I'm sorry that I don't have time to read the entire thread, but I wanted to say how grateful I am to the OP for posting this highly personal story. I'm in the US and I sincerely hope you're able to get through to people because the lies and the fearmongering flying around right now are going to ruin any chance we have of real reform, which is DESPERATELY needed.

Thank you again.

Whatever happened to working hard, earning money, and taking care of one's self? I know Europeans feel the wealthy and the government should provide for everything, but that is the system most Americans simply don't want to live under. Most of us would rather earn for ourselves, and let the government provide for what we can not pay for- such as a private army, or intelligence agencies to prevent attacks.

Whatever happened to working a full time job and being able to afford the basic necessities of life? I work two full time jobs and still can't afford health care.

As the OP said, health care should not be restricted to only those with money.

Perhaps you should get a job at Walmart. Their full-time employees have access to affordable health insurance.

Perhaps the prices shouldn't be so absurd as to not able to have it working ANY full time job.

Take a look at this link, the UK spends less per person and gets better results. Higher life expectancy, lower infant mortality. Will you still refuse to see the truth? Don't you see that our system does work better despite being socialised?

news.bbc.co.uk...

You say you think that everyone should suuport themselves, despite the fact that some people, working full time cannot afford health insurance. You are happy to pay more money even though you get worse results. I'm trying to se4e the logic there. You could be paying out less of your hard earned money and receiving better healthcare!

Two things (at least) that people who are against a public option fail to see, in my opinion are:

1. All they are doing is protecting the truly obscene profits of the medical insurance mafia.

and

2. Hurting themselves, because soon they'll all be joining the ranks of the already 50 million uninsured.

I'll be anxiously waiting to see how this whole health care debate shakes out for you all. From Canada.
