There is also this thread about a strike in Somalia. Don't know if they are related, but maybe some info was recovered from that strike that initiated the search in NYC?
Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., who was briefed by FBI officials, said he couldn't discuss much of the case because many of the details were still classified.
"There was nothing imminent, and they are very good now at tracking potentially dangerous actions and this was preventive," Schumer said.
He added that the law enforcement action was unrelated to President Barack Obama's visit Monday to New York. ___

For what it is worth... just a bit more info. The address to Congress has everyone baffled.
Separately, federal authorities started briefing a series of senior lawmakers in Congress about the case.

The suspected terrorist, described as an ethnic Afghani resident of the Midwest in his 20s — who may have previously lived in Queens — had driven to New York City in recent days and visited multiple apartments in Queens over the weekend, sources said.
Afterwards he returned to the Midwest under surveillance, sources said, and is being monitored as part of an ongoing terrorism investigation being conducted by the U.S. Attorneys Office in Brooklyn.
The Joint Terrorism Task Force executed search warrants on several homes that he visited, including at least one at Parsons Boulevard and 41st Avenue, sources said.
The unidentified man, who sources believe recently traveled to Afghanistan, left New York City yesterday.
