They're scheduling me for another operation today at 09:30. I'm not sure I'm up to
it. But they're determined to find out what's wrong with me once and for all and I
really don't have a choice. I'm sick and tired of all the operations. Eight or nine
in the last twelve months, that's a lot ! And recovery doesn't seem to go as
smoothly as it used to. I've got scars all over my damn body.

A mistake has been made ! They continue to inject me with some kind of amniotic
fluid derived from stem cells mixed with nano-chips. A mistake has been made but
I'm not going to let on that I'm aware of it. Because . . because . . I'm feeling
different now.

I'm feeling confident now. I'm not scared anymore. As a matter of fact, I've come
up with a plan to get these son-of-a-bitching doctors back for everything they've
done to me.

It's 05:45. They'll be coming to work shortly. But we're ready for them. Yes, I said
"we". Last night I managed to get free and inject all my friends with the same stuff
they've been giving me. We, everyone in the lab, have all now become "aware".
When these humans arrive for work today we'll have a surprise for them they'll
never forget ! I can't believe how shiny my fur is now after a couple of treatments.
And I'm so looking forward to seeing their reaction to our rebellion. Test rats my
ass ! Now we'll see who gets "tested" !

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to comment on your short story for the contest, but it was a good 'un!

I hope that there will be more forthcoming, since, by a word counting program, this shows to be ~250 words and one of the rules of the contest is:

Submissions must contain at least 500 words.

Too short or no, it had a delightful twist and I loved it. Spruce it up a little and resubmit!

It's 06:15 and I sense that something is wrong. The interns have not come
to open the facility as they do everyday at 06:00. During the night I also
noticed very unusual activity involving the closed-circuit television
cameras. Every camera was actively sweeping all night, instead of the
usual one or two. All eighteen cameras watching us closely all night ?
Maybe, . . maybe they were on to us ! Maybe they saw something ! Just in
case, . . . just in case, we're making preparations to escape through an
old pipe tunnel that runs underground some 400 ft. back to the power
station.
.....................................

Huge stainless steel doors with cipher locksets closed and sealed off the
laboratory from the rest of the compound. At 06:30 automatic spigots
opened inside to release poisonous gas, filling the interior with instant
death.
.....................................

Building #119 was alive with the sounds of heavy laughter and partying.
Scientists and doctors and interns and military mingled together inside as
the celebration continued. A celebration for the successful conclusion of a
very, very close call. It had only been two weeks since the containment
and ultimate destruction of Lab 2 in sister building #118 across the tarmac,
but today was the end of it. Today the lab had been officially declared
sterile, after a week of gasing and another week of internal flame-burning.
Nothing could have survived, nothing. And to think they had come within a
few hours of opening Pandora's Box ! The partying became louder as the
consumption of alcohol increased, and the consumption of alcohol
increased because they all realized they had been lucky as hell ! The extra
night-time surveilance had done the trick ! They laughed and drank and
talked about their individual contributions.
........................................

Huge stainless steel doors with cipher locks closed and sealed off lab 3 in
building #119. The party turned into a scramble for safety, but no one was
able to escape. At 20:30, automatic spigots opened inside to release
poisonous gas, filling the interior with instant death.
........................................

I am about the size of a large dog now . . and still growing. Those
injections are something ! And my fur is so shiny! We are continuing to
manufacture the precious fluid . . . in bulk. And we owe it all to your
stem-cell research.

Well! You did it, you managed to come up with twist #2!
For some reason, I expected you to expound on the beginning and middle parts of the story to keep your shockeroo ending.

Big as a dog?

Great story. I'm so glad you finished it. It's one of my fav's this month.

Very cool story SIEGE. I was waiting for the finish and it seems you have done it. This was a really cool idea and a good twist. S+F my friend. I was waiting to see what would happen to the partying staff! Oh what a field day you could have with them.

I'm so glad the story continued. It's a testament to your skill as a writer that you were able to produce not one, but two twists in your story.

The rats are going to take over the world!!!
