The Rwanda government is setting up an independent commission to assemble evidence of France involvement in the 1990-1994 Rwanda genocide. France has agreed to review the events with Rwanda, leading to the genocide.

Rwanda inquiry into French role
Rwanda has regularly accused the French of aiding and abetting the Hutu extremists who killed 800,000 people.

Paris denies responsibility - although it has admitted supporting Rwanda's former Hutu-led government.

The current Rwandan government, which took over after the genocide, argues that Paris knowingly armed the killers and provided an escape route after their defeat.

French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier has stated after an interview with his Rwanda counterpart Charles Murigande, that they have will be trying ways to improve and normalize relations with Rwanda and will work together on "genocide remembrance" according to the article.

I'm a little confused. France is cooperating with China just as the US has, to a lesser degree, by making port calls. Participation in joint military maneuvres (sp?) is a small diplomatic gesture of peace amongst nations. It serves to make the region more stable. Further, it makes great economic sense for France, given the trading ties between China and France (particularily military trade).

Where exactly does Taiwan fit into any of this (let alone Rwanda)? First, France isn't telling China it will support it in a war against Taiwan, and China isn't assuming so. Second, US ties with China are far far greater economically, and that's what counts militarily in the end (it takes money to build guns, tanks, and planes).

France (along with many other US allies such as Italy and the UK) are against any pushing of independence by Taiwan because China is a big power in the region and it makes sense not to rock the boat.

So it is a gesture of peace for France, or any other country, to help out militarily in a manuver that is known to have been a show of force to scare Taiwan?.....

The US is not cooperating with China against Taiwan in any way...I don't know what makes you think this. The Chinese have warned the US to stop giving military aid to Taiwan, but we are obliged to help Taiwan since it is an ally, and I wouldn't call France an ally of the US, not anymore.

As for your question about what does this have to do with Rwanda, (or Sudan) the whole post was/is to show what France's involvement has been on genocide and other shady dealings, such as siding with China knowing that China was making a show of force towards Taiwan, and leading to France stance against the war in Iraq.
