pushing the government to legalize private health care in this country, and it is not because everything is perfectly fine with the socialized model believe you me.

Which Canadians? I see hundreds of them every single day and sure, some of them complain about healthcare. Keep in mind that these people are old people who have way to many health problems to take perfect care of and nothing but time to complain. Besides, they can complain all they want, none of them would ever want to switch to a system that they could never afford.

The entire point of the Canadian healthcare system is so Canadians can live out their lives without worrying about their health because the system is more than capable of taking care of them if they run into trouble. Obviously the system is not perfect, but it is the closest thing to it. Really, if some Canadian wants private healthcare than I'm sure they can stop whining and check out a private clinic; it's not like they don't exist here.

The Canadian health care is a good system it works and yes it has its flaws just like anything else. I'm a Canadian living in the crap province of Quebec. The problem here is its hard to get a family doctor but there's a reason for that they all left the province because of the language laws, Anyway that's another story but yes the system works. I don't think the US would be able to do the something or even come close to our system to many people and way to many illegals I also think its a scam that there trying to pull on you guys. They don't event think of the children its all about money.
I have dual dual citizenship loved to live in the states but these are things that keep me away to bad its a nice place.

I worked breifly as a file clerk at a drop-in medicentre in my city. Basically, it operated for things like colds, minor breaks, minor x-rays and what-not to keep ER's from overcrowding. Every day, sure it may have been full in there, and with 2 or 3 doctors at most at a time, no one really ever waits more than an hour.
Didn't a lady spend 24 hours in an ER in the states before collapsing and dying? I've never spent more than 5, AT THE MOST hours in an ER here.

While I've never needed to see a specialist, it's obviously going to take a while. We simply don't have enough doctors or nurses.

I'm not saying our system will work for those in the US, but elements of it just might. We do have private clinics here, for those who want to and can afford them. For everyone else, there is a system in place. Those "everyone else" in the states are getting left behind, because the entire system works for money, not for care.

Well, I wouldn't have illegals, they could apply for citizenship and pay their taxes, and that would pay for their medical system, all would covered. The statistics are that it actually costs the US gov't more money per person to have an unfair system of usary and middle men.
